First Exercise III
Everyone crouched as soon as they got the message, and Osho instructed Gale to stop flying and instead take perch on a branch that allowed the bird to continue watching the target while staying out of sight.
[Kurt, is Clyde hearing anything?] He asked through the watch.
[Yeah, from what I’m getting, it’s a little over half a kilometer ahead. What else does your beast say?] At this, Osho closed his eyes.
It took some effort, but he was able to get Gale to show him what he saw through their bond. He’d believed it possible before, but this was the first time he’d tried.
To his surprise, the image was surprisingly clear, with a lot more detail than he’d initially expected. But it made sense, considering that Hawks possessed great vision, something made even greater considering that Gale wasn’t an ordinary hawk.
Moving on, he observed the image and was surprised to see that the beast was a large brown bear. However, it was twice the size of a regular brown bear, and it had a white streak across its back.
It was missing an eye, three scars prevalent where it once was, and its body could only be described as a tank of fur and muscle.
It was currently eating a deer-like beast seemingly unperturbed by everything around it.
[Kurt, write down these details.] Osho instructed as he had Gale continue to feed him images. He was half tempted to have them stay like that and just observe what they could, but he had a feeling Mrs. Jane wouldn’t be satisfied with the approach, so for now, he would only get some information about Gale’s spying before they moved closer.
From what he could see, the bear was at least 9.8 feet tall while on all fours which would translate to 19.6 feet when standing on its hind legs. So it was literally just double the size of an average brown bear.
Moreover, he could see a brown Aura around its body, indicating a possible earth Affinity, and that Aura had a bright green undertone, meaning it was near the peak of the Apprentice rank.
Osho relayed all this information to Kurt who wrote it down as well as the rest of the team.
After that, he gestured for them to proceed forward slowly.
They kept low to the ground and Osho had Gale watch to see if the bear would suddenly react to their presence, but so far, nothing happened.
Eventually, they got close enough to see the bear themselves, and it was quite intimidating up close.
Its Aura made the surrounding air heavier, and breathing became a bit difficult. Sam, Kurt, and Irene paled a bit at the sight of the massive monster, but they managed to remain silent.
As of current, they were in a bush, silently watching.
Ellie instructed Kurt to use his goggles and zoom into the beast to observe its habits, the others were to do the same, and they’d share whatever information they gathered and have Kurt write down any useful information.
It was uncertain if the bear had noticed them, they were about 130 meters (426.509 feet) away from it. But if it had, it either didn’t care or was just waiting for them to get closer, something none of them had no desire of doing.
Like this, time slowly passed.
Almost an hour elapsed when the bear finished with its meal, and by then, the group had gotten the required information from it. They managed to calculate its weight using its size and a calculator function the watches possessed, the strength of its bite force in proportion to how easily it bit through the bone of the deer, a vague and possibly incorrect analysis of its perception abilities, and so on.
Once the bear was done, it grunted, turned away, and walked deeper into the forest.
The group stayed still until it was out of sight, and as soon as Gale confirmed it was far away, they all breathed a collective sigh of relief.
[That was unnerving.] Ellie communicated and they all nodded in agreement. None of them had confidence in taking on such a behemoth, except maybe Osho, it was just too intimidating.
[Well, sorry but we need to do it 4 more times.] Osho poured a bucket of cold water and they nearly failed to resist groaning in frustration.
They picked themselves up and continued their exploration, but not even ten minutes passed when Osho suddenly dropped to the ground and everyone followed suit unconsciously. Before they could ask what happened, the ground shook slightly, followed by a powerful roar that shook everyone to their core. They all watched as a massive gorilla jumped from tree to tree, the massive lifeforms bending under its weight as it was being followed by another smaller group of gorillas.
They waited until the coast was clear before they all let out breaths they didn’t know they were holding. Now that had been terrifying.

"How is it? Is the product to your liking?" In a dark cave, a voice spoke. It was quite casual, like it was talking about some mundane item, like a television, or something similar.
"... It is satisfactory." However, the voice following it was anything but casual. The best way to describe it was like glass constantly shattering in a way that made a voice. It was chilling and downright uncomfortable.
"Tch. Just satisfactory huh? Well, I guess that will do." The casual voice clicked its tongue before pausing.
"So do I still get my bonus in that case?" Hearing this, the other voice spoke, slightly tinged with annoyance.
"If you want a bonus then do a good job. Stop asking for one with everything you do." The first voice groaned.
"Come on! I did well this time. Look, not only is it hard to kill, but it’s capable of leading a beast tide large enough to wipe out an entire Citadel. That’s bound to stand for something right? I put a lot of effort this time! I at LEAST deserve a bonus." They spoke with a tone that suggested they weren’t budging and the second voice inhaled much in the way one woukd when a child was talking nonsense but you couldn’t hit them for one reason or the other.
"Fine, I will relay your request for a ’bonus’ to the lord. For now, just take your initial remuneration and give me the control item." The second voice relented and the first chuckled.
"Great! I knew I could rely on you! See, life is so much easier without arguments, just be agreeable and everyone will like you, even with that grating voice of yours." They said and there was a sound akin to someone patting the shoulder of another.
"Just give me the damn control!" The second voice snapped and the first laughed.
"Sheesh, so uptight. But fine, here’s the control." They drawled and handed them something in the darkness.
"Hmph. By the way, what is the progress on the other things?" The second voice asked, their tone tinged with a hint of curiosity.
"Ah! I hoped you would ask!" The first voice giggled like a child.
"I’ve been hard at work, and I must say. They are developing nicely. In just a few months they will all be fully matured. Not just that, but their potential will be incredible." They said with unmasked enthusiasm before sighing.
"We should come to underdeveloped worlds like this more often, how long has it been since I was able to act so unrestrained without the influence of anyone?" Hearing this, the second voice snorted.
"And it’s precisely that reason you can’t go out in the day time. They may be underdeveloped, but they’ve managed to thrive in this grand scene for so long. You can’t underestimate them." The first voice groaned.
"I’m telling you. I got jumped! If it was one on one they wouldn’t have stood a chance. I doubt you’d have escaped unscathed either. Besides, it’s not like we’re remaining stagnant as they develop. The more they develop, the more we follow along and the more things we can gain. We just need to be careful." They spoke in their defense.
"And ARE you careful?" The second voice retorted
"That’s why you’re here. Anyway, you wanna see?" The first voice said, wholly unbothered.
There was a snort, but the curiosity of the second voice was palpable.
"I’ll take that as a yes." The first voice chuckled and lightly knocked on an unassuming part of the cave wall, one wouldn’t be able to tell a difference between it and every other part of the cave, even with Mana.
Despite this, the ’wall’ Suddenly sunk inwards before sliding out of the way like an automatic door, and once it did, light poured through the opening which revealed the figures of the two beings.
The first was a man whose handsomeness could only be described as out of this world. His skin was pale and he had long green hair that had been braided, his eyes holding a similar emerald color.
But the most interesting thing were his ears. They were long and pointed, like that of an elf.
The second being seemed to be humanoid and male, but they were completely covered in a black suit with black gloves and a black mask, with their neck and had being covered by some material, not letting even the smallest bit of skin show.
They walked into the now revealed room to a metallic balcony overlooking a vast space, and when the mask person saw what was below, they couldn’t help but grunt in acknowledgement.
"... Maybe you do deserve a bonus." They mumbled and the elf turned to him with twinkling eyes.
"See? I told you." He chuckled. As for what was being displayed. There were hundreds of large black eggs, each of them pulsing with life.
