Chapter 135: [The Corpse Collector] (11)

A while later, outside the forest, Ryan glanced at Lucian, who had just emerged from the trees, and asked, "Is it done?"

Lucian dusted off his hands, his expression one of having just vented an immense rage. His voice was cold as he replied, "It’s done. But that guy’s recovery speed is absurd—by tomorrow, he probably won’t even have a scratch left on him."

Ryan didn’t say anything more and walked away.

That’s right—Lucian wasn’t allowed to act before Ryan. But as long as Ryan didn’t see, it didn’t matter.

Lucian looked at Silvanus, who was nestled in Ryan’s arms with his eyes tightly shut. His brows furrowed slightly, and he said in irritation, "Is he going to be okay like this? Did he lose his memory? If it weren’t for us, he’d have died out there."

Ryan turned a cold gaze to Lucian. "Shut your mouth, or I’ll deal with you."

Lucian smirked mockingly, clearly unafraid of Ryan’s threat.

Only then did Ryan speak slowly, "If Silas is that person, then he would never harm him."

As he spoke, he lowered his gaze to Silvanus, his eyes filled with devoted attachment.

Lucian, who always loved to argue, had nothing to say in response this time.

That’s right—that guy would never hurt Silvanus. At least, not here.

Ryan and Lucian said no more and headed back to their room in the village.

As they neared the room, the sound of water being parted suddenly echoed out, as some slimy creature had just passed through, dragging water with it, only to retreat into the village, searching for prey quickly.

Ryan and Lucian’s footsteps remained calm and unchanged as if they hadn’t heard a thing.

They opened the door and stepped inside. The warm, slightly dim yellow light gave the room a cozy feel—though it was also somewhat stifling.

Inside, Bryan stood up the moment he saw them. His eyes landed on Silvanus, still in Ryan’s arms, and his face filled with obvious worry. "Is he okay? He seemed fine when he left."

"Fine?" Lucian scoffed.

Bryan turned to look at Lucian, eyebrows knitting slightly. "Lucian, ever since we came to this village, you’ve changed a lot."

He spoke slowly, enunciating every word like he was implying something. The word "changed" was especially loud and clear.

[What the hell just happened? The screen suddenly went black—I couldn’t hear a damn thing! Where did the Lucian and Silas argument go? Who gets the beautiful man now?!!!]

[The person above, do you have a rock in your head?]

[I thought it was just me!!! The screen suddenly went snowy—I couldn’t see or hear anything. I thought the system crashed!]

[Must’ve been a glitch. Good thing it got fixed. Even if we missed the Lucian and Silas argument, at least we got to see Lucian and Bryan go at it.]

[Why is Lucian in every single argument?]

[Can’t help it. He’s just that annoying.]

[I think he’s kinda cute, though. A shy boy, hahaha.]

[A shy boy? Lucian? You people are out of your minds.]

Hearing that, Lucian smirked, completely unbothered by Bryan’s words, and even fired back:

"I’ve changed? Then don’t you think you’re the strange one? The moment we arrived at this damn place, you couldn’t contact the task giver anymore. Ryan and I have already fished up two corpses—we’ve got a lead. Have you ever tried contacting the task giver to confirm how many bodies we need to collect? Things were weird from the very beginning. If the reward weren’t so damn high, we wouldn’t even be here! This place is seriously messed up. How about we leave tomorrow?"

He was asking, but his voice was fierce, like a threat. His bright red eyes seemed to glow as they fixed coldly on Bryan.

Bryan’s lips curled, but under the dim lighting, his expression looked stiff. "I already told you—it’s because the signal is too weak..."

"And I already told you—we can leave the village. Then you can contact that mysterious person of yours. With a huge reward, I wouldn’t mind making two trips back here." Lucian shrugged, smiling at Bryan, his tone light and careless.

Bryan’s lips pressed together slightly as if momentarily choked for words.

Lucian continued, "Besides, you saw it too. Silvanus’s condition is getting worse each day. As a responsible captain, you wouldn’t want to see him suffer permanent brain damage or lose his memory forever, right?"

Bryan’s gaze toward Lucian grew darker and darker as if he could no longer hide anything.

[Lucian’s mouth is something...]

[He talks nonstop—Bryan can’t even get a word in, haha!]

