Beauty's Beasts -
Chapter 68 - 66
Chapter 68: Chapter 66
Sydney who was about to blow a few more fuses widened her eyes as she followed Ken’s silhouette that went up into the sky. A dramatic wolf cry rung out not long after making Sydney who was angry with shame splutter with laughter.
She looked over to where Titan was and laughed making him give an evil grin. However, he was a little shaken worried that Sydney would be angry at him but seeing her being so carefree about it, he heaved a sigh of relief which Ash caught on. "Nice luck!" he tapped on Titans shoulder and walked over to where Sydney was.
"Are you that happy?" he asked taking the hair out of her face.
"He deserved it!" she giggled. Ken would be a world class pervert if he was back on earth.
"He sure did!" he added. Seeing all the family was around, he looked at her. "Do you want to go out and play?" he asked.
"What games do beastmen play?" Sydney asked.
Hunting...mmm...do you know of any games?’ he shot the question back.
"Hunting is just like hide and seek..." she gave it some thought and she’d be at a disadvantage. "then...how about tag?" Sydney asked excitedly.
"Okay tag it is!" Titan joined in despite not knowing a thing about the game. However before Sydney could say a word, a group of eagle scouts screeched out loud making Ng Caden look up. Sydney followed suite and looked up to see that they were descending to where they are.
Landing, they shifted immediately and greeted Ash, Titan and Sydney. She was familiar with them.
"Whats that emergency?" Caden asked with a frown
Hearing emergency, Titan took his human form and rushed over to Sydney’s side wrapping an arm around her waist. Ken returned covered in leaves and twigs but he wasn’t angry. He was rather happy as the throw was fun!
"A group of fish people have been sighted outside the city of beasts." The eagle beastman reported.
"Them?" Caden was surprised. They never left their dwellings. Why were they headed for their city?! How close are they?!" Caden asked.
"Three days away. Since the range of patrol was widened we noticed them during the morning patrols and rushed back to report this matter." The beastman said and looked at Ash.
Sydney was intrigued hearing them talk but since it was administerial matters, she didn’t poke her nose and silently listened from the sidelines.
Ash sighed. "Fly back and bring them along. For them to come this way which is days away from the sea, it must be a very important matter." He commanded.
The eagle beastman nodded and signaled for the others to follow him. The initial play atmosphere turned a little solemn.
"Why the long faces?" Sydney whispered to Titan who laughed at her attempts to be unheard. Everyone could clearly hear her.
"The fish people don’t have good relationship with the land people." Titan said and he carried her to sit on his forearm.
"Why?" Sydney asked as she made herself comfortable. "Both beasts have different lines of interest why the hostility?"
"It shouldn’t be termed as hostility. It’s more like hierarchy?! Fish people believe themselves to be of a higher hierarchy than the land land beasts. Thats the source of disputes." Titan explained. He had been there when this dispute was at its highest. A female from the fish people fell in love with a land male beast. She insisted on staying with him and he wanted to take her to his home however, her tribesmen rejected the idea. The female had already mated with the male and she was forced to cancel the mating mark of the land beastman.
It was a disastrous time which kicked land people from the large oceans and the fish people from land.
"Ahh..I see. Well, let’s find out what they want from us now!" Sydney declared domineeringly making Ash who had been lost in thoughts look at her. He laughed softly and felt better. Indeed, he shouldn’t worry himself.
"Oh..right..I’ve been meaning to ask. Where did themilk I had come from?"
"We have a cow of course!" Ken boasted.
"COW!?" Sydney was in disbelief.
She stood before the cow shed and saw a cow eating grass. It was healthy and hide a shine to its coat which was both white and black. "Heavens! It’s a REAL cow!!!!" she exclaimed and ran over to the shed. "Where did you get her?? She’s extremely beautiful! We should also get a bull so we can have more cows in the future!"
"The male ones are a little fierce and can cause damage." Ash explained. He had gone through lengths to steal these beasts from her hometown and drag them over but he didn’t expect the male beast to be extremely aggressive. Over the years, they had multiplied but a sickness attacked them and only a few survived.
