Beauty's Beasts
Chapter 163: Return to the city of beasts

Chapter 163: Return to the city of beasts

Sydney hadn’t walked far off when she heard the sound of trees rustling from her left side.

This point of the forest was considered dense and because of the dry season, most of the grass had thinned out after loosing their vitality.

In a shrub, there seemed to be something that kept twisting and turning hence making those sounds. At first, Sydney was startled but when she observed closely, her heart softened.

It was because a baby bird had fallen in the shrub and was having a hard time coming out. It was putting on an endless struggle like ita life depended on getting out of the shurb. What was astonishing was the fact that it was letting out a single cry!

Sydney walked over to the shrub careful not to startle the little guy. Around its body were shells. Did it just hatch? Sydney wondered and moved closer

The little bird sensed her arrival and immediately stopped struggling. It turned to look at Sydney with its pair of purple eyes? What kind of bird was this? "Hey..." she cooed the bird and it went into a daze.

It’s underdeveloped beak opened and closed as it looked at Sydney hopefully. It seemed to be saying something to her?

Sydney moved and immediately picked the birdie from the shrub, she also collected it’s shells and walked over to a stone boulder to sit.

The bird was small but had a multitude of coloured feathers! It was more colourful than a rainbow! So pretty!!!" She praised the little bird.

The small guy was dazed as it lay in her warm palm nudging its head against her palm relentlessly. This cause Sydney to giggle but then let out a surprised cry.

Ah!!

The bird had actually bitten her enough to draw blood!

Are you hungry?" Sydney didn’t take much notice of this action and only thought it was extremely hungry. She was baffled! Let’s go back to the village, food should have been cooked already!" She said and stood up to head back to the village.

Along with her, she took the bird shells after examining that there was no nest from the tree next to where the bird had fallen! Anyways, she had Caden and he surely had an idea on how to look after baby birds. She’d look after it for now and later when it grew up, she’d let it go on its way .

She returned and found that Caden and Ken had indeed returned and a pot of meat was boiling over the fire.

I was almost coming to look for you." Ray said as he reduced the fire.

Enzo and the others also returned just in time and everyone sat around the fire to eat. Lilly was with frost and when she saw Sydney, she wanted to dash over but frost held her back.

What is that?" Lilly asked looking at the bird in her mother’s hold. Though her question was innocent and all, her expression was frosty

That was why Frost had held her back. She was going to expose her unsightly side which would turne things around for them.

Oh! This bird? I picked it . It was tangled up in a shrub and is also hungry. I plan to raise it well before letting it go when it’s older." Sydney replied happily as she brought the small bird for all of them to see. Caden, you know how to look after small birds right? Will you teach me how?" She asked.

Naturally she didn’t know. Enzo and her had a child but she was human, thorough and thorough so she had no idea how to look after baby birds.

Enzo shot Caden a look. Both of them were from the eagle clan but Caden stood on a higher position than him! He felt bitter! Extremely bitter!!!

I know ho..." Enzo was unwilling to accept being ignored and spoke.

This interrupted Caden from speaking as all eyes turned to Enzo.

This type of attention...was awkward.

I know how to look after young birds." Enzo steeled his heart and said what he wanted to say.

I’ll deal with raising the little bird for you." Caden didn’t let Enzo take the limelight. Sydney had asked him so seeing Enzo trying to take this opportunity from him birthed displeasure towards Enzo.

Okay. You can both teach me." Sydney stood on a neutral plane. She didn’t push Enzo away but also retained her stand on wanting Caden to be the one to teach her.

The under currents of a possible fight begun to brew. The old and new mates had obviously refused to acknowledge eachother completely. Infact, they were merely tolerating themselves right now.

After dining, Sydney suggested they head on their way back to the city of beasts. According to Enzo and the others words, the beastmen from the other side would soon be crossing the mountain soon and would soon flood this continent. In a rough estimation, those beastmen ranged to hundreds of thousands. The numbers would have been greater but many had lost their lives under unforeseen circumstances which led to the fall in ther numbers.

But that didn’t mean that was all! Greg was a resident of that Continent and had lived in their Beast city. The number of males alone totalled to millions and the females were up to three thousand. Upon hearing this big number, even Ash was numb. That was an astronomical number!! Even the city of beasts didn’t have that much of them! Infact, if all the females on this continent were rounded up, they’d at most be a thousand.

For those migrating beasts to have actually three thousand was mind opening.

Another revelation was the fact that tenth rank and beyond beastmen totaled to a few hundreds.

This made Ash suck in a deep breathe and a feeling of fear impended on him.

In the whole Beast city, they had only him and Titan, of whom was missing at the moment. If it was to add his father on, they’d only be two of them.

Wasn’t this an invasion?!! They’d be loosing their homes without even a single chance to put up a fight! This was a jungle where the strong ruled and the weak were subdued having to adhere to the commands of the strong!

This meant one thing! They had to return to the city of beasts as soon as possible and consolidated their power, at least, they should be strong enough to protect the city from falling into the hands of the migrants!

Under such circumstances, Sydney thought of Titan once again and her heart fell into worry! She looked at Lilly and her son’s and made a decision, she’d first return to the city of beasts for the mean time and depend on the mate mark to ascertain Titan’s condition.

Without further ado, they group set off.

Ash’s parents had returned first to the city of beasts to help Scott govern the place and his presence as the former city lord would at least assure the stability till Ash returned to handle his administrative matters.

Of course, their pace at which they returned was also fast. Caden carried Sydney on his back and took the sky route while the others had to catch up from below.

Ray and his beastless comrades of course had to run on twos like chicken!

This made Ken extrmeohappy and delightful. Heh!! He snickered and left dust in his wake making sure that Ray and his nasty comrades ate after his feet.

That wolf is extremely childish!!" Greg couldn’t help but complain.

And wilful too. He makes me want to beat him to pulp!" Kevin huffed angrily.

Do you dare?" Ray was in laughter. He also faced similar situation when he had just come to Sydney’s house but since his appearance was a little unique, he wasn’t treated so badly. But at this moment, did he even dare do a thing to Caden or Ken even if he was slightly stronger than the latter? No! He dared not! She was her current mate while for him? Just forget it!

Even when she was smashing Titan against a wall, he had to take her into consideration and his actions couldn’t be wilful! This feeling was extremely rueful to the maximum.

Frost and his brothers took the lead. These boys were extraordinary from their father. Even in speed, they beat him!

Haha...old bones!"Ray caught up and begun to taunt Ash to no end. His own sons had beaten him in speed! If not old bones then what was it?!

"Pfttt!!!!" Enzo and the others joined in the banter. Of course they kept running and catching up but they were extremely leisurely in their pace.

The journey that had taken Sydney and her bunch a month and a few weeks was covered in a ten days. They kept the safe route and finally they could see the city walls even if they were still a few hundred kilometres away.

In a range of fifty kilometres, they found that a small town had been constructed outside the city walls and many beastmen were going about their days. However, this town for consisted of only males, not a single female was in sight which meant that all females had been moved into the city walls