[Because Lucian’s reasoning is too solid. Bryan doesn’t stand a chance against that logic, haha!]

[Honestly, more than Ryan, Lucian is like a loyal guard dog for Silvanus, lol.]

Just then, Ryan’s calm voice suddenly cut through the tense atmosphere:

"Alright, where are the others?"

Bryan looked at Ryan, his expression adjusting based on everyone’s attitude. When facing Lucian, he curled his lips into a smile and said,

"They’ve all gone to sleep. I was waiting for you two to return. I was worried something might’ve happened to Silvanus."

"Ha, it’s not like we’re going to eat him," Lucian interjected.

Before Bryan could respond, Ryan said,

"Alright, then we’ll head back to our room. You should get some rest, too, Captain. See you tomorrow."

With that, Ryan turned and headed to his room. Bryan watched them and gave a slight smile:

"See you tomorrow."

Lucian deliberately bumped into his shoulder as he passed Bryan, making Bryan’s stiff body sway slightly. Lucian raised an eyebrow at him, eyes full of mockery and provocation, then headed into his room and slammed the door shut.

Bryan stood there, his expression growing darker by the second—until it twisted and contorted like a painting being torn apart. Utterly hideous.

[Haha, he’s about to snap! I thought they were gonna start throwing punches!]

[Am I the only one who noticed Bryan always holds back when Silvanus is around? Only Ryan and Lucian are here—Silvanus is unconscious, which fits perfectly with Bryan’s rules for killing... yet he didn’t do a thing! His hands were shaking from rage!]

[Wait... could Silvanus become the protagonist of this story? I thought this timeline’s scenarios didn’t have protagonists. Most end in complete annihilation...]

[Interesting point. But shouldn’t Bryan be targeting him if Silvanus is the protagonist? Isn’t Bryan the villain, after all?]

[Hmmmm...]

The viewers were all filled with questions, but Silvanus knew nothing. For him, it had truly been a dreamless night.

His mind felt as though it had been adrift on the ocean all night until, finally, he washed up on an island—he had reached the shore.

Sitting on the bed, Silvanus suddenly snapped his eyes open and gasped for air, mouth wide open as if he hadn’t taken a single breath all night. He shot upright, scanning the room around him, cold sweat quickly soaking his forehead.

When his soul had been pulled away, he hadn’t felt anything.

But when it returned to his body...

That feeling—he never wanted to go through it again.

"Hey, don’t make that face. Are you dying for real or what?"

Lucian’s unpleasant voice cut in abruptly. Silvanus ignored him, turning straight to Ryan and quickly accepting the glass of water in his hand, drinking like a man lost in the desert who’d just found an oasis.

Lucian lowered his gaze to the glass in his hand. The mocking smirk on his lips faded into something strangely unreadable. He slammed his glass down on the table with enough force to almost split it in two. A crack formed in the glass, and water splashed everywhere.

[Alright then—he’s mad when he gets attention and angry when he’s ignored. I’ve found someone even more confusing than all those "mysterious girls" have.]

[Come on, even girls aren’t this complicated!]

[He’s just desperate for attention at any cost, any time. The sad part is, all he needs to do is drop his ridiculous ego.]

[Honestly, Lucian knows precisely what he needs to do to get what he wants—he’s just unwilling to give in, haha.]

Silvanus casually glanced over the comments, scrolling back to look at the ones from last night.

After realizing that not a single comment had appeared during his coma—right when Lucian was arguing with Silas—his brows furrowed in suspicion.

Did the system go down at that exact moment? That felt too convenient.

Combined with his intuition and the bizarre feeling he got from Silas, Silvanus was now certain: Silas’s identity wasn’t ordinary. It might go far beyond the dungeon... maybe even beyond the dungeon’s livestream system itself.

Just who is he?

"Are you feeling better now?"

Ryan’s gentle, concerned voice broke through Silvanus’s thoughts at just the right moment.

Silvanus looked up at him, his wide eyes full of innocence:

"What happened yesterday? I can hardly remember anything..."

As he spoke, he brought both hands to his head, fingers running through his soft hair before tightening slightly. His head bowed, and his voice was filled with confusion and doubt:

"I don’t know what happened... I don’t remember a single thing from yesterday. What exactly... is wrong with me?"