"You got her?" Sydney asked as she pointed at the cow when she heard Ash explain. "It isn’t a beastman, right!?" she was a little skeptical
"Mm." he replied. Why would she think it’s a beastman in the first place.
"Whew....I’m glad it isn’t a beastman!’ Sydney sighed dramatically as she placed her hand over her heart. That shocked her males who looked at the cow with scrutinising eyes. It was a beast from her world and he had seen her kind eat it and milk it from time to time. It for sure wasn’t a beastman.
Sydney loitered around the cow until she was dragged back inside to eat something. Now that we have a cow and sufficient milk, I’ll be able to make different dairy products. I can’t keep living off meat for so long."
"You don’t like meat?! Shawn asked worriedly. Most females here survived off meat and fruits, it was their standard meal. But he remembered a female who was bought over but she also didn’t like meat and enjoyed eating different kinds of grass. "We can try different foods from the grass eating beastmen." Shawn added.
Ken frowned. "Those deserve to be hunted and cooked!"
"You eat fellow beastmen?!" Sydney was so surprised. Now that it was mentioned, she had noticed that the city of beasts majorly had carnivores.
"No we don’t! Shawn rebuked that.
"If Ken suggested it then there’s a likelihood that you do!" Sydney insisted." If not, why aren’t there grass eating beastmen in the city of beasts. It must be because you attempted to eat them!"
"We don’t!" Ash joined. He didn’t want to have a terrible image before his mate. "The cubs in the city tried to eat them before to see if they were tasty. It was later found to be a prank and the cubs were only messing around"
"You mean they couldn’t distinguish you from regular beasts?" Sydney felt that the grass eaters were really cute, she had an urge to go mess with them too.
"In the face of fear, even an ant could seem like a lion." Titan said with a scoff. As a strong beast, the weaker ones weren’t really deserving of life to him but he had learnt to come to terms with it. After all, they were good play things.
"So...did you guys also mess with the grass eaters?" Sydney asked as a mischievous smirk graced her face. The look made the men rethink on their answers as they didn’t know if it was in their favours. "I mean when you were cubs?" Sydney added when she saw their skeptical expression.
It was a worldwide known game that most young beastmen played. So each and everyone of them in the room had played that game. Even Ash! Titan inclusive. Saying otherwise would be lying in broad daylight because even some beastmen that didn’t have mates would go to play.
Clearing his throat, Titan sniffed. "I’ve been a responsible beastman since childhood. I wouldn’t dare do such things!" he defended himself. But as a snakeling, he was the most mischievous and he suffered alot for years.
"I want to go!" Sydney exclaimed happily.
"No!" All of them rejected her idea. Those beastmen though are grass, some were extremely aggressive that even carnivores had to stay alert!
"Who said I’m asking for permission. I’m going either way! So come if you want or stay! Besides, I’m a female...I doubt they’ll harm me." Sydney nonchalantly said with a shrug.
"That’s a great idea!" Ken was in cahoots. It had been a while indeed!
"You are a wolf Prince!" Shawn reminded him. The honour and dignity of their clan was on the line
"Incase you’ve forgotten, my elder brother is back so what I do is of no concern to the wolf tribe." Ken humped. He was extremely delighted to be free of clan duties.
"Then who is up for the game?" Sydney asked. While she was messing around, she’d also find means of getting foods from the grass eating beastmen.
"Are you only going to play?" Shawn asked so that they could be prepared for any other unforseen circumstances.
"Nope! I intend to also trade with them for their foods. I wonder what is used to trade for those foods...."
"So you also eat grass?" Ken asked.
"I eat both!" Sydney replied but ignored him.
"You are really weird!"
"Says a pervert!"
"Is it a good thing?"
"Depends on how stupid you are!"
"It’s only now I realise that I chose wrongly!"
"The door is wide open!"
"In your dreams!" Ken wasn’t letting her have the final say
"Then I’ll go sleep!" Sydney murmured irritably. Why didn’t it seem like this guy only loved picking fights with her?! Hmm?
"Okay. But Sydney, it’s already evening. Going out now isn’t good
Ash cursed his luck but also agreed. It had been a while since he last fooled around.
++++Sydney felt her body chill but before she could register what it was, her forest green eyes were covered by the wisps of smoke.
