Chapter 149: Inquiry

FOX TRIBE

Jacob jolted from his place when he heard an earth-shattering sound of debris falling from the entrance of his castle.

He furrowed his brows while looking at the entrance. Then he glanced at the guard beastmen around him, "What is going on?"

They too looked troubled and confused not knowing about the happenings outside the fox castle.

"We don’t know your majesty" they answered meekly making Jacob irritated.

"Then why are you standing here while doing nothing!? Get out and find out what is happening!"

The guard cowered in his place due to the king’s thundering voice. He gave a curt nod and started to walk out until he heard an eerily cold voice coming from the door, "That is not necessary" Jacob looked at the blue-haired intruder with confusion but Kaizer just smiled and continued, "Your tribesmen seemed to have trouble opening the castle gates when I asked politely. So I just helped them by breaking it"

Jacob sensed the disposition of a higher-level beastman as soon Kaizer entered the hall and looked at him warily, "Who are you? How dare you barge inside..." He stopped talking when the stranger threw something in front of him.

It was the same wild tiger tooth chain worn by the fox tribe’s witch master but it was covered with...fresh blood.

Jacob looked up at the stranger with terror and disbelief, "You...What did you do to him?"

"I killed him" Killian replied nonchalantly. He wanted to drop all these pretenses and get his answers as soon as possible.

Kaizer’s calm reply made Jacob stagger in his place. He was still processing the bizarre thing that he heard when he felt his throat being gripped by a dark shadow.

Kaizer observed the fox king from his place as his shadow creature continued to strangle him, "Why are trying to hurt her?"

He felt both curious and angry at the same time from the beginning. ’Why was someone even trying to harm her?’ Females are precious in the beast world and he didn’t understand the fox king’s motive in sending a powerful witch master to harm her.

Kaizer also knew about his bunny having some mystical powers and he for some time guessed that those powers might be the reason for being targeted. He couldn’t help but admit that she was careless while revealing that secret in front of him so easily. It was alright that he was the one to learn that time, but what if someone with ulterior motives saw her using those healing powers?

That power was not something used in combat and was too risky for a female to have. Some sick bastards might think that they can get hold of both the beautiful her and those powers if they capture her and Kaizer felt uncomfortable by the mere thought of that.

Then he looked at the fox king in front of him, "Are you not going to answer?"

The fox beastmen around them fidgeted in their place. They wanted to come and help their king but the oppressing aura of the other beastman made them unable to move from their place.

The fox king struggled to remove the shadow’s hand around his throat but his struggle turned futile. He was utterly confused about why even this rootless beastman was attacking him in the first place.

"I do-don’t understand.....I’m not trying to hurt...."

"LYRA!" Kaizer cut his words and exclaimed. His amethyst-colored eyes turned frenzied with overflowing outrage. The ground beneath them started to shake and debris fell from the castle walls.

The fox beastmen guarding the castle sank to the ground because they were too powerless in front of higher-level beast pressure emitted from Kaizer.

"Your lapdog went to the lion tribe today to kill her and you still don’t know? Tell me your reason for trying to hurt her or the beast city will have only your tribe’s remains to recall that your tribe even existed"

After breastfeeding the cubs, Lyra put them to sleep beside her while Noah went out to get some food for her to eat.

"Can we come inside?" The hesitant voice of Victor rang outside the room and Lyra couldn’t help but smile.

"Come in...." She just finished telling that and the anxious males barged inside the room one after another.

Killian stopped in his tracks and breathed out a relief after looking at his mate’s smiling face. Looking at her calm face now after hearing her previous anguish-filled screams felt like a cool breeze on a hot summer day.

"Sweet girl...." Victor whimpered and looked at her with bloodshot eyes. Lyra smiled at him and said, "I’m fine honey"

That’s it, the tears that he was trying to hold streamed down his cheeks as soon as he heard her voice. He rushed towards her and embraced her gently to not cause her any discomfort or pain. He wanted to hold her tightly in his arms but seeing her feebleness, he didn’t dare to do that.

Demir too moved from his place and walked to her. He bent down to kiss the top of her head, "How are you feeling now sunshine?" He too wanted to hug her but Victor looked like he had no intention of letting her go.

Lyra caressed Demir’s face with her free hand and giggled when he leaned against her palm like an adorable puppy. Then she glanced at Killian and Lucas, "I’m really fine"

Killian looked like he wanted to come to her but he couldn’t and Lucas...looked lost in his own world while staring at her face.

She pursed her lips feeling troubled. Lyra felt like she could understand and handle the newborn cubs better than these grown men.

She parted her lips to say something but Noah entered the room while holding a stone bowl filled with piquing hot soup.

Killian tore his eyes away from his mate’s face and turned to Noah. He snatched the stone bowl from Noah’s hand before walking toward the bed. Then he pushed Demir aside with his free hand and peeled Victor out of Lyra’s embrace.

Lyra observed as he sat beside her and held the soup-filled spoon against her lips after blowing on it.

He gestured for her to drink and smiled subtly when his mate obediently parted her lips.

Killian was trying his best to not break down in front of her. He wanted to look strong and reliable, unlike others.

Lyra who could almost read his thoughts stifled her laugh and continued to drink the soup. She didn’t want to worry them by saying this, but Lyra felt too exhausted. Her lower body ached and her throat was sour due to all that screaming. But with only a single glance at her babies, all her pain vanished in a thin air bringing out a contented smile on her lips.

Lyra was still lost in her thoughts when she felt warm lips against her own.

She blinked her eyes dazed as he pulled away from her and continued to feed her like he did not just kiss her on the lips.

"You....." Victor looked at the sly black panther in front of him in disbelief.

Demir’s face turned dark and Noah turned away. Lucas who did not react until now strode towards them and pulled Killian away from her.

Killian glared at the latter but did not resist because he felt sorry for Lucas. That wolf was so silent from the moment Lyra went into labor and Killian decided to be a bigger person and remained calm.

Lyra was stunned when Lucas pulled Killian from her. She always avoided intimacy with one person when everyone was around because that did not only make her uncomfortable but her mates too felt jealous and irritated.

She meekly glanced at Demir, Victor, Noah, and last at Lucas. Their displeasure was written all over their face making her sigh.

Lyra’s biggest fear was her mates fighting each other because of her. They are powerful men who are well regarded by their respective tribes and she didn’t want them to fight just because of a woman. That scenario would be the worst to experience for her and she never wanted that to happen.

Killian handed the stone bowl to Lucas and Lyra finished it after a few more sips. She felt another pair of eyes on her from a certain direction and turned there to find a pair of emerald green eyes staring back at her.

Lyra’s heart ached seeing his forlorn face. ’Ah....only now did she realize how much she missed this man, "Blake?"

Blake glanced at all others in the room before walking toward her. Lucas mindfully got up from his place because he could see the suppressed anger inside that snake’s eyes. He felt guilty for not informing him sooner about Lyra going into labor.

"Lilly....." His hoarse voice made Lyra sad. Only he was not there with her and she could understand how he must be feeling.
