Becoming the Villain's Discarded Wife -
Chapter 153 Wang Jingzhi
Chapter 153: Chapter 153 Wang Jingzhi
Shen Wenchen did not stay long in Xin City, he went directly to the medicine shop to buy some wound medicine, and then headed straight to the wine house.
After instructing a waiter to prepare what he needed, Shen Wenchen led Zhui Yue to the stables.
Watching Zhui Yue eating intently, Shen Wenchen gently stroked its mane, sighing slightly - indeed, it had been a hard journey for the horse.
When the waiter came back with his items, Shen Wenchen then left the city with Zhui Yue.
The followers on the city tower, seeing the man who came in the morning now leaving on his horse, hurriedly rushed to the City Lord’s Residence.
"My Lord, my Lord, that man has left."
The follower wiped the sweat from his forehead and said nervously, waiting for the city lord’s reply.
The city lord humphed upon hearing the news and got up from the bed, leaving the young man behind him.
A maid from one side knelt down, tidied up the items for him, rectified his clothes, and then retreated.
"If he wants to leave, let him leave."
The follower outside the screen was somewhat worried at his words. After pondering for a while, he reminded him, "But, but what about General Song?"
"He is just a minor general, not Song Lian. I have already sent someone to prepare for it. He won’t live to see Song Lian."
After saying those words, the city lord looked down at the unconscious young man on the bed, reached out his fat fingers, pinched his face, and said, "I’m not very satisfied with this one. Get me a better-looking one."
The follower was startled, and recalling the series of young boys that had been brought into the city lord’s residence over the past three months, was taken aback and finally lowered his head in acknowledgment.
It was not until he received the city lord’s departure that he quickly left the city lord’s residence.
Following the departure of the follower, the city lord lost interest in the boy on the bed, only to caress the thin body on the bed. He left the room only after leaving a purplish bruise mark on the boy’s body.
The maid in the room lowered her head after witnessing the boy’s pitiful state and quietly wiped down the child.
Just after the maid finished cleaning, two servants came in, they proficiently wrapped the boy in a blanket, lifted him onto their shoulders, and took him out of the room.
After Shen Wenchen tended to his wound, he mounted his horse and continued towards Yan City.
Apart from the places where the wound on his back was mostly scabbed, there were some places where pus leaked out. The medicinal powder stuck to his flesh and was almost torn open by the riding movement. The wind and snow froze his eyelashes but rendered his eyes even more determined.
The cold wind, laced with falling snowflakes, gradually hid Shen Wenchen’s figure among the mountains and forests.
The Lin and Shen families were, however, braving the snow for their travel. Fortunately, everyone was able to sleep in the carts last night, or else they didn’t know what might have happened.
"Mother, you stay in the cart and don’t come out and catch a chill," Chen Qiulan said, preventing her mother-in-law from uncovering the cart curtain and helping off the cart.
"Qiulan, you go to the cart and stay with Doudou, let mother walk by the cart."
However, Mother Lin was stubborn about wanting to get out of the cart, only keeping her grandson Doudou quietly sitting in the cart.
Seeing her daughter-in-law’s persevering figure, she thought, what would happen if the cold wind made her ill again?
Thinking this way, Mother Lin was even more determined to get off the cart.
"Old woman, what are you doing! Don’t slow us down at this moment!"
Seeing her still wanting to come out, Father Lin sternly rebuked her immediately.
How could he, the one who shared her bed, not know about his wife’s health?
She had been working hard for decades, although she had not fallen ill on this escape journey, his own body had started to slow down. How could she be completely alright?
If she were to leave the cart, he feared she might become feverish in the evening.
"If you wish to find our daughter sooner, settle down in the cart with Doudou and stop pretending to be strong!"
Being reprimanded by him in front of their grandson, Mother Lin felt a little wronged, but did not argue. Wiping her tears, she sat back in the cart.
"Grandma, what’s wrong?"
Doudou saw his own grandma crying with a handkerchief and was puzzled. Why was grandma crying?
"My grandson!"
Holding Doudou and shedding tears for a while, Mother Lin finally stopped crying. She knew her husband was worried about her.
Since they were old and still dragging the family behind, the more she thought about it, the more Mother Lin’s heart ached.
Looking at the corner of the cart, she noticed some white material. After wiping her tears, she asked her grandson to bring it over. Seeing it was a stack of rabbit skins, she started laughing again.
"Grandma, why are you laughing?"
Seeing his grandma crying one moment and laughing the next, Doudou was a bit puzzled.
"Good boy, we don’t have to worry about catching a cold now!"
The rabbit skins were not enough to make a complete clothing piece, but everyone had two pieces each. Mother Lin was happy nonetheless.
If they couldn’t sew a full outfit, they could at least protect their hearts and knees.
As she calculated, it was enough to sew a piece into everyone’s clothes.
While heavy snow was falling outside, Mother Lin was sewing with Doudou in the cart, mending clothes for the family.
Outside the cart, Lin Yicheng was still leading the way, holding the mule with one hand and not forgetting to protect his wife with the other.
Chen Qiulan was walking closely behind his footsteps, not daring to lag behind for a step.
The two families each braved the wind and snow to continue their journey, yet they chose to remain silent when they saw the frozen corpes of refugees by the roadside.
Nanzhi, who had already decided to rest and not continue the journey due to the heavy snowfall, sighed.
The snow was getting heavier, and even Xiaohe was finding it hard to bear.
After spending just a quarter of an hour outside the carriage, his face was covered with ice crystals. His face felt numb due to the extreme cold. With this, Xiaohe hurriedly entered the carriage.
Just as he thought he could finally warm up, the scholar-like young man, Wang Jingzhi, who was consuming his porridge serenely, suddenly appeared terrified at Xiaohe’s entrance. He even spilled nearly half of his porridge.
Seeing the porridge spilt over the quilt, Shen Miaomiao was initially concerned, but then she noticed that Wang Jingzhi had already retreated to a corner, looking fearstricken.
The once gentlemanly boy now seemed to be a traumatized child who had just encountered an abuser, entirely devoid of his gentle aura.
"Wang, Wang Jingzhi, what’s wrong?"
Shen Miaomiao stared at him dumbfoundedly, unable to speak.
They had grown up together, how could the once naive boy have turned out like this just after two months of not seeing each other?
"Leave, go away!"
There was more than just fear in the young man’s eyes, but determination as well, almost as if he would bite his own tongue off if Xiaohe took one more step closer.
Wang Jingzhi’s actions startled Zhiyu. Nanzhi quickly took her son into her arms to comfort him and stared at Wang Jingzhi in confusion, a hint of curiosity in her gaze.
Could it be that Xiaohe had done something to him?
Although Xiaohe knew why Wang Jingzhi was behaving this way, he fumed at the thought of losing his right to seek shelter in the carriage without having done anything at all.
Why must he?
He was the one who saved him!
The weather outside was so cold, he was not about to go out and get caught in the snow!
