Becoming the Villain's Discarded Wife -
Chapter 29 Messenger_1
Chapter 29: Chapter 29 Messenger_1
After listening to Ms. Wu’s words, Nanzhi did not feel at all relaxed, her heart instead took on a few more beats. Would the events that occurred in her dream happen tonight?
Nanzhi felt as though she was carrying a weight that was insurmountably heavy.
She couldn’t gamble, couldn’t call upon the hundreds of people in Lihua Village based on a single dream, forcing them to stay awake outside their homes all night. But she was also afraid, what if everything in the dream was real? Without taking any precautions, she would miss the opportunity to save everyone’s lives.
"Mom, don’t enter the house, run," said a voice.
While Nanzhi was still wrestling with her conscience, Gougou had stopped crying. He raised his little head and spoke with a tearful voice.
Nanzhi lowered her head to look at Gougou who was nestled in her arms. She was stunned for a moment, then nodded affirmatively, "Okay, let’s call everyone out, not entering the house."
With Gougou’s words, Nanzhi finally made up her mind. Gougou is their good luck charm, since he spoke, it must be real.
If it turns out that this all turned out to be nothing, she would simply admit that she had lost her mind.
With a plan in mind, Nanzhi simply instructed Liu’s family to hurry up and notify the villagers, urging everyone to not sleep in the house tonight, and preferably stay awake on the mound at the entrance of the village.
She handed Gougou over to Mrs. Liu, untied the cart behind the donkey, and rode the donkey to Shen Dashan’s house herself.
She had to inform Li Zheng about this matter and leave him to handle it while she returned to her parent’s house to inform them.
Li Zheng’s family had just finished dinner. As everyone was about to enter their rooms, they were all called back by a knock on the door.
The knocking on the door seemed as if someone wanted to smash in the door and rush in.
Ms. Zhou was somewhat puzzled, who could be visiting their home so late? Could it be that Li family had another trouble?
Though puzzled, she still opened the door only to be surprised when she saw Nanzhi: "Nanzhi, what is it? Anything the matter?"
"Sister Zhou, is Uncle Li Zheng here? I have an emergency." Nanzhi looked at Ms. Zhou anxiously.
Though curious about Nanzhi’s visit, Ms. Zhou was thoughtful and stepped aside to point, "Father-in-law is in the main room."
"Thank you, Sister Zhou." Nanzhi said, hastily rushing towards the main room, shouting as she ran, "Uncle Li Zheng, Uncle Li Zheng."
"Miss Lin, what’s the matter?" Shen Dashan had just heard the commotion outside, coming out of the main room to see Nanzhi in a state of haste.
"Uncle Li Zheng, it’s urgent. Quickly, gather all the villagers on the embankment at the entrance of the village. Everyone must stay awake tonight, no sleeping." She pleaded.
Shen Dashan was baffled by Nanzhi’s words, what was she suggesting they do on the embankment in the middle of the night? Were they supposed to stargaze together?
After thinking for a moment, he still couldn’t make sense of it and could only ask, "What exactly is going on here?"
"Uncle Li Zheng, trust me, this is serious. Make sure everyone does not stay inside tonight." Nanzhi who had spent her journey shouting and on a bumpy donkey ride felt her voice was hoarse, "Tonight, an earthquake might occur, it’s not safe to stay indoors."
Hearing the term ’earthquake’, Shen Dashan and his family were stunned.
Especially the older members of the family, such as Mrs. Qin and Shen Dashan.
The last earthquake that happened in Lihua Village was over twenty years ago. There had been no episodes since then, and the younger villagers had only heard of it. But how did Nanzhi know that there would be an earthquake tonight?
"Girl, what’s this ...." Mrs. Qin looked at Nanzhi and hurried over with a bowl of water.
After drinking the water, Nanzhi felt alive again. Knowing there was no more time to explain, she only looked at Shen Dashan: "Uncle Li Zheng, trust me, nobody can stay inside tonight."
Watching Nanzhi pleas, Shen Dashan intuitively felt she might be telling the truth, it’s better to be safe than sorry. He nodded and said, "Alright, Uncle Li Zheng trusts you."
After getting Shen Dashan’s acknowledgment, Nanzhi hastily got back onto her little donkey and set off for Stone Village.
Without the wooden cart behind, the little donkey ran even faster. Riding on the back of the saddle-less donkey, Nanzhi clung tightly to its neck, her legs clenching its belly.
Fortunately, Aunt Liu’s mule was gentle tempered, allowing Nanzhi to rein it as she wished without any objections. It ran swiftly, indifferent to Nanzhi tugging at its neck to control its direction.
Once she reached Stone Village, Nanzhi felt like collapsing on the ground and retching.
Fearful of wasting time, she held her breath and directed the mule towards the Lin Family’s residence.
"Mother, open the-- Ugh--"
When Mrs. Lin opened the door, she saw her daughter hunched over, retching by the door, and a particularly excited mule trailing her.
"What’s happened, Nanzhi?" Lin Yicheng saw his younger sister clinging to the wall, retching beside their mother.
Nanzhi waved her hand, and just as she was about to stand upright, she felt a surge of nausea and had to remain bent over: "I...ugh --"
The best luck in this unfortunate situation was that she had slept all day and barely eaten anything. Thus, after retching, she only vomited bile.
Seeing the state of her sister-in-law, Chen Qiulan quickly fetched a bowl of water and handed it to her.
Nanzhi took the water and rinsed her mouth, then hastily said before even catching her breath: "Mother, brother, sister-in-law, don’t stay inside the house tonight, there might be an earthquake."
Taken aback by her daughter’s sudden claim, Mrs. Lin asked, "What’s going on, Nanzhi? How do you know there will be an earthquake tonight?"
An earthquake was a catastrophic event. The last one occurred late at night, crushing many people to death in their sleep.
She herself was newlywed at the time, and her husband carried her out of the house, thus narrowly dodging calamity.
However, one of Mr. Lin’s three brothers had been crushed to death within their house for not being able to get out in time.
Apart from their house, over half of Stone Village was destroyed, more than twenty people died, and dozens sustained serious injuries.
Thinking of the catastrophe caused by the last earthquake, Mrs. Lin’s face turned pale.
"How...where did you hear such news?" Lin Ercheng asked, looking at Nanzhi.
"I..." Just as Nanzhi started to say that she had dreamed it with Gougou, she bit her tongue. It was just a dream; where was the evidence?
Yet notably, other than telling the truth, Nanzhi had no other choice but to say: "I dreamed it."
Hearing Nanzhi’s explanation, Mrs. Lin’s face went even paler, and she quickly started giving orders.
"Hurry up, old man, go find Li Zheng and have him alert the villagers."
Upon hearing Nanzhi’s statement, Mr. Lin’s heart skipped a beat. Receiving his wife’s instructions, he hurriedly put on his shoes to leave, saying, "Understood, Dacheng, come with me."
"Yes."
Lin Dacheng quickly followed his father, both leaving for Li Zheng’s place in a hurry.
Nanzhi had been prepared for a scolding, but instead, she saw her father and brother quickly leaving.
Did they believe her?
Nanzhi was momentarily puzzled; she had thought they would rebuke her. Did her mother actually believe her dream?
"Nanzhi, did you have that kind of dream again?" Lin Ercheng asked Nanzhi.
Looking just as bewildered were Chen Qiulan and Sun Cui.
Seeing their father-in-law, mother-in-law, and husband in such a fluster, they couldn’t understand why their little sister-in-law’s dream about an earthquake would cause so much panic?
Could Nanzhi’s dreams really come true?
