Becoming the Villain's Discarded Wife -
Chapter 131: Descending the Mountain
Chapter 131: Chapter 131: Descending the Mountain
A quarter of an hour, it’s neither long, nor short.
If it were as usual, it would have passed in a blink.
Xiaoqi looked at the lifeless Old Master Wang and then at Yueyue, whom he had protected under his body, and tears welled up in his eyes.
Just now, the hail had injured many people. Even the man who had tried to snatch food had been hit hard. Despite the pain running through his body, he had never stopped smiling because of the weight in his arms.
Among the refugees nearby, some of those with minor injuries were plotting something.
Wang Jingzhi sat on the ground beside them, not reacting much.
It wasn’t until Yueyue’s sobbing reached his ears that he seemed to regain his senses.
As he looked down and saw his grandfather lying on the ground, his face finally showed some emotion.
"Grandpa?"
His voice trembled and his hands wouldn’t stop shaking.
What happened to Grandpa?
Xiaoqi, seeing Wang Jingzhi’s reaction, remained silent, guarding his sister behind him. He put out his hand, intending to move the old master onto the cart.
Master Wang had saved his and Yueyue’s lives; he had to find a place to bury him in peace.
The young boy’s face had returned to its usual color, but the two streaks of black on his cheeks, washed out by tears, revealed his true emotions.
"Don’t touch my grandpa!" Wang Jingzhi, seeing those dirty hands about to touch his grandpa’s clothes, shouted angrily in a low voice.
"It’s because of you! You and your sister! My grandpa died because of you! If we’re out of food, fine, but if it weren’t for your sickly sister, my grandpa... my grandpa wouldn’t have had to die!"
Wang Jingzhi’s voice grew sharp as he spoke and many of the refugees around them stopped in their tracks, silently watching.
Seeing his own grandfather lying on the ground, his face pale and his silver hair stained with snow, Wang Jingzhi just hugged Old Master Wang and burst into tears.
Xiaoqi withdrew his dirty little hand and just held Yueyue, who was still sobbing softly, in his arms.
"Yueyue, don’t cry. If you cry, the bad guys will come." Xiaoqi looked straight into Yueyue’s eyes, uttering each word deliberately.
The little girl’s face was already beet red from crying, but once she heard what her brother had said, she could only try to stop her sobs by sniffling, not letting herself continue to cry out loud.
Her brother said that if she continued to cry, the bad guys would come.
"Brother, Master Wang, Master Wang is gone." With tears in her eyes, Yueyue could only lean against Xiaoqi’s chest and cry in a whisper.
"Yueyue, be good. Master Wang was a very, very good person, Master Wang will become an immortal."
As the two kids comforted each other, one of the male refugees watched them with envy.
The two little ones, the girl looked sickly, probably wouldn’t sell for a decent price, but he wasn’t sure if her meat was still edible...
The boy, on the other hand, didn’t look like he had any problems, and he had a pretty face. If the refugee could send him to the city lord of Xin City, he would surely be rewarded...
Wang Jingzhi didn’t let Xiaoqi or Yueyue touch Old Master Wang anymore and sent them away cursing.
Looking at the distressed figure, Xiaoqi just led Yueyue to kneel in front of Old Master Wang’s body and kowtow to him several times.
Then he said softly, "Brother Wang, let me bury Master Wang. He will rest in peace, and then he has to go to Heaven to become an immortal."
The two kids knelt on the ground while Wang Jingzhi ignored them. He picked up Old Master Wang, put him on the cart, and staggered forward.
"Brother, shall we follow them?" Yueyue gently tugged at the corner of her brother’s clothes and asked in a soft voice.
"No, from now on, brother will take you along." Xiaoqi held his sister’s hand, his eyes bloodshot but unyielding.
Nanzhi in Qing Fenghan watched a group of women approaching with clothes and began to step back.
"Mrs. Shen, we’re supposed to meet relatives this afternoon. You should at least change your clothes. Your current appearance is really..." The leading woman looked troubled as she looked at Nanzhi and the other women.
After all, Mother Shen will be their young miss’s godmother, looking like this, those with loose tongues might talk...
Nanzhi noticed the hesitation of the woman, and had to persist, saying: "After all, it’s simply acknowledging kinship, a matter of mere moments. We’re in a hurry to hit the road, so let’s not bother with these details."
"This..."
The women looked at each other and said no more.
In the end, they could only leave with the clothes.
"Fatty girl, are you sure you don’t want to wash up?" Lin Yicheng scratched his head when he saw his sister’s extremely dirty face.
Didn’t they bathe in the woods just a few days ago?
Why are they not willing to wash with warm water now?
"It’s safer this way."
Shen Miaomiao, who wanted to talk about washing, suddenly choked on her words.
Indeed, it’s much safer to look filthy like this.
Everyone was worried that Yuanbao would continue crying and not let Nanzhi go, but unexpectedly the whole kinship ceremony went smoothly and the little girl behaved remarkably well.
"Mother!"
The little girl leapt into Nanzhi’s arms, curled up contentedly for a moment before releasing her.
Before Nanzhi, the new godmother, could even say a word, the little girl had already run off leaving no trace.
Nanzhi was left confused.
In less than an hour, how had the affectionate little girl from this morning changed so drastically?
Although surprised, Nanzhi took a sigh of relief. At least she would not have to worry about hearing the little girl crying out for her mother as she set off.
Before leaving, Chi Sheng didn’t only let them have gruel, he also gave them each another two taels of vegetables.
Seeing the bright green vegetables in the cart and put Nanzhi in a cheerful mood. She was grinning so hard it felt like her lips were about to reach her ears.
But Nanzhi just heard a noise inside the carriage as soon as Qing Fenghan’s people left.
When she looked, the ones covering their mouths and laughing there were Yuanbao and Zhiyu, right?
"Yuanbao?!" Nanzhi was dumbfounded upon seeing the little girl, and almost fell from the carriage.
"Mother! I also want to go with you and brother." The little girl seemed oblivious to any problem, smiling stupidly at Nanzhi.
Nanzhi was furious, she was just about to stop the mule cart to punishing these two children, when the cart bounced. She almost hit her head on the carriage.
Rubbing her sore bum, Nanzhi quickly steadied the mule before she could take a breath.
Zhiyu in the carriage was looking at Yuanbao, whispering with pursed lips: "I already told you to keep quiet! When mother comes, we’re both going to get spanked."
Yuanbao blinked her big eyes, and finally followed Zhiyu’s example, covering her mouth with her tiny hands. "Brother, is mother very fierce? Does it hurt when she spanks you?"
The little boy was taken aback by the question, scratched his head and shook it, saying: "Mother is not fierce."
He continued, recalling the times when mother was spanking him with a smile: "Mother doesn’t hurt when she spanks."
"That’s good then. Mother is not fierce. Getting spanked doesn’t hurt. We have nothing to be afraid of then." Yuanbao patted her chest.
Daddy is so fierce!
Every time she was naughty, he wouldn’t let her eat meat!
