Chapter 70: Taking him home?

VALENCIA’S POV

After calming my head for some time, which included eating a lot of my favorite food, I was about to leave for my lecture with Aiden when I saw him swinging his backpack on his shoulders, and I realized something.

My backpack wasn’t with me.

It was with Shadow!!

And my phone was there too! The wolfsbane, the daggers laced in poison, everything was there.

What the -?! How the hell did I make this mistake?

I quickly stood from my seat, making the chair fall back, catching my friend’s attention immediately.

"What is it?" Henry asked, and I shook my head.

"I just remembered that I left my backpack in Mr. Shadow’s cabin. I will be back," I said to Aiden before rushing to the place as fast as I could.

As soon as I reached the door, I took a deep breath, preparing myself for all kinds of reactions from Shadow if he looked into my backpack or something.

I knocked on the door, and it wasn’t long before the man’s voice came.

"Come in," he said, and I opened the door softly, peeking inside.

"I actually, forgot my backpack," I asked, and Shadow looked up from the pile of assignment sheets before humming.

He didn’t say anything to me, and I pressed my lips into a thin line.

Was he alright? It was strange seeing him so unreactive.

"Do you need my help?" I asked, and Shadow looked at me before sighing and leaning back in his seat.

"Honestly, I want to apologize to you," he said, and I froze in my place.

An apology? For what? Did he go through my stuff?

"F-for?" I stuttered involuntarily, cursing myself for acting like this.

"For earlier. I am sorry if I made you uncomfortable. It was wrong of me. I am sure you must be thinking I am deliberately making your life hard," Shadow said with genuine sincerity in his eyes.

And rather than feeling happy like I should’ve been, I was feeling even worse than before.

What did he mean by that?

He was sorry for the kiss? Does that mean he regrets it now?

As much as I hated being taken advantage of, hearing it from the person who did it was still a bad feeling and I nodded.

I was about to pick up my backpack and leave when he started speaking again.

"I don’t regret the kiss though. I am sorry for asking for it. However, I don’t regret it. I am apologizing for getting you into trouble with the dean and the HOD, that’s it," he said, and I looked into his eyes.

He was starting to become a mystery to me. There was no lie about it.

It has never been so hard for me to read a person like it was becoming for him.

He was like that Labrinth puzzle in which I was feeling lost, and the more I was walking into it, the more I was losing my mind.

Yes. I would call it losing my mind because there was no way it was okay to feel bad for him and want to hug him even when I was the victim here.

"Okay," I said, unsure of what to say anymore.

"Let me treat you to dinner," Shadow said, and I looked at him with wide eyes.

"Are you feeling unwell?" I asked him, and he rolled his eyes at me.

"Actually, I am feeling quite unwell after that kiss. Mind checking what is wrong with me?* He asked before he unbuttoned his shirt slowly.

I looked at him with wide eyes.

This guy seriously had little to no shame.

"I am not free tomorrow," I said, and he grinned.

"Tonight, it is. Help me with these assignment sheets while you are at it," he said, and I narrowed my eyes on him.

"Did you just make me walk into a trap after just apologizing?" I asked, and he chuckled, his contagious smile, making me smile again.

That’s how I liked him. Smiling. Not frowning like earlier.

’I don’t know if this is a good idea anymore,’ I said to Aurora, who just like always, rather than supporting me, scoffed at me.

’Well, who was the one who told him that you didn’t want to be seen with him in any fancy restaurant? You can’t take his pack to his house, and you definitely can’t go to a hotel with him. This is the only way,’ Aurora said, and I hummed.

Well, why was I really worried about it? Carl would be at home with me and Shadow. So it’s not like he can kill me and bury my body in the woods.

Yes. There is no issue with inviting him to my lake house.

I walked ahead while Shadow was following me, making me feel even more conscious.

"Why do you go through this path? If we choose this path, we will reach faster," Shadow suddenly said, and I froze in my place.

He bumped into me, making me turn around and look at him suspiciously.

"How do you know which path is a better route for my home?" I asked, watching his eyes carefully to see if there would be any flicker of emotions.

However, he just rolled his eyes at me.

"You call your home lake house. That’s why I just thought it would be near a Lake. Am I wrong?" He asked, and I narrowed my brows.

I was about to tell him that I take the bigger path to protect myself from encountering their pack members but before I could do that, my phone vibrated.

"There it is," I pointed at my house before pulling out my phone.

Hmm? Carl? Why was Carl calling me now? This reminds me that he did not come to the University to ask for leave on his behalf either.

I picked up the call and placed the phone near my ears as I watched Shadow walking towards the door of my house.

He pulled out the door before looking at me. The door was locked?

"Here!" I threw the keys at him.

"Hey, Valencia, I am so sorry to tell you this on such short notice but I don’t think I will be able to make it tonight. The meeting was extended, and we had another after meeting with this group of investors that I can’t deny. Don’t let anyone enter your house and keep the doors locked, okay?" Carl said as I watched Shadow entering my house.

A self-mocking smile appeared on my face while looking at my situation.

"Especially, be wary of boys around you. You know not to allow a boy when I am not there, right? If Dylan finds out, he will beat both of us to a pulp," Carl said, and I chuckled.

I chuckled so badly that tears started to appear in my eyes.

"Hello, Valencia? Are you okay?" Carl asked, and I nodded.

"Yes, I just watched a really funny scene in front of me and couldn’t keep myself from laughing," I said, making Carl chuckle.

"Order some food and take care of your health. Sleep early," Carl said before ending the call while I looked at my house which was strangely looking quite small today.
