Chapter 47: Sealing the deal with a kiss
Chapter 47: Sealing the deal with a kiss
VALENCIA’S POV
"You said you are grateful to me for saving your life, and as you can see, with the kind of boring life I am living, I don’t really have any friends. So be my friend," Shadow said, explaining a little this time.
I stood there, looking at him as if he had grown two heads, waiting for him to tell me that he was joking.
However, when he didn’t, I didn’t know what to say.
The genuineness in his eyes, as if every word he said about not having a friend was true, made my heart melt.
Why? Because I could feel and see myself in him for a second.
There was this one time when I was in need of friends too. Honestly, I am in need of genuine friends now too, the kind of friends with whom I can share my darkest secrets and identity.
Though I had human friends, it wasn’t the same with them. I had too many secrets from them.
And with Dylan and Carl, though they are my friends too, I can’t really tell them everything because they get worried easily.
I want the kind of friend who would go bungee jumping with me rather than telling me how scary it was, the kind of friend who would explore the world with me rather than telling me how hectic it was.
For me, this ’friend’ word was such a precious emotion, and I have placed so many expectations on it that the thought of someone ruining it makes my heart ache, let alone letting someone close enough to me to allow that.
I made a mistake once. I wasn’t ready to make the same mistake twice.
"Don’t joke around with this word, Shadow. This word holds a great meaning in my dictionary. Do you think you and I can be friends when your alpha might want my blood soon?
You already said earlier. One of us is always a predator and the other one is a prey, and I don’t think anything won’t change that," I sighed, wanting to move.
However, his hands kept me in his place.
His grip tightened on my fingers as if he was making some silent promise about not letting go ever.
He leaned into me, his body pressing hard against mine, looking me dead in the eyes with a genuine smile.
"Don’t worry. The alpha won’t touch you until I say so. Your safety is my responsibility from now on if you become my friend. You won’t regret it at least. I promise," Shadow said.
"And regarding the importance of this word, it’s good we both give the same importance to the emotions behind it and this relationship," He added, his intoxicating scent strangely calming my heart.
I took a deep breath. I wanted some time to think over it. It wasn’t something that I could decide impulsively. This was a member of the Dark Callisto pack we were talking about.
’Do it,’ Aurora said, and I looked at her with furrowed brows.
’You realize this is a risky game you are asking me to play, right? What if he turns out just like everyone and betrays us? Will we be able to take another heartbreak from a best friend?’ I asked her, my mind replaying all those sad memories, and she hummed.
’Just trust me on this one,’ She said.
Just trust me.
Just trust me.
Shadow’s and Aurora’s words echoed in my head, and I bit my lips before nodding.
"Fine. Let’s be friends," I said, and he smiled, a genuine smile that I hadn’t seen on his face.
And my god did he look so enchanting in this moment. My pupils dilated at his beauty before I averted my gaze, not wanting to look like a creep gawking at him.
"Good," he said before he leaned and kissed the corner of my mouth, making me look at him dumbfounded.
"Yo! What the hell?" I asked.
"Sealing the friendship," He winked at me before leaving, and I stood there, unsure of what just happened.
"What the hell just happened?" I looked at my reflection in the pillar in disbelief.
’What do you mean what happened? We just had our first kiss. We shared our first kiss. Hehe,’ Aurora smiled, and I couldn’t help but glare at her.
"That wasn’t a kiss! Stop making it one," I hissed.
’Is that so? Didn’t his lips touch our face? Where did his lips touch us? As far as I remember the language, I think that’s called kissing either way. Even if it’s a peck, it’s a kiss either way,’ Aurora said, boiling my blood even more with her words.
She really had a death wish to comment on something like that. And I swear Shadow had an even bigger death wish.
What kind of friendship seal was this? Was this some new technique in the market that I didn’t know of?
And why the hell am I not able to push him out of my head? Why do his thoughts and his genuine smile keep appearing in my mind again and again?! I am supposed to hate him!
Wait, now that he is my friend, how do I hate him? Does that mean I dug a hole for myself?
With an inward growl, I walked out of the area where Shadow had taken me to hide from the public view.
"Valencia, god where have you gone?" Aiden asked, and I smiled bitterly before looking at my phone as I got the message from the management of the money that was wired into my account.
This rich son of a good mother! I can’t believe this man for real?! He came here, became the highest bidder ever for my painting, sealed the deal of friendship with a kiss, and left just like that?
’You are atrociously angry for someone who earned $5000 more than her expectations,’ Aurora teased me, and I gritted my teeth.
"I just went to talk to someone over the call. The money is wired to me already. I guess I can send the monthly installment to the orphanage," I whispered to myself.
I was about to send the amount when I decided I would rather do it when I am calmer, not wanting to let this moment dim my happiness.
"Let’s go,"
We walked out of the area, and I was about to sit inside Aiden’s car when I saw the man standing on the other side of the road, wearing his shades, his lean body leaning on the car’s hood, and I swear he was standing like that to allure...
Wait. Wasn’t this the same car that I thought was following us? He was indeed following me
"What are you waiting for?" Aiden asked, and I glared at the man one last time before getting into the car.
As soon as I got inside, my phone pinged with an incoming message, and I furrowed my brow at the unknown number.
"Let’s change this system," the message said. I checked the number again and noticed it was a private number.
As if my day wasn’t eventful enough, now I get a message from some creep that I can’t even trace.
"No more getting into the car of another man," The next message came, and I instinctively looked out of the window at Shadow’s car. And was it a mere coincidence that he was looking at me?
"Shadow?" I typed back.
"Shadow? Who is that?" The message said.
"Do you want me to be your shadow?" Another message came, and I quickly deleted the conversation.
What the hell, seriously?
"Are you okay?" Aiden asked, and I nodded, clenching my fist to calm the nervousness in my heart.
