Becoming the Villain's Discarded Wife -
Chapter 340
Chapter 340: 340
"Mr. Liao, Mr. Liao, I’ve truly found a solution, I beg you, spare me this time!" Shen Zhong knelt at Liao-Er’s feet, breaking into a cold sweat as he awaited a response.
Sweat dripped off his nose and Shen Zhong felt he was running out of breath.
"Then tell me, what solution have you come up with?" Liao-Er raised an eyebrow and asked.
Hearing this, Shen Zhong let out a sigh of relief and then slowly began, "Mr. Liao, I’ve located my family. I’m the only son and they’ll, they’ll definitely come up with the silver to save me!"
Liao-Er unsheathed the dagger he always carried with him and started toying with it, his henchmen understood his intent.
Two burly men stepped forward, surrounding Shen Zhong.
Just as their fists were about to fall onto him, Shen Zhong hastily knelt forward, hugging Liao-Er’s boots.
"Mr. Liao, I understand, I understand. I won’t hold back the interest." Shen Zhong laughed nervously, his face smeared with blood and mud. His simple and honest face was now resembling a bug on the ground.
"Hm?" Liao-Er made a sound that startled Shen Zhong and made him shiver.
"My wife, my wife!" Shen Zhong suddenly became excited, as if grasping a lifeline, he got up on his knees.
"You’ve seen her, Mr. Liao, my wife is beautiful. If you grant me one more chance, I’ll send her to you, I’ll send her to you!"
Liao-Er seemed to have anticipated his words, he chuckled and gently tapped Shen Zhong’s face with the dagger.
"Your wife? I fear she has been toyed with by others. Are you trying to appease me with such merchandise?"
The hot sun was making Shen Zhong sweat profusely. The cold sharpness of the blade kept hitting his face and he felt a tightening in his throat, struggling to speak.
"Didn’t you mention you also have a younger sister?"
The words ’younger sister’ floated off Liao-Er’s lips, making Shen Zhong’s head spin.
He had already inquired that his parents couldn’t pull together a few taels of silver, but wasn’t his younger sister, Shen Miaomiao, the owner of a restaurant, bringing home hundreds of taels every month?
If Miaomiao was gone, where would he get the silver?
"Mr. Liao, Mr. Liao, it’s not that I’m unwilling, but my sister is already engaged."
Finally, Shen Zhong had to put his cards on the table.
He had indeed considered selling his sister, but that could at least bring some dowry. If Liao-Er took Miaomiao away, he’d be left with nothing.
"Engaged?" Liao-Er wiped the blood stains from his dagger on Shen Zhong’s coat, there was a hint of amusement in his voice.
"Then I’ll just have to cut off one of your fingers."
Shen Zhong’s heart trembled and his lips began to quiver.
"Mr. Liao, Mr. Liao, I can truly come up with the silver, I beg you, spare me this once!"
Seeing too many gamblers like this, Liao-Er didn’t react, he just let his two henchmen hold down Shen Zhong while he stepped on Shen Zhong’s left hand.
Seeing the dagger break through his skin, Shen Zhong could only cry out for mercy, "Mr Liao, Mr Liao, I’m sorry. My sister is the owner of Sān Wèi Jū. She has silver! She has silver! Tomorrow, I will repay the silver!"
Liao-Er paused and looked at his two henchmen.
One of them whispered something into his ear, after which Liao-Er put away his knife.
"Tomorrow afternoon then, our usual spot. If you don’t come, your wife can collect your corpse."
"Thank you, Mr. Liao, thank you, Mr. Liao."
The weight on top of him was gone, and Shen Zhong could finally catch his breath.
Before he even had time to recover, he heard Liao-Er’s voice lingering in his ears.
"Tomorrow I want to see a hundred and twenty taels of silver, and your sister."
Liao-Er walked away with his men, only Shen Zhong was left in the yard, sweating cold sweat.
The ordeal hadn’t lasted more than a few minutes, but his clothes were drenched with sweat.
"Damn, what bad luck." Shen Zhong muttered to himself as he clumsily got off the ground.
Smelling the rancid odor from his body, Shen Zhong grit his teeth, and no longer had the heart to look for Li Lian, he just limped towards the backyard, trying to salvage his shattered dignity.
When Aunt Guihua returned, she found the gate wide open, with the bolt broken in two pieces on the ground.
Aunt Guihua paused her step, quickly put down the basket of vegetables beside her, and cautiously entered the house holding a stick.
Could it be, could it be that a thief broke in?
Her heart raced, till she saw the axe slashed marks on the door of Li Lian’s room, Aunt Guihua’s heart leaped into her throat.
Upon entering, she found Li Lian unconscious on the floor.
Li Lian’s face was pale, her right hand clenched a piece of broken tile, her left wrist was bloody. The split flesh continued to ooze blood, frightening Aunt Guihua so much that the stick fell from her hand.
"Li Lian, Li Lian!"
Rushing to support Li Lian, Aunt Guihua, who found no response even after pressing on her pressure point, was flustered.
She quickly wrapped a piece of fabric around her wound, and then carried her out the door hastily.
She didn’t like Li Lian, but she had been her daughter-in-law for several years, and it was her son who had wronged her these past years.
With a feeling of guilt and fear, Aunt Guihua managed to carry her to Jihe Hall just by sheer willpower.
"Jingzhi, Jingzhi!"
Aunt Guihua ran all the way, her face beaded with sweat. Wang Jingzhi, who was cleaning, quickly came over to help when he saw her distressed look.
Feeling the weight in his arms, Wang Jingzhi was somewhat surprised, but he placed her down on a smaller bed.
"Aunt Guihua, what happened to you?"
After catching her breath, Aunt Guihua pointed to Li Lian, "She, she cut her hand, she’s lost a lot of blood!"
Looking at her now, Li Lian’s hand was enveloped in a dark brown cloth, evidently soaked with blood.
This was the first time Aunt Guihua had seen someone in her family attempting suicide in all her years.
Every time she thought of Li Lian being forced to such a state by her own son, Aunt Guihua’s heart ached.
"Aunt Guihua, you rest for a while, let me take a look at her." Wang Jingzhi knew Li Lian, although not very well, he had seen her in the village.
Though she was a bit sharp-tongued while fleeing disaster, to see her now pale as a sheet and lying before him as if she were dead, Wang Jingzhi felt somewhat dumbfounded.
