Chapter 386: Detention_1

Chapter 386: Chapter 386: Detention_1

After all, Su Tao had already left Yan City. If this old woman was truly Ms. Su’s grandmother, how could she not know?

"Madam, Ms. Su left Yan City a long time ago. As her grandmother, how could you not know?" Someone in the crowd, who was growing tired of the spectacle, intervened. Everyone else turned their gaze on old Ms. Su, waiting to see her reaction.

The old lady’s face turned pale, clearly caught off guard.

Several people had reportedly said that Su Tao was living a good life in Yan City; how could she possibly leave?

"Impossible! You’re trying to deceive this old woman! Call her out! I, an old woman, came here to deal with that vixen for her! How could my granddaughter abandon me here?"

When old Ms. Su wanted to confront Nanzhi, she felt reassured knowing her granddaughter had the support of the city lord. As long as the city lord was there, no one would dare to bother her. Besides, calling Su Tao would mean even she, at her old age, would be safe.

Yet, now things had escalated, and both her "grandson-in-law" and granddaughter were nowhere to be found.

"Madam, Ms. Su left long ago. Making a fuss won’t help!"

A man, who couldn’t bear the senseless commotion, simply stormed off.

Everyone thought it would be an interesting spectacle, but all they got was an unruly old madwoman!

"Impossible, it’s impossible," Ms. Su mumbled, a savage look flashing across her aged face.

"Call the city lord! It must be that heartless scoundrel who drove my granddaughter away! It’s the vixen! It’s her, behaving unchastely, seducing my grandson-in-law--"

Before she could continue ranting, Lin’s mother, who had hurried over after hearing the commotion, slapped her across the face.

The slap was so sudden and forceful that the old woman staggered, almost falling to the ground if not for the guards beside her.

"You old hag, spewing nonsense! How dare you bully my daughter!"

Lin’s mother’s eyes stared fiercely, appearing somewhat intimidating.

No one was allowed to bully her daughter, let alone this old troublemaker!

At home, old Ms. Su was always attended to by her daughter-in-law. On her way here, she was also being taken care of. Being slapped so suddenly, she was completely confused.

"You, you dare to hit me? My grandson-in-law, the city lord of Yan City, won’t let you get away with this!"

She pointed trembling fingers, her face filled with shock and bewilderment.

This situation was much different from what the kids had described.

They clearly stated that after she arrived here, no one could bully her!

"Wenchen, come here," Lin’s mother said after taking a few deep breaths, signaling Shen Wenchen to come closer.

Shen Wenchen nodded and walked up to old Ms. Su.

"Open your eyes and look properly. He is the city lord of Yan City. Your granddaughter Su Tao has nothing to do with him. Stop making a scene here!"

Lin’s mother appeared distressed.

She was feeling happy just now knowing their new shop was almost finished. But then she heard passersby calling her daughter a vixen.

Annoyed, she inquired and found out that an old lady had caused a commotion at the restaurant, so she hurried over.

Upon reaching the entrance, she heard the old woman’s expletive-filled tirade.

Old Ms. Su stopped struggling as she looked at Shen Wenchen without uttering a word.

This man, he is the city lord?

Upon recalling his rush to the young floozy when he first entered, hatred for her only grew stronger in old Ms. Su’s heart.

"Tsk, a family of amorous demons! Grandson-in-law, you have to keep your eyes open and don’t be deceived by them!"

Shen Wenchen glanced at her and motioned to the guards to take her back to the county government office.

As old Ms. Su was dragged away, the crowd lingering around didn’t dare to say much more.

"Since it’s happened, I might as well make an announcement. Everyone might already know that I am to be married next month."

Although Shen Wenchen’s voice was not loud, it clearly reached everyone’s ears.

"I know everyone is wondering who the bride will be. Today, I will clarify that the woman I, Shen Wenchen am engaged to is the manager of San Wei Residence, Lin Nanzhi.

I’m aware that some of you bear grievances against me, and that rumours about us circulate in the marketplace. But I hope everyone understands that the past occurrences in Yan City won’t happen again. As long as I, Shen Wenchen, reside in Yan City, I won’t let the people fall into the predicament they once faced."

After Shen Wenchen finished his speech, the crowed around him cheered in agreement.

While Yan City was always prosperous, the wealth invariably ended up in the pockets of the rich. However, in these past two years, even though there hasn’t been any significant change on the surface, their lives had become somewhat more comfortable.

Some people, however, turned their attention to Nanzhi.

They couldn’t figure out how the Lins wound up connected with the city lord.

And as for the widely-discussed affair between the city lord and Ms. Su, could it all be false?

Old Ms. Su was taken back to the county government office. The moment she entered its gate, weakness overcame her and she collapsed onto the ground.

Everything should have been a dream.

They had indeed said that her granddaughter was the one to marry the city lord. But how, how could she have run away?

Liu Jie sighed at the sight of her terrified disposition.

He still couldn’t figure out who had brought in this old woman.

While he did believe she was Su Tao’s grandmother.

If it were a lie, by now, she should have admitted it and begged for mercy. It was clear someone with ulterior motives had used her, leading to her causing trouble at Madam’s place.

Inside San Wei Residence, the space was wrecked, many of the tables and chairs had been broken, even though the staff had tried to protect them.

Nanzhi didn’t deny her heartache, as it would cost quite a few dozens of taels of silver to couple everything back.

"Fatty, are you alright?" After the guests had left, Lin’s mother gingerly held Nanzhi’s hand, deeply concerned.

She was always worried her daughter would be wronged.

"Mother, I’m fine," Nanzhi said, her heart warmed. The previous distress had completely dissipated.

If it could be mended with money, it isn’t a big deal.

"Which malicious person caused such a commotion," Lin’s mother complained while fussing over Nanzhi’s ears.

She was trying to prevent her daughter’s spirit from drifting away due to the fright.

Seeing her mother treating her like a child, Nanzhi couldn’t help but let out a chuckle.

Meanwhile, Liao Da and Aze began cleaning up the mess.

"An Wazi, where’s Miaomiao?" After pouring a cup of tea for Lin’s mother, she finally asked.

"Master Shen Dong left in the afternoon. He said he was going to Dawan Village to get the wine," An Wazi scratched his head and responded honestly.

"Why did they let her fetch the wine?" Nanzhi found it strange; usually, Wang Sheng and Lin Xiaoquan were the ones to do it.

"Boss, Shen Dong and that gentleman had a fight," An Wazi leaned closer to Nanzhi and Lin’s mother and whispered just after they did.

They’d been quarreling for a few days already!

"They had a fight?" Both Nanzhi and Lin’s mother exchanged glances, a bit surprised.
