Chapter 167: Variable.

Chapter 167: Variable.

Let’s go back home. You have to tell me what exactly is going on." Scott said and held her dainty hand in his own dragging her along.

Wai.. wait... aren’t you busy? I can wait!" Sydney tried resisting but it was futile.

The owner of this place is here. Consider this as me taking a break. Come along. I want to see those children " Scott didn’t stop in his steps and they duo left.

An hour after, Scott was looking on unbelieving as his eyes shook. This didn’t make any sense, at all! No matter what angle he tried to understand this phenomena from, it didn’t seem to add up.

You’ve been here before? How??"

I also have no idea but that’s the apparent case right now. I even have memories of my life in this beast world, and everything feels too real for me to deny it. If it were mere memories then I’d have been able to ignore it but with the appearance of the children..it’s really hard. I feel the bond between me and them, a deep longing and despair." Sydney sighed.

Scott nodded his head in understanding as his mind raced to make heads and tails of this matter.

Let’s go home first." He said and they exited from the stone house ’restaurant’. This had also been one of his ideas and it had actually been taken seriously by many beastmen who used these places to not only father information but also trade with crystal stones.

The streets were illuminated with fires that didn’t die out. This was a kind of wood, the black fire wood that a clan had introduced as their bargaining chip to enter into the city. Naturally, Scoot didn’t push them away as he felt this was a great deal for him as now, even though it had gotten dark, some females along with their mates could be seen walking around freely.

There was also a patrol team and hence, everything was in place.

Sydney and her brother made their way home. The whole place was illuminated with brightly lit black fire wood and there wasn’t a single corner of the place that had a dark corner. Scott had moved to live in this place during their time away but now, he needed to move again.

When they made their way into the courtyard, two white figures flashed over to Sydney side, although they didn’t collide into her, they expressed their longing for her rubbing against her slightly not to leave too much of their scent lest their are beat to pulp.

Sydney was happy to see them too and wished to talk to them but a certain impatient person couldn’t hold up any longer.

Scott dashed into the house only to come to a halt upon seeing the four distinctive and unfamiliar figures seated in the seating room. Three boys and a small girl.

They also sensed him and turned to look at him and there was astonishment in their eyes.

Lilly’s heart thumped crazily. "Variable." She muttered looking at the man who bore a resemblance to their mother. This was her first time seeing him and she frowned. Her eyes shifted to Sydney who offered her a big smile.

"Lilly, come over and meet my brother. He is your one and only uncle. Frost, Lin, Fred, you guys too come over." Sydney urged the children to come over. She couldn’t wait for them to get acquainted with eachother.

Scott walked over his shock yet to dissolve and looked over Lilly. "She looks like you when you were small, except for the eyes of course!!" He said squatting so that he was at Lilly’s height as his eyes continued to observe the small girl his eyes shinning with unshed tears.

It was really hard to believe but once the fact was slapped into one’s face, the burst of emotions would be capable of driving one mad. Now like him, a few months he’s missing his sister and worried about her only for to come back with children, her children at that!! How shocking!!!!

Lilly also observed the variable before her. This man was indeed her mother’s brother but he wasn’t supposed to be here in the first place. Something had actually fallen out of her grasp. This threatened her plans!

She’s a little cold though...." Scott laughed harmlessly. "Hi, my name is Scott and I’m your mother’s older brother. It’s nice to meet you."

Hello." Lilly greeted back her pair of black eyes seemingly deep and unfathomable.

His eyes shifted to the boy who were standing behind Lilly, each with a pair of ears and tail, their green eyes giving him a sense of familiarity. How are you?" He greeted them.

They looked at Sydney and she nodded to encourage them. But before they could speak, Scott was already on his feet with Lilly in his arms. I’m going to have a talk with them." He said and walked over through the corridors to the backyard.

"Huh?" Sydney was confused. What kind of attitude was that?! She shrugged and let them talk. She walked over to the kitchen to find that Shawn and Greg were preparing dinner, infact, it was ready but they kept adding firewood to it so that it was kept warm as they awaited her return.

You’ve returned." Caden walked over from the backyard and came to Sydney’s side. Aren’t you tired? Let’s go and wash them you can eat something." He suggested and took her away. Sydney didn’t refuse as she followed after him.

Soon dinner was served and Ash had also returned. He had wanted to invite his mother and father but his invitation was declined harshly by his father figure. He could only sigh and return home to his female.

As of present, all the seats on the dinning table had been taken up. Caden was seared closest to her right while Lilly took a seat to her left while she sat at the head of the table, this indicated her statis as the head of this family and on one side sat Ray and his group while the other was occupied by Caden, Ken, Shawn, Ash and Scott.

This made the atmosphere a little awkward but everyone was reclined to those he was more familiar with. Let’s eat." Sydney spoke and everyone was down with their food with a familiar reasonance. It was only her and Lilly who like to eat vegetables and cereal foods like rice where as the rest of the table was covered with big chunks of meat.

However this fear like serving was nothing in the eyes of these men as the table was cleared in a few minutes. Shawn and Greg who had been in charge of cooking went back to the kitchen to retrieve the second serving of food and none of them men at the table held back their appetite. Sydney’s mouth could only twitch endlessly. Luckily, this place didn’t require her to earn money as the head of the family because if that had been the case, she’d definitely die working to sustain them.

After the second serving, Lin and his brothers went to their room after wishing Sydney a good night. And one by one, they left for their rooms. Sydney went to sleep alongside Lilly and didn’t let her current mates enter her room lest her former mates let their imaginations run wild.

In the middle of the night.

Hey..hey..." Sydney felt someone shake her awake and she groaned before turning over trying to ignore this call, however, her sense was alert and she didn’t get a chance to continue with her sleep as she jerked up on high alert.

Her eyes scanned her surroundings only to find that the fire in her room had brined out . The room was only fairl lit by the moonlight.

"What are you getting worked up for?" The voice asked and Sydney whipped her head to the direction the voice has come from. Infact, it was as if the voice was buried deep within her.

"Who are you?" Sydney asked vigilantly.

Ahhh...seems like i slept for so long that you actually forgot me!!! I’m disheartened!!" The other party’s voice was full of sadness and complaining.

Tell me who you are?" Sydney asked her voice indicating how she was still on high alert for this person.

I’m the core." The voice said sending a jolt into Sydney’s body her consciousness rippling like a stone had been thrown over. Though it’s really not the most convenient time for me to wake up, at this state, you’ll die without even knowing why. Sigh .."

Sydney frowned at her words. ’Die without knowing?!’

Yes, exactly that. " the voice replied.

Did I make an enemy of someone?" Sydney asked again.

"You don’t necessarily have to make an enemy of someone to be targeted. Just like me, I didn’t entirely nothing but ended up being hunted and hurt. In the end, I couldn’t even protect myself and had to borrow aide of others." The voice was rueful. "But to answer your question, yes..we have a very formidable enemy lurking in the dark and that enemy has grasped a portion of your spirit so I’m forced to come out now and aide you. If I don’t do that, we will all die something I’m not ready and not willing to witness."

Sydney fell into silence. An enemy in the dark... "Does all of this that’s happened so far, even the existence of children had something to do with you?" Sydney asked.

Well... the voice was hesitant, if anything, it’d prefer not to say and it did. It acted like it didn’t exist at all leaving Sydney in a state of dead silence. It was infact as if their discussion never existed.
