Chapter 45: Painting worth?

Chapter 45: Painting worth?

VALENCIA’S POV

I waited for a few minutes before I sighed and pressed the red button near my bed to call the nurse.

Soon the nurse walked in along with Aiden, who looked at me with confusion etched on his face.

"What’s wrong?" He asked, and I shook my head.

"I need to be somewhere. Besides, I am really fine and don’t need this special treatment anymore," I said before looking at the nurse who looked between me and Aiden hesitantly.

I am sure what she was thinking. What was a wolf like me doing talking with a human as if we were long friends. I scoffed internally.

It wasn’t hard for me to decipher that the werewolf staff working in this hospital was mostly from Alpha Maverick’s pack, and if I wasn’t wrong, they were probably keeping an eye on me too. And the fact alone was enough for me to want to leave this place as soon as possible.

"But miss -" The nurse started.

I rolled my eyes.

"You have no valid reason to keep me here. I wasn’t terribly wounded, which would need me to stay here, and if you force me without any illness it will be considered illegal conduct of your practices just to extort more money from me," I said.

The nurse looked at me dead in the eyes as if in disbelief that I would really say such a thing.

Well, sweetie, you don’t know what exactly I can do and not. You better ask your beta who has to go through this ordeal almost daily. I am a psycho when it comes to things like this.

"Are you removing it?" I asked, motioning towards my IV needle as the plastic bottle was already empty and the nurse hurriedly took it out.

"I will pack my belongings before leaving. You can go," I said.

I know Aiden probably had many questions in his head with the gaze he was throwing my way, but I also knew he wouldn’t ask me any of them.

"So where are we going?" He asked me as he swung my bag over his shoulders.

"We?" I raised my brows at him.

"What? You don’t really expect me to let you roam around freely after you come out of this big incident, do you?" Aiden asked.

"And I can’t talk you out of it either?" I asked and he nodded, making me shake my head helplessly before we walked out of the room.

I went straight to the reception to pay the bill and took out my card, but before I could pay the bill, Aiden slammed his card on the counter.

"Use this one," He said.

I was about to pull his card when he held my hand, intertwining our fingers.

To say I was shocked would be an understatement. I froze in my place at his actions.

Was Shadow right? Was I ruining my friend’s life by giving him the hope of something I won’t ever be able to do?

No. This was wrong. It was true that I had a celebrity crush on Aiden because of how good-looking he was, but it didn’t mean I could allow what was probably going on inside his head.

I can’t do this to him after how good he has been to me.

"Aiden, what are you -" I started to pull my hand out of his grip, but he held tighter.

"Stop acting like I am your boyfriend. I am doing this so that you don’t run away the moment we are out of this place," Aiden said with a straight face.

There was no change in the emotions from around him, and I didn’t hear his heartbeat accelerating either. Maybe he wasn’t lying and that was the actual reason? I rolled my eyes at my overthinking. Sometimes, I really act like I am the heroine or something, who is wanted by everyone.

"You treat me like a kid," I pouted, and he looked at me briefly.

"Because I am not ready to treat you like a woman yet," he smirked.

Seriously? He was the human here! I was the supernatural being. I wasn’t supposed to have my heart skip a beat from something a human said.

What was seriously wrong with me? Was I really sick after this accident?

’Well, it’s nothing compared to how your heart beats when we are with Shadow,’ Aurora grumbled, and I was reminded of the man again.

She was right.

For some reason, he was the only guy who was able to catch me off-guard so many times, bringing the kind of emotions from inside me that I didn’t even know I was capable of.

There was this thing about him that pisses you off and lures you in at the same time.

Wait. That wasn’t the important point. I scowled at Aurora who grinned at me.

This reminds me that I had yet to take revenge on him for what he did to me last night, but before that, I needed to thank him genuinely for saving my life.

Without wasting any more time, I dialed Casper’s number to get the address of the place that I needed to be and noticed that my phone was turned off and the screen was broken.

It must’ve happened during that time. I sighed.

Just added one more expense. I just got it repaired and this again. Uhhh...

"Valencia! Damn it, girl! Where have you been?! I have been calling you for so long. Are you alright now? Please tell me everything is fine and you are not hurt. Angela has been crying ever since," Casper said as soon as he picked up the call.

My heart softened at the thought of so many people worrying about me.

I don’t even remember the last time someone was genuinely worried about me in the last 5 years.

"I am fine. Send me the address of the bidding place. I know you took responsibility and sent my painting already and those people won’t let a scratch appear on it, I just want to see the bidding myself to see what kind of paintings interests people," I said, and Casper sighed before telling me where I needed to go, Aiden listening to my conversation all the while.

"A painting?" He asked as we sat in his car, and I hummed.

"I paint sometimes," I said casually, making him nod as he concentrated on driving.

I looked at the rearview mirror of the car and noticed something was amiss.

Why did it feel like someone was following us? I rolled down the window and looked at the car in the side mirror to see if I could find anything peculiar or familiar with the car.

However, that car took another turn soon, and I sighed in relief. It was probably my paranoia because of what kind of accident I came out of.

What do we call this? PTSD? I scoffed at the fancy name.

We reached the place not long after, and I showed the guard the pass that Casper sent to me as one of the painters.

"Is he with you?" The guards asked, and I looked at Aiden.

Seeing I wasn’t responding, Aiden rolled his eyes at me, and I chuckled.

"Seriously?" He asked me, and I grinned before nodding at the guard, who let him in too.

I went straight to the event hall and sat in the side row in the middle to blend in.

Around 23 paintings were displayed on the stage.

"You paint sometimes? This is f*cking dope," He exclaimed, looking like a kid in the candy store and I smiled at his hyping.

"Which one is yours?" Aiden asked.

I looked at my painting, slightly cringing at the little mistake that I had made, and was too lazy to correct because my hand was wounded.

"You will know," I said and Aiden sighed.

The bidding started soon, and I was amazed at the first painting that was sold for $9000. It was a relatively high price, then again, beauty was in the eye of the beholder.

After around 17 paintings, it was finally the turn of my painting, and I looked around wanting to see if there was anyone really interested in this one.

"This painting is designed by a mysterious designer that has made an influence in the market recently. Let’s start the bidding for his painting," The host said.

I scoffed at how easily these people thought if it was mysterious, it was a man.

"The bidding starts at $12000," the host read the amount I had sent in the official email.

I waited for someone to increase the bid and finally, someone started.

"$12500"

"$13000"

"$14000"

"$15000"

I heard a familiar voice from right beside me, and I turned to look at Aiden.

"Hey! Have you lost your mind? Why would you buy something so expensive? If you want a painting, just ask me. I will draw for you," I hissed at him, and he chuckled.

"But haven’t you drawn this one too?" He asked me, and I looked at him with pursed lips.

Seriously, this guy was insane.

"I know, but it’s for those capitalists and not my friends. You stupid," I whispered in his ears, and was about to ask him to withdraw when no one increased the bid, but before I could say anything I heard the door of the room opening and I smelt it.

I smelt him.

"$20000" His cold voice came, and I froze in my place.
