Becoming the Villain's Discarded Wife -
Chapter 348
Chapter 348: 348
After dealing with the coachman, Shen Wenchen didn’t tend to his own wounds which were still spilling blood. Instead, he got in the horse carriage.
The carriage appeared ordinary but Shen Wenchen, after feeling the framework of the carriage, started to grow suspicious.
When he spotted two small jade pieces embedded on both sides of the carriage, his eyes grew darker.
It seemed the people on this carriage might have some significant background.
Upon lifting the curtain, seeing Liao Er inside gave Shen Wenchen room for pause. This was a man he knew as a common foot soldier.
But he usually mingled among gamblers, how did he cross paths with Shen Miaomiao?
Unable to fathom the circumstances, Shen Wenchen decided not to let him go, merely testing the man’s breathing before proceeding.
Liao Er only felt a dull ache in his head and was too weak to muster any energy.
Feeling the presence of a stranger nearby, he broke out in a cold sweat. Absent of the strength to even open his eyes, he could only accept his fate like prey ready for the kill.
His usual hangouts were blood-soaked places where he had grown all too familiar with the intent to kill.
Sensing he was no match for the stranger, all Liao Er could do was play dead.
Upon observing the setup inside the carriage, Shen Wenchen’s gaze finally landed on a window to one side.
This carriage had large windows positioned slightly lower. This struck him as odd.
As twelve tended to the wound on Miaomiao’s forehead, seeing her tearful face filled him with regret.
If he had returned earlier, perhaps Miaomiao might not have been injured.
"Twelve, my arm hurts——"
Miaomiao was a girl who had seen hardship. Although the wound on her temple looked terrible, it was not serious. The numerous bloodstains on her body were from minor wounds.
But her arm was broken and it ached terribly!
"Let me see." The young man was somewhat panicked, but after inspecting her injury, he breathed a sigh of relief.
The injury wasn’t severe. Her arm was only dislocated.
"Bear with it for a while. Your arm is just dislocated. I will fix it for you, but it may hurt a bit." Twelve softly coaxed the woman in his arms, his eyes filled with sympathy.
"Okay." Miaomiao nodded, then took the initiative to bite on her own sleeve, allowing her dislocated arm to hang loosely at her side, making it easier for Twelve to tend to it.
Seeing the young girl’s actions, Twelve felt a mix of amusement and distress.
This was his beloved—always adorably clever.
Twelve’s gaze was blazing, making Miaomiao blush. Seeing that he still wasn’t setting her arm, she started to get annoyed.
Was this fool trying to make her pain worse?
When Shen Wenchen came down from the carriage and saw the two youngsters still sitting on the ground, he was somewhat speechless.
Had Twelve rushed out so hurriedly without a plan?
The girl from the Shen family’s arm was in a terrible state. Instead of setting it back in place, the two were exchanging tender glances?
Shen Wenchen felt a pang of envy. He was reminded of his own beloveds, Nannan and Zhiyu.
Although Kyoto was flourishing and many people admired him, having lived two lifetimes, he just wanted to spend his days in peace with his family.
What good was territory and gold if not shared with those one cherished?
"Young man, hurry up and get serious!"
Seeing Miaomiao’s tears flowing freely from the pain, Shen Wenchen could not bear it anymore.
Delay it further and she would pass out from the pain!
"Oh, oh, oh." Realizing his mistake, Twelve felt awkward. His face flushed, he didn’t dare to defend himself and quickly set Miaomiao’s arm back in place.
Feeling that her arm was moving again, Miaomiao released her sleeve from her mouth. Teeth marks lined the fabric. The young girl felt somewhat embarrassed and quickly hid her arm.
"How...how did you come back?"
The young girl had managed to stop crying. There were still remnants of blood on her face but Twelve’s heart lifted just by seeing her.
"Miaomiao, how did you...escape?" Shen Wenchen asked delicately. He had seen her jump from the carriage, but the man in the carriage was a seasoned fighter. How had she managed to subdue him?
"I...I had some anesthesia on me. I took the opportunity and...the...anesthesia...helped me...overpower Liao Er." The young girl bit her lip.
When she had woken up to find herself being held by Liao Er, she had felt disgust. But Sister Nanzhi had told her that if she ever fell into danger, she must first calm down.
Even the most difficult of situations could turn around.
Little did she expect that playing the fool would indeed save her life.
"Anesthesia?" Shen Wenchen was slightly surprised. He had never expected the young girl to carry such a thing around.
However, when the word "anesthesia" reached Twelve’s ears, it incensed him.
Initially stationed in Yan City, he knew all too well how many scoundrels roamed there. Upon his transfer back to Kyoto, Brother Shen did a commendable job keeping things in check. But why did Miaomiao carry anesthesia with her?
Thinking that his beloved might have endured some hardship, Twelve was consumed with regret and felt unbearable anguish.
In the silence, Shen Wenchen heard hooves approaching. He was instantly on alert.
"Twelve, get Miaomiao on the carriage." Shen Wenchen commanded in a stern voice, pulling out the sword he always carried with him, and scanned the vicinity.
"Okay." Twelve didn’t hesitate. He lifted Miaomiao horizontally and quickly boarded the carriage.
"Miaomiao, sit here. I’m going out to check with Brother Shen." The young man caressed the girl’s cheek and spoke in a soothing tone.
"Okay, you guys be careful." Miaomiao said. While she was scared, she didn’t want to be a burden either.
Before leaving the carriage, Twelve looked at Liao Er on the ground with distaste, dragging him to the carriage shaft before acknowledging the job was done.
Shen Wenchen and Twelve watched warily, positioning themselves carefully to use the carriage as barrier.
Nanzhi had gone to great lengths to figure out which direction the carriage went. Leading the way as Lin Yicheng followed, she made her way horseback.
As for Liu Jie, he had remained behind.
She could not forget about Miaomiao and insisted on leading the way, while Aze followed closely behind her.
Another person meant more help; especially since Aze seemed to be a more skilled horseman, she figured he must be capable in other areas as well.
As they approached, they saw a carriage stopped up ahead. There were some figures around it as well.
"Plump girl, slow down. My second brother and I will go first." Lin Yicheng waved his hand and went forth with Lin Ercheng.
Nanzhi responded with a hum, her hand tightly gripping the reins.
Aze clenched the bow he had borrowed from Liu Jie, his other hand holding an arrow steadily.
Even if it meant facing his painful past, he wished her no harm.
The stern expression Shen Wenchen wore slackened as soon as he saw who approached. His face lit up with joy.
Nannan!
