Beast-Tamer: Limitless Evolution
Chapter 77: I Am Indeed a Dense MF

Chapter 77: I Am Indeed a Dense MF

I Am Indeed a Dense MF

"I was put for two weeks, huh?" Osho mumbled at the information. Not long after he woke up, the doctor, Mrs Jane, Major Thompson, and the Citadel Lord who owned the old voice he detected before came into the room.

They’d given him a brief rundown of what happened when he lost consciousness, and to summarize it, after the Harbinger died, the beasts stopped attacking. A large number of them died due to the backlash wrought by the effects of the Harbinger’s ability, and the rest retreated. They spent the remainder of that time doing damage control.

Thankfully, the walls hadn’t been broken through, but that didn’t mean there were no damages either. There had been a large loss of resources and it would take a while to fully recuperate. But most of all, the casualties were quite significant. A 9,000 soldiers and 4,000 volunteer beast tamers which was a jarring amount if Osho was being honest.

The Black Rock Chain where the Harbinger had emerged from was also undergoing some serious investigations, and all mining activity would be ceased for an indeterminate amount of time. Well, even if that wasn’t the case, the thing had destroyed nearly all their equipment there, so they couldn’t resume mining activities even if they wanted to.

There was a mass funeral the week before, and the occasion was quite solemn.

On a positive note the number of beast corpses they managed to get increased their overall resources by a great deal, so they acquired far more materials in these couple of days than they had in the past few months. Not to mention the number of rare resources gotten from beasts they normally couldn’t hunt easily.

It was a hard-fought battle, and the losses were heavy, but at least they got something out of it, and to Osho’s relief, they hadn’t told anyone about his contributions to the final battle, which saved him from having to deal with a lot of unwanted attention. He had no doubts that the more renowned members of society knew about his contributions, like Ellie’s father, but that was a lot better than everyone knowing about what he did.

He’d have to live in his room, which didn’t sound all too bad, but he wouldn’t be able to train properly either... Miscellaneous thoughts.

Next came something that bugged him a little bit: the college entrance exam. By his calculations, he should only have a few days before it began, and he was not in any condition to take it as he was.

Luckily, the Citadel Lord explained that their plight was understood, so the college entrance exam as well as other significant ventures that were meant to take place had been pushed back by a decent time, the exam being pushed back by a month.

That didn’t mean the colleges would hold back their academic years by a month, just that the door would still be open for the candidates from the Blossom Citadel even after other Citadels had sent their candidates earlier.

In fact, Mrs Jane explained that this wasn’t a unique situation, and that Citadels get attacked pretty frequently, some worse than others. As such, they were given a bit of grace whenever something like this happened.

Granted, the situation with the Harbinger was beyond abnormal, and the reinforcements that arrived from a more powerful Citadel were slowly investigating it and its origins while relating what they found to where they came from.

Then came the matter of his and Gale’s coma (the bird woke up too), and Alex couldn’t come up with a good reason for why it happened. His wounds were nowhere near severe enough to leave him out cold for that long, and while he’d been low on Mana, it wasn’t to a dangerous level.

As such, the running theory was that the strengthening of their bond was too rapid, so their bodies needed time to acclimate to their new bond.

It sounded plausible, mostly because the strength of their bond was above what their ranks indicated. For starters, Osho didn’t need Gale to relay what he saw to him through the bond and could straight up just look through his eyes if he wanted to. Moreover, their ability to send each other’s thoughts had evolved past that as they always knew what the other person was thinking at all times without them consciously needing to transmit the thought to the other.

It was a surreal experience, especially when Osho could always just know what Gale was thinking, and his thoughts seemed to revolve around food, flying, and being close to Osho.

This wasn’t that surprising as Osho noticed the two of them were on IV drips that fed them via Parenteral Nutrition that sent the nutrients directly into their bloodstream. While it was enough to keep them healthy, real food was certainly a desire. Flying was out of the question, but right now Osho held Gale in his hands and constantly stroked his feathers gently, the bird very much enjoying the attention judging by the happy trills he let out.

Anyway, while the theory the doctor had seemed viable Osho was pretty certain it was wrong. Why? Because when he woke up, he was startled when his vision was assaulted by dozens of translucent ribbons floating in the air.

It took him a moment to realize that the ribbons were a result of his unique ability, and the change was jarring because he realized that every beast that wasn’t in a beast space had these ribbons attached to them and went out to wherever the materials required to evolve them were.

In short, Osho no longer needed to exert his mental energy to find where the materials needed to evolve a beast were. Moreover, he now just kinda... knew what the names of the materials were, and he didn’t need to find out the name first before picking it out, and just could.

The reason for this? Well, it was due to the strengthening of the bond, but that wasn’t the direct reason. Remember that the stronger the bond between the beast and tamer, the easier it would be for the tamer to draw out a portion of the beast’s abilities to use themselves. This included the quality of Mana as well.

Osho sensed that he had reached some invisible threshold and went over it when his bond with Gale experienced that rapid moment of strengthening, allowing his ability to reach the next stage.

How did he know this? He had no idea. He just did.

Now, the next thing that caught his attention.

’I am the densest individual in the world. Two worlds even.’ He thought with a sigh as he recalled what had happened moments before he woke up.

Not only had Ellie flat out said he’d make a good husband and she’d like to come home to see him cooking for her. She’d kissed him!

Not on the cheeks, not on his forehead, but on his LIPS!

When she did, it was as though so many hidden pieces had fallen into place, and everything suddenly made sense.

He’d found her to be more affectionate with him than what most people considered friendly, but she’d always been like that since they were kids, both in his past life and in this one, so he believed that’s just how she was naturally.

But now he understood just how idiotic he truly was, and just how true those random shouts about how dense he was from his peers were, because he truly was irrevocably dense.

But then again, you couldn’t entirely blame him, he was more clueless about things like romance and signals than magic, and that was saying a lot.

But at the same time, he wasn’t unaware of his own feelings. If you asked him if he liked her, he’d say yes every time. He liked her and knew he liked her, but he had no idea if she liked him back. That’s why he was so determined to learn how to cook and why he was so good at it.

As for the times where he very directly avoided her attempts at throwing herself at him, well, to put it simply, he never knew what to do whenever she held him like that.

He enjoyed her hugging him, but his mind always went to weird places whenever she did, and he was afraid of touching her in a way that would cause her to pull back, so he generally avoided having her hug him in the first place.

To summarize it, his feelings were a mess, and he had no idea how to sort them property.

’One step at a time.’ He thought as he continued to pet Gale. The bird was acutely aware of his turbulent feelings, but he seemed considerate enough to not try and make him feel weird about it.

There was also the possibility Gale just didn’t know what love was so he couldn’t be bothered to figure out Osho’s feelings.

Besides, no matter how turbulent, it’s not like he felt bad. Stupid, sure, but otherwise, he was over the moon.
