Chapter 214: Satisfied

"I....’’ Lyra stopped talking when she heard a loud sound of something exploding. She looked at Kaizer as he alarmingly got up from his place before he walked towards the cave’s entrance. She could not see his expression because his back was facing her but she could make out something amiss by how his body tensed up. Her suspicion seemed true because Kaizer turned back toward her with a grim face before parting his lips, ’’Stay here and don’t move. I will be right back’’ with that he promptly left the cave and before that, he made sure to put up a barrier that covered the entrance.

Lyra was somewhat familiar with that barrier thing because both Killian and Kyrell always put that around their house. Remembering them made her heartache. She missed her mates and her babies. She was sure that they would be desperate in trying to find her. This made her feel pathetic. Here she was staying comfortably while they must have been worried sick about her absence. This realization urged her to leave this place when Kaizer was not here. But the remaining bit of her rationality stopped her from going out into the forest. The dark surrounding outside the cave looked dangerous, making her hesitant to leave.

But it seemed her resolve would quickly break because she heard another loud noise outside the cave just a second later. She stared at the entrance with batted breath as the barrier covering the opening started to dwindle into nothingness in no time. The previous black smoke was encompassed with silver and blue light and Lyra felt her body shiver as the light increased. She quickly got on her feet and looked down at her palm. No matter how much she tried, her power remained unresponsive together with Darya’s silence inside her mind. Her familiar was not responding to Lyra and as time passed, it just made her more worried but the most important problem right now was someone that was trying to get inside her haven.

It did not take long for Kaizer’s barrier to break and this made Lyra instinctively reach out for a burning ember in the bonfire. Her hand burnt a little but she bore with it as she held the fire torch and faced the front. Her anticipation didn’t last long because the moment she barely calmed her mind, an unfamiliar presence entered the cave. Lyra stepped back in fear as her hands shook. How could she not when she stood facing a giant silver fox that looked at her with its feral gaze? She once again stepped back as the same fox strode towards her. It did not seem like the animal feared the fire she was holding as it walked towards her dauntingly without any care. The only one scared here was herself.

’’Don’t come!’’ she yelled but soon felt like she was stupid trying to talk to an animal. Her mind was too mushy to think about the possibility of the fox being a beastman. For now, the only thing that ran inside her mind was how she was just prey in front of this giant fox, ’’Please.....stay away’’

Lyra hopelessly wished for her powers to return at this moment. Tears surged into her eyes recalling her pathetic situation. So this was it? Was she going to die just like this without even seeing her mates....and her babies? How would her babies live without her? They are too little and innocent to know about the world. And...and her mates? Would they continue living without her by their side? Lyra doubted that. This was why she always asked them to think about themselves before her. No matter what happened to her today, she just wished for her loved ones to be happy and most importantly live.

Just when she was resigning to her fate, something bizarre occurred and the fox in front of her shifted into his beastman form. Lyra quickly looked up at the roof to avoid seeing the man naked. She felt like she could never get used to this world’s males being naked most of the time. It did make sense for them to not have proper covering due to thier beast forms but still, it was odd for her.

On the other side, Xavier looked at the pretty female in front of him with a glare. She was looking up at the roof without even casting a glance at him. This somehow made him angry as well as irritated. How dare she ignore him!?, ’’Hey, female!’’

’’Yes?’’ Lyra quickly responded as she looked at him but regretted it and kept on wandering her gaze elsewhere.

’’Why are you not looking at me?’’ Xavier asked with his teeth gritting.

’’I.....’’ Lyra cleared her throat before continuing, ’’It’s because you are not wearing anything’’

’’So what?’’ he asked not at all understanding her, ’’I can do whatever I want. My body my wish’’

Lyra chuckled, ’’I suppose you are right’’ then she looked only at his face before adding, ’’But it goes two ways. I can decide to not see certain things, it’s my eyes and my wish after all’’

’’You talk well pretty female’’

She heard him comment and frowned, ’’Well I have mouth.....’’

’’Well not all who have mouths have the guts to talk like you in front of me’’ he said while shrugging his shoulders, ’’They get thier heads go flying before they could make a snarky remark on me’’ and this made Lyra flinch. She looked at him warily as he smiled seemingly happy with her reaction. Offcourse she should get scared of him! This way, she would never think about manipulating him into making him her male.

’’Okay now follow me’’ She came out of her thoughts hearing his words.

’’What?’’

Xavier sighed, ’’I mean that I will take you back to the beast city’’

’’Take me back?’’ Lyra was confused. why was this stranger even trying to help her, ’’Why?’’

’’Don’t you recognize me?’’ he couldn’t help but ask. This was bugging him from the beginning. Did she really forget the one that saved her cubs? She didn’t seem like a person that would forget someone that helped her. And his belief turned true as Lyra looked at him for a good minute before her eyes went wide in recognition. Previously due to her worked-up nerves and dim light, she was not able to make out the face of the person in front of her. But now? Now she recognized him.

’’Fox king. I’m sorry I didn’t recognize you earlier’’

’’Doesn’t matter’’ he said with nonchalance but only he knew that it did matter to him. Yes, he didn’t want to get caught up with this selfish female’s tricks but he also didn’t like the feeling of getting not even recognized in her eyes. He hated to admit this, but he felt quite satisfied with her gaze right now when she looked at him with eyes full of gratitude and respect. But what he failed to notice was how having only him in her eyes at the moment was what truly satisfied him.

Xavier liked the idea of it. Having her look only at him. Only him!
