It’s Been a While-ish
The first phase of the college entrance examination, mainly, the written exam, was to occur within all the high schools deemed eligible to take the examination.
Each school had a large examination hall dedicated to this purpose, and there would be an external supervisor to ensure sent to each school to ensure that there was no shady business going on between the students and teachers. Things like them giving the students answers or allowing them to take in cheats without punishment. Stuff like that.
The exam would only take a day, but every student will be writing a paper with a maximum of 3 hours to complete the theory and objective sections, with three papers per person. So, adding breaks, which were one-hour intervals between each paper, the exam would take a maximum of 11 hours.
There will be a day to act as a buffer before the practical exam happens, and for that, all participating schools will take it in the same place. When it ends, the final scores for both exams will be released for all to see.
Osho sighed as he walked through the school gates. It had been over a month since he had last been there, and he hadn’t been slacking at all.
’Osho. Why come here again? Why not write exam at home?’ Gale hovered, yes, hovered beside Osho’s head and asked him through their bond curiously.
’Well, there are a few reasons. But mostly because writing an exam as important as this at home makes it easy for people to cheat.’ Osho explained as he casually strolled through the gates, Mrs Jane trailing behind him like a phantom.
’But you don’t cheat.’ Gale said with confusion.
’Uh, yeah, at least not to this specific scenario.’ Osho chuckled as he thought about his ability.
’But anyway. I may not cheat, but the same doesn’t apply to others. So to ensure no one cheats, they make us all write in the same area so they can supervise us.’ Gale went silent, and Osho quickly realized the bird was struggling to keep up with his vocabulary. However, he quickly got it.
’Oh! So like, even if not everyone cheats, some will cheat, so they make sure no one cheats.’ He said, and Osho chuckled.
’Basically.’
The two of them kept on conversing as they made their way to the exam hall, which was an expansive building off to the side of the school.
Well, it wasn’t JUST an exam hall. It’s also where the school held most of its events, like prom (which he didn’t attend), seminars, assemblies, and so on. It generally just got called the auditorium even though it wasn’t an auditorium, but the school couldn’t be bothered to correct the students, and whenever it was time for an exam, it was referred to as the exam hall.
It was still quite early as the exam was meant to take place by 8 a.m., and it was currently 6:30. As such, the school was relatively empty, but there were already a few students mulling about, each of them seeming to do some last-minute cramming.
Osho knew that doing such a thing was a pointless venture for someone like him, so he didn’t even bother.
"I’m going to meet the principal, so just find somewhere to settle for a while." Mrs Jane told him and made her way to the administrative building while Osho just shrugged and found a spot to chill with Gale.
There was a patch of soft grass where he decided to sit cross-legged, and Gale perched himself on his lap while Osho closed his eyes and started meditating. As he began, he couldn’t help but marvel at how easy it was to circulate his Mana now.
Before, it was like circulating black tar, which was thick and hard to move. It was like he was circulating water. The process was smoother and faster with greater returns. He knew this was due to the training he did and the harsh conditions he was constantly forced to endure for its duration. Back then, forget it being like moving tar. It was like trying to move a cinder block through his veins like liquid.
The progress was extremely slow due to the restrictions imposed on him. But he managed to get used to it in the end, and when such restrictions were lifted, it was as though he was floating.
Also, he is still wearing the jumpsuit. So his senses and mana are still suppressed to a certain degree. Meaning that he isn’t even functioning at maximum capacity, but he barely noticed at this point.
He kept at it for a while and just basked in the feeling of the Mana moving through his body and just let himself enjoy the process for a while.
Eventually, though, he immediately locked onto a few figures approaching him via his Mana sense, causing him to stop his cultivation and open his eyes. As soon as he did, a small smile tugged at his lips as he saw the people approaching.
’Ellie!’ Gale exclaimed through their bond and basically vanished from Osho’s lap as he appeared next to Ellie and started flying around her happily.
"Well, someone’s missed you," Osho smirked and got up to observe the group. Ellie, Irene, Sam, and Kurt.
"Why are you wearing a jumpsuit?" Irene spoke first with a strange look on her face, and Osho just shrugged.
"Training." He answered flatly, and everyone other than Ellie stared at him strangely.
Kurt was about to comment when Ellie went up to him and gave him a quick kiss on the lips, causing the other three to gasp in disbelief.
"No way..."
"They actually did it..."
"It’s about damn time!"
Hearing the exclamations, Osho and Ellie faced the two of them with Osho rolling his eyes.
"What?" Sam clicked her tongue.
"Don’t play dumb! You know damn well why we are surprised. Even if not everyone in our grade knows you, pretty much everyone has been speculating on when the two of you would get together! Several bets have even been placed on it. And then you just come in one day and reveal that you finally decided to get together. We aren’t in the relationship, but goodness, we were feeling frustrated FOR you." She ranted, and Osho couldn’t help but force out a cough. He couldn’t help but agree that it was probably extremely frustrating from an outsider’s point of view. Maybe even from the inside, considering that Ellie had essentially been talking to a brick wall this entire time.
Sam went on a tangent for a while longer before Irene cut in.
"Okay, okay. Point taken." She then sized up Osho before turning her attention to Gale, and then at Sugil, who was wrapped around Ellie’s neck, and then at Osho again, then she remarked.
"Say, you wouldn’t happen to have more of those tonics of yours lying around, would you?" The question made Osho scoff. But in hindsight, it made sense. Ellie had no way of hiding Sugil’s wings, and even without the markings, Gale looked quite a bit different from the last time the group saw him. Chances were that Ellie had told them about the ’tonics’ he was able to make and how they seemed pretty effective.
Still, it’s not like it was cheap.
"Give me money first." He snorted.
"Huh? But you helped Ellie with Sugil for free!" Kurt countered.
"She gave me money before, so I owed her." Osho shrugged. At this, the three of them looked at him weirdly.
"Taking money from your girlfriend?" Kurt remarked, and Osho raised a brow.
"The hell is that supposed to mean? Can’t I ask her for money if I need it?" He asked rhetorically, but Sam said teasingly.
"No, no. It’s just, the less privileged boy asking his rich girlfriend for cash. Some people might interpret that wrongly, you know?" Hearing this, Osho just stared at them blankly.
"Uh, okay? If they have more time to pay attention to the relationships of others and not themselves, then they are just sad kids that have limited love from their parents. It’s my relationship, not there’s, why should I give a damn about their opinions?" Osho’s words took the three of them by surprise.
They half expected him to indeed give a noncommittal response to indicate his lack of care for the opinion of others, but the sheer disdain in his voice as he spoke was new to them.
Meanwhile, Ellie just looked happy to be there.
The group continued chatting for a while, and one might wonder why they weren’t revising questions in preparation for the exam, and truthfully, none of them saw any point.
Cramming just didn’t work for Osho. Moreover, he didn’t think there was any amount of going over he could do to change the final result. Many might disagree with this sentiment, but that’s just what he thought.
Ellie believed in allowing her brain to settle as much as possible before writing any exam. She’d studied deep into the night before she finally slept, and she believed that allowing her brain to calm down as much as possible before writing did more than revising just hours before the paper started, which worked for her.
As for the others, well, they were just confident.
