Becoming the Villain's Discarded Wife -
Chapter 244
Chapter 244: Chapter 244
Nanzhi glanced at An Wazi and nodded, beckoning to him, "Little kiddo, come over."
"Eh, okay." An Wazi nodded and got up to walk over, quietly saying to the man as he passed him, "Uncle, I’m going over."
The man didn’t say anything, simply waved his hand impatiently.
These two girls seemed kind-hearted, so if they could buy An Wazi, it would be quite good.
"What’s your name, and how old are you this year?" Nanzhi asked An Wazi.
"I’m called An Wazi, and I’m thirteen years old this year." An Wazi looked somewhat uneasily at Nanzhi and Shen Miaomiao. He’d never seen such attractive people before and was afraid that if he misspoke, they would not buy him.
"What did you do before?"
"I, I used to farm and, and feed cows at home." An Wazi clung tightly to the hem of his clothes and blurted out everything he could do.
"Good, so would you like to come with us?" Nanzhi looked into An Wazi’s eyes intently.
An Wazi was looking at the people in front of him, too tense to say anything.
"If you come with us, you’ll have to learn things. Are you willing?"
An Wazi nodded his head vigorously, fearing he might miss this opportunity.
He was a child from a small village outside of Yan City. He lost his parents when he was young and only lived with his uncle’s family. But his aunt always disliked him for eating too much. Now, his cousin was getting married and needed some silver for the dowry, so they sold him.
Although there were a lot of people here, he could at least fill his stomach. His uncle told him that if he was bought and brought home, he should work diligently, not be lazy, or else he would be sold again.
"Alright, please wait outside." Nanzhi called him with a laugh, and Hu San quickly opened the door.
Uncle Ping was standing nearby, looking up at the sky and apparently lost in thought.
"Is there anyone else you are interested in?" Once An Wazi left the room, Nanzhi turned her head and asked Shen Miaomiao.
"That one, the one in the corner." The young girl frowned and scanned the room before pointing to a fair-faced young man inside.
Following her finger, Nanzhi was slightly taken aback.
The young man was quite good-looking, giving her a vague sense of familiarity.
Seeing himself being chosen, the young man was a bit surprised, but let out no words, only slowly getting up and taking a few steps towards the window.
The light shone on his face, and his previously unclear countenance suddenly became clear, Nanzhi was momentarily dazed. Somehow, he looked a bit like Shi’er.
But he seemed even fairer than Shi’er.
Shen Miaomiao also paused. Although the young man seemed familiar, she had chosen him mainly because he was the cleanest among the people in the room, not as slick as the others, yet not totally aloof either.
A waiter in the inn naturally needs to talk and act properly, but being too slick is not necessarily a good thing either.
"Miss, do you want to buy me?" The young man didn’t look at Nanzhi, instead gazing at Shen Miaomiao.
"What can you do?"
"I used to serve people in my former master’s house." The young man was not dull, but he lacked the cunning feel, instead gazing back at Shen Miaomiao as he answered.
The people behind him laughed when they heard him saying he had served people, causing Hu San to frown.
But the young man kept staring at Shen Miaomiao, not at all affected.
Though somewhat shy, Shen Miaomiao still tried to remain composed and asked, "Can you be a waiter?"
The young man seemed not to have considered that he would become a waiter after being sold. Hesitating for a moment, he nodded, "Yes."
The sight of the two made Nanzhi sigh inwardly, but she still indicated for the young man to come out.
"I’ll take these two as well, calculate the price for me." Nanzhi looked at Hu San and gave a slight smile.
Seeing the smile on her face, Hu San understood her meaning, with a sigh he said, "Well, well, I’ll give you a good price. For Uncle Ping, I’ll charge eighteen taels."
After saying these words, Hu San glanced at Nanzhi’s expression, and seeing nothing wrong, he continued, "For An Wazi, I’ll take five taels of silver, and for Aze, seven taels, for a total of thirty taels. Would that be okay?"
Having done the rough calculation and finding the prices reasonable, Nanzhi did not haggle, responding, "That’s thirty taels then."
Seeing they were about to leave, the people locked inside the room were unable to conceal their disappointment and retreated into their corners.
As soon as Hu San closed the door, he asked cheerfully, "So, we’ll have the chef and waiter meet us in the afternoon, okay?"
Looking at the sky, Nanzhi and Shen Miaomiao agreed, "We’ll meet in the afternoon then."
A dark figure in the room, who had been motionless, suddenly lifted his head at the mention of a chef, and yelled eagerly towards the window, "I can cook! I’m a chef! I’m a chef!"
But his words echoed without a response, and he looked even more hopeless, leaning his head sideways and shuffling back to his original position.
The man next to him looked at him with disgust and moved aside.
"In such shape, he hopes to be sold..."
"He even says he’s a chef! I wonder which inn would hire him..."
Some people sneered, he heard them clearly.
But Nanzhi did hear him.
Her departing steps paused, turning back to look contemplatively at the room where the voice had come from.
Seeing that she didn’t follow, Shen Miaomiao hurriedly came over, whispering, "Sister Nanzhi, are we buying another one?"
"Let’s go check."
Nanzhi led Shen Miaomiao back to the room they just left.
The man was curled up in a ball, and then a cold female voice rose.
"Who just said that he’s a chef?"
He abruptly raised his head, turning around incredulously.
"It’s me, I used to be a chef."
As he spoke, he struggled to stand up again, hesitating whether to walk over.
Even though the inside was dim, Nanzhi still clearly saw his figure.
Just that, she was a little taken aback.
The man’s figure was a bit odd.
"You, come over and talk."
When the buyer spoke, the man, despite his hesitations, could only shuffle towards them with a restless heart.
When the sunlight hit his body, Shen Miaomiao was slightly frightened, but she managed to suppress the instinct to step back.
The man looked to be in his thirties, with an ordinary face, but his body was leaning to the side.
Nanzhi knew what was happening at once. He seemed to be born with a spinal deformity, making his walk uneven. And his upper body was leaning to one side, making him look somewhat abnormal.
Seeing their silence, the man didn’t know what to do. Guessing they might have found him disgusting, he said timidly, "If it’s not feasible, just forget it."
"Can you cook? And where did you previously work as a chef?"
Without asking anything else, Nanzhi got straight to the point that concerned her the most.
"Yes, I cooked in a shop in the Western City for two years. Then, they changed their manager, and I stopped working..."
As the man spoke, he did not dare to raise his head and look at Nanzhi and the others.
"Then could you come with us this afternoon to the shop? We still need to recruit a few more chefs. We’ll check your skills along with theirs."
"Yes! Yes!"
