Chapter 173: Onslaught

It took longer than he imagined to find the one he is looking for.

Kyrell spent hours skimming through the forest on the outskirts of the beast city but he was not able to find that bastard.

As a last resort, he ordered his men to look for that merman. Kyrell was more relieved than he thought after he found tracks of Gregory inside the beast city. He was sure that he would not be able to face his beloved if something happend to those cubs.

He realized that it was his mistake for believing in a stranger and following his suggestion in the past. His impulsive act of kidnapping Lyra brought harm to both her and her babies.

Sometimes he had more severe thoughts running through his mind. ’What if that deadly poison stayed in her body?’ If she was not pregnant at that time, then the poison wouldn’t have shifted to the cubs, and that in turn.....Kyrell stopped thinking further than that.

Coming back to finding Gregory, Kyrell guessed that Gregory might be somewhere near the outskirts of the beast city but he was surprised when his guess turned out false. That abominable merman was very near to them inside the beast city.

He glanced up at Nathan, "Are you sure about it?"

"Yes, your majesty" the informant affirmed, "That merman’s tracks ended near the Black wolf tribe"

"Did any of you witness him inside the tribe?"

"No, but I have one more important news I wish to report to you regarding this matter your majesty"

Kyrell frowned, "What is it?"

"The black wolf tribe is behaving suspiciously"

"How so?"

The informant answered, "After the death of their previous king, there was no news about the new king. It is said that princess Elena is the one in control of the tribe"

Kyrell didn’t understand the importance of mentioning someone else taking control of an unfamiliar tribe in their conversation, "What does that have anything to do with us? I don’t care even if that princess herself becomes the king of her tribe"

Nathan sighed, "Majesty, the issue here is not with her taking control but instead about her giving excess to stray beasts inside the black wolf tribe"

"What did you say?" Kyrell got up from his seat, "Stray beasts?"

"Yes, your majesty. I think that other tribes too didn’t have any idea about this until now. So I sent one of the guards to inform them"

Kyrell could deduce that much. It was not respectful for others to spy on the tribe that had recently lost their king. And with Noah and the lion tribe occupied with cubs’ health, it was no wonder that something like this didn’t come into the light. But the one thing he failed to understand is how those stray beasts even set foot inside the city.

The entire city is surrounded by a stone fortress and the only entrance is heavily guarded by the silver wolf and lion tribe. So he ruled out the possibility of them entering through the main entrance.

Then the next possible entry is through the forest surrounding the city. But entering through there is almost impossible because the ones near that forest are the snake tribe. Blake is ruthless when it comes to defense and his tribesmen were far too vicious for them to make a slip-up.

Another way to get inside is by bypassing the river flowing inside the beast city. The current is too strong for even the strongest beastmen, so Kyrell didn’t understand how those pests could cross it.

kyrell suddenly remembered the peaks on the east side where the vulture tribe resided. He hastily got up from his seat and looked at the informant, "When do you think they moved inside the city? The stray beasts?"

Nathan thought about it and replied, "I think it has not been that long your majesty. Maybe a day or two" He could tell this by conviction because the traces of them moving inside the black wolf tribe were still visible.

Kyrell clenched his fists, "Damn it!" He felt ominous foreshadowing. Why didn’t any of them think about it? The absence of Victor in the beast city is a great opportunity for enemies to attack the vulture tribe that directly would lead them into the city.

They might not be able to go through the forest because Blake is still here. And his second in command, Peter is also strong for them to confront. So the next easiest way is through hills or rivers. And with Victor leaving the city, they chose the easiest out of two and infiltrated.

"Those bastards!" He cursed and left his room. Turning into his beast form, he drifted towards the Vulture tribe.

Meanwhile, Nathan took some of the guards and followed Kyrell.

After flying for some time, they reached the vulture tribe.

Nathan felt his blood turn cold in his veins when he saw the image in front of him. Blood splattered all over the cliff with corpses lying on the ground. There was a battle going on in the city but no one was aware of it.

"Vacate the females and younglings out of here" he heard his king’s order and informed the other eagles to get on the ground.

"Kill every single stray beast there!" Kyrell’s voice rang amongst the chaotic battlefield.

’Screech’ the eagles asserted and glid down to attack the stray beasts.

The stray beastmen on the cliff were confused when they saw eagles attacking them.

’This is not supposed to happen!’ The leader of the stray beasts swore inwardly. Everything was well planned out. Already half of them were inside the city and another half were presumed to enter today after completely annihilating the vulture tribe. An opportunity like this does not arise all the time and they thought about making use of it until the end.

But that seemed impossible now because of the unseen arrival of Eagle beastmen. And to make it worse, a king beastman stood against them.

The leader could see it in those crimson orbs of the golden eagle. They were filled with a malignant glint. He just stayed in the sky but only his presence gave enough strength and courage to his tribesmen and it showed in their fierce way of tearing his men apart. This is the advantage of having a king by their side.

They too initially attacked the vulture tribe due to this reason. The King of the vulture tribe is out of the city and no matter how much they tried, the vulture beastmen were still disorganized and sloppy without their king.

"Retreat now!" The leader shouted and started to take a step back with his comrades. The stray beasts felt the shift in the situation and quickly scampered down the cliff.

Meanwhile, Kyrell narrowed his eyes and asserted, "Catch them"

’Screech’ only that was needed for the eagles. They started to attack the retreating figures.

Howls and painful wails filled the cliff. After some time everything turned dead silent. Only panting of the survived beastmen transited the surroundings.

Felix who is second in command after Victor looked up to the sky and bowed gratefully. He couldn’t even imagine what would transpire if the eagle king didn’t arrive. He was informed that King Victor was leaving the beast city. But Felix or any of their tribesmen were not ready for what happened next.

Suddenly they were ambushed by a large horde of stray beasts and were forced to defend their tribe. Many of the courageous warriors of the vulture tribe sacrificed their lives for the tribe’s safety.

Felix glanced at his dead comrades in melancholy. At least no females or younglings were harmed. He would not be able to face his king if that happened.
