Chapter 180: Duty calls
Chapter 180: Duty calls
Lyra heard little growls approaching her room and widened her eyes.
’It can’t be...’ She couldn’t believe her eyes as her babies sprinted inside the room and got on the bed.
Lyra was still in shock when the cubs started to nuzzle their faces on her hand. Killian got up from her lap and let the cubs even nearer.
Seizing the opportunity, the cubs got on top of her lap and looked up at their mommy with gleaming eyes.
"Babies....." Lyra’s loud sob filled the room as she encircled the cubs into her embrace.
Lyra felt like she could finally breathe. After the process of freezing the poison, her heart broke every time she touched her babies’ cold bodies. She missed this warmth. And their reddish brown eyes filled with life soothed her heart.
Looking at his mate’s happy face made Killian happy too. He shifted back to his beastman form and left the room. He wanted the mother and sons to spend some time with each other.
He just came down the stairs but frowned seeing Noah and Lucas entering the castle with troubled faces.
Noah looked at Killian. Seeing him coming down the stairs, he guessed that Lyra must have woken up.
"Did baby dove gain her consciousness?"
"What!?" Before Killian could answer, Lucas exclaimed, "What do you mean by that, Noah?"
When he didn’t answer, Lucas looked at Killian but the latter answered Noah’s question instead, "She woke up not long ago, and cubs too were cured. The three of them are upstairs"
And as soon as those words left his mouth, Noah rushed toward the second floor.
Whereas Lucas stood in his place in shock, So Killian took it upon himself to explain everything.
Lucas tried to process everything that he heard. Apparently, his mate fell unconscious for the second time, and only now she had woken up. But the good news here was that his little champs were cured too. Lucas felt glad that nothing happened to those little ones. He searched all over the beast city but didn’t find the cure. So hearing Killian’s words relieved him.
However, that relief didn’t last long because he suddenly remembered what he heard from the patrols guarding the city.
Stray beasts were inside the black wolf tribe and that stupid Elena was protecting them. Lucas always knew that she would someday cause trouble but he was not expecting it to be this big. Those stray beasts were a threat to females and now a female herself was allowing them to stay inside her tribe.
And worst of all, Lucas heard that she was treating the other tribes and patrols to stay away by keeping females of the black wolf tribe hostage. They were her own people for goddess’ sake!
Lucas informed about this matter to Noah but his friend was too occupied with the cubs’ safety and Lucas could understand him.
Still, they wouldn’t be able to ignore their duties for a long time because the ones responsible for guarding the city were the silver wolf and lion tribes. Other tribes would soon start to blame them for their failure in keeping the city safe and Lucas could already imagine the future headache that he would have.
So without wasting any more time, he went up to meet his spouse and cubs before leaving for the patrolling.
Lyra was hugging Noah when she heard Lucas’ voice.
"Ly..." he rushed towards her and Noah stepped aside.
Lyra hugged him back and Lucas breathed in his beloved’s scent calming his erratic mind. Then his gaze fell on his little champs beside their mother.
Lucas smiled brightly at them and the two cubs pounced on him. Unlike Victor, Lucas let them fall on his body. The cubs started to bite their favorite uncle playfully and that only made Lucas chuckle.
"Doesn’t it hurt?" Lyra asked. No matter how many times she saw this, she couldn’t help but feel that the cubs would hurt Lucas.
But as always Lucas just shook his head, "We beastmen generally have tough skin and this much will not even leave a scar on us" then he looked at the cubs nibbling on his arm with a faint smile, "Let them be"
’Growl’
While the three were immersed in gazing at the cubs, a loud growl caught all of their attention.
Noah frowned as he recognized that it was a lion’s growl and walked towards the balcony.
Several beastmen of his tribe were looking up at him and Noah understood that it was an urgent message sent by his father.
"Lucas we should leave..."
Lucas furrowed his brows. It must be urgent for the lion king himself to send a message. Then he glanced back at his mate’s confused face.
Lyra didn’t understand what was going on but she could at least guess that something must have happened in the city and now her mates were required to leave.
Noah strode back to his mate and pecked her lips and said as he caressed her cheeks, "I will be right back baby dove. You should rest some more in the meantime"
"What is going on?"
Noah contemplated and answered briefly, "There is news about stray beasts entering the city. So never step out of the castle alone... Okay?"
"Okay" Lyra replied while nodding.
With a final peck on her cheek, Noah stepped back and looked at his cubs, "Take care of your mother"
The two bobbed thier heads in union and saw as their father left the room.
"Take care Ly" Lucas too pecked her lips and left following Noah.
They walked together and soon reached the living room.
Lucas caught sight of the fox king sitting on the stone chair and frowned. He didn’t understand what he was still doing here instead of leaving.
"Xavier, I think you should return to your tribe" it was Noah who said it. He briefly explained the current situation going on in the city making Xavier stand up.
Xavier agonized in his place for a long time before looking up on the second floor. She was up there and he could feel it.
’Shouldn’t she come and thank him for saving her cubs? What an ungrateful woman’ he childishly admonished her in his heart before finally leaving the castle.
Right at that moment, Blake and Demir walked past him and entered the rose castle.
Noah informed them about the news too making Blake groan.
"I’m not going. I want to spend time with my mate" he had enough of walking back and forth and just wanted to stay beside his mate.
"Think about your tribe snake" Lucas took this chance and rebuked him.
"Peter will take care of it" Blake was right. Peter was a five-marked beastman. If not for Blake, he would be the one to become king and he could do a great job keeping the snake tribe safe but would Lucas let go of this chance to separate his mate from this snake? No way!
"You are coming and that is final" announced Lucas before dragging Blake out of the castle.
"This bastard!" Blake grumbled but still followed him. He knew that it was his fate as a king.
Noah chuckled at their antics and turned to look at Victor, "You should go too, Victor. I was informed that those stray beasts entered through the vulture tribe"
"What!?" Victor was surprised. He never heard of this. Without a delay, he too left the castle.
Now only Killian and Demir with Darcio were left.
"Demir you should...." Noah was not able to complete his words because Demir glared at him.
"I didn’t even see my sunshine’s face!" he exclaimed.
"Demir you shouldn’t neglect your duty as a prince of the scorpion tribe" It was Killian who said it.
Demir smirked, "Look who is talking... The one who doesn’t have any tribe"
"Yes, I do not" Killian was not at all bothered by his taunt. Instead, he was feeling exhilarated about getting an opportunity to spend time with his mate.
So to irk Demir more he said, "You should go Demir. Don’t waste your time"
"This little..." Demir grumbled as he gritted his teeth.
He longingly looked at the second floor and left the castle with Darcio following behind him.
Noah too left not long after and Killian grinned ear to ear. Before going to his mate, he made sure to strengthen the magic barrier around the rose castle.

Meanwhile, far inside the dense forest in the beast city, a pair of amethyst eyes snapped open.
Kaizer detected that the barrier surrounding the rose castle was strengthened. After the incident during her labor, he made sure to attach his shadow creature around the castle. This was so he could get notified if something happened to his bunny.
Hence when he felt that the black Panther strengthening the barrier, he couldn’t help but think worse.
"How is she?"
The shadow creature didn’t mention anything negative and that made him relieved.
He wanted to go and check on her himself but held back. The last meeting with her didn’t go well and Kaizer didn’t want to scare her anymore.
This was the first time he experienced emotions like these. He wanted to go but couldn’t bring himself.
Kaizer sighed at his pathetic situation and slumped back on the ground. But his ears perked up when he heard a shuffle against the forest ground.
He looked up and frowned, "Tyler?"
