Chapter 152: Lyra’s good boy

Chapter 152: Lyra’s good boy

Lexi for the first time in her life felt that her life was meaningless.

She was still trying to overcome Derrick’s demise and now her father was also dead. The one who taught her to walk when she was little was now lying on the ground as a corpse. The hands that held so much warmth whenever they rubbed her head now felt cold. The face that always had a confident smile was battered beyond recognition.

"Jacob!" Lexi closed her eyes when she heard her mother’s desperate cry. Her heart broke into pieces seeing her mother’s wailing. But most of all, she felt frustrated for not being able to do anything in this situation.

If only she was born a male, then she could have avenged her father’s death. Not only her but the entire tribe was filled with misery. They didn’t know the perpetrator’s identity because every single guard who was patrolling that day either lost their life or was out of their minds.

When the lion tribe informed them about this disaster, Lexi and her mother were away from the tribe. For the last few days, her father acted more and more paranoid and always suggested that they leave the tribe. He even made sure to send the elite guards with them for their safety.

It was as though he had an intuition that something bad might happen and it really did transpire. Lexi only knew that her father was trying to do something with the tribe’s strongest witch master but she was not clear about their objective. She did ask some of her mates to secretly investigate her father but the fox king was very confidential and did not leave any traces.

Now her father was dead and she was not able to find information about either their goal or the witch master inside the fox castle.

"We have to notify the prince about this your highness" Lexi came out with her thoughts after hearing one of the tribe elder’s words.

"Brother?" She asked hesitantly. Lexi could understand the elder’s worry. Leaving the throne empty for too long might hurt tribesmen’s spirits and other tribes might look down on them. And worst of all, the stray beasts might launch an attack during this period to steal females.

The one that came into her mind now was Micheal. He would help in holding back the stray beasts that are under him but the ones that are out of his influence might think otherwise and attack them.

Lexi felt her head throb with too much stress. Only five marked or above beastmen can take the throne but no one like that was currently present in the tribe. Now the tribe’s and her only refuge is her brother. He was ousted out of the tribe by their own father because.....her brother broke a law of the beast world by killing a female who pestered him to become her mate.

Females are rare and precious in the beast world and even females aren’t allowed to kill each other but her brother did it without blinking his eye. Lexi sometimes saw her brother warning that female but that girl’s stubbornness led to her demise.

After that incident, he received resentment from other males and her father expelled him from the tribe.

"Do you know where brother is right now?" She asked the elder and smiled after receiving a positive response.

The elder nodded and beckoned a guard to step forward, "This guard claimed that he knows about his highness’ current location"

Lexi looked at the guard in eagerness, "Do you really know where my brother is?"

The guard blushed catching a glimpse of Lexi’s beautiful face and nodded meekly, "Ye-yes your highness. I was sent to the outskirts of the beast city by his majesty a few months ago to run an errand. During that time, I came across some beastmen talking about a powerful fox beastman staying in their village"

"How can you be so sure that it is brother Xavier?"

"They mentioned him having two different colored eyes, your highness"

Silence fell over the entire castle as soon as those words left his mouth. The elder glared at the guard and berated him, "Watch what you say!"

"I apologize elder" the guard replied meekly and glanced at Lexi’s pale face with fear. Talking about the prince’s eyes was forbidden in their tribe and he chided himself for his slip of the tongue.

Lexi took a deep breath before looking at the guard, "Make sure that my brother gets the news about father as soon as possible. You cannot force him to come with you because he will not listen to others’ words. Just tell him about the situation and return"

"Yes your highness," the guard said and excited the castle gates with a team of patrols.

Today Lyra was returning to the rose castle with the cubs.

"You could have rested for some more days here in the lion tribe," the lion queen said as she glanced at the anxious males beside the door. They looked as though they would throw a tantrum if she added any more words.

Then she turned to Lyra, "They are so clingy. Don’t you get tired of them?"

Lyra chuckled at the queen’s words. Then she glanced at her mates and noticed their faces getting brighter as soon as she landed her eyes on them.

"Sometimes I too feel like that" She made sure to lower her voice to not let them hear. Tired? She did occasionally feel overwhelmed by their intense feelings for her. More than that, she was fearful about their over-dependence. All of their thoughts were filled with nothing but her...not even about themselves.

They did not care about themselves and Lyra was very much against it. Yes, she cared about them but she made sure to care about herself too. Sometimes she wondered why they didn’t understand her point of view. Their well-being mattered as much as hers mattered to them. She would also not be able to live on if anything happened to them, so she hoped that they would realize this one day.

She came out of her thoughts and looked at the lion queen, "I love them as much as they love me, so I guess it is alright"

The lion queen’s face mellowed hearing her words, "I’m glad that my son met a female like you"

Before Lyra could answer, Victor hurried inside the room and picked Lyra up, "I will take you back before you change your mind"

"I will not change my mind," Lyra said as she encircled her arms around his neck.

"Not you....." He murmured before glaring at the lion queen. Victor heard this woman trying to coax his sweet girl to stay back and that made him displeased.

The lion queen smirked and haughtily raised her brows, "What?"

"Victor" Lyra slightly smacked his shoulder as she reprimanded his behavior.

Victor sighed and glanced at the lion queen, "Sorry"

Lyra kissed his cheeks and he looked at her in surprise as she patted his head, "Good boy"
