Chapter 41: Sense of Deja vu

Chapter 41: Sense of Deja vu

VALENCIA’S POV

Boom!

The sound of the explosion nearly shook all our glass equipment, breaking everything made up of glass as the impact nearly threw us backward.

The fire started to engulf the entire storage room.

I could see the red blazing flames spreading across the door that separated the lab from the storage room.

Everything was burning at a rampant speed, the fire consuming everything inside it like the loose soil engulfing someone inside it.

"Quickly! Everyone, move out! We don’t have time!"

I saw Shadow quickly rushing everyone out.

Aiden and the other boys also started to usher the girls out.

The door of the laboratory was narrow.

The windows were broken by the students who were panicking and running around to save themselves from the flames, especially the toxic smoke of the chemicals that were more hazardous than the fire itself.

Luckily, the laboratory was only on the first floor, but it wasn’t easy for everyone to just jump out of the window.

However I saw many boys jumping out towards the ground in the bushes.

It was a situation of panic.

One second everything was alright, and the other second, things were burning all around.

And me? You must be wondering what I was doing in this situation, right? As a supernatural being, I should have assisted Shadow in saving others like he was doing, but I couldn’t.

In fact, I was sitting in the corner of the laboratory. I couldn’t move.

My heart was aching terribly and every cell of my brain was telling me that I needed to be out of here, run out of here if I wanted to survive, but for some reason, I couldn’t move.

My vision was already blurring because of all the smoke and panic in my heart and I knew this was probably the most cowardly moment of my life, I just couldn’t...

But...why did it look like I had seen this scene before? The sense of Deja Vu was hitting me as my brain was finding it hard to cooperate with the changes.

’Valencia, try to come out of it. We both know you are a brave and strong girl. Block all those voices in your head. Just focus on breathing. You can’t lose your consciousness at a time like this. I can’t take over your body even if I turn you into a cat. You need to move yourself. Please, Val. You need to save us,’ I heard Aurora in the background somewhere.

However, everything was dizzy for me. It was almost as if I was sucked into some other reality that had no way out.

’Mom! Mom! We can’t help it. You need to run out of here. I... I don’t think we will be able to hold up for long. Take... Take her away,’ The sound of a man, probably in his early twenties resounded.

I don’t know what it was. I don’t know what was going on.

I just knew wherever I was, it was burning.

’W-what are you saying? I can’t lose you guys. What kind of mother will I be if I leave my son, my daughter-in-law, and my entire family? I won’t be able to live,’ There was some old lady, crying pitifully as she looked around at the burning houses with panic, a panic that was similar to mine.

’Don’t argue Mom! This is not about us! Just f*cling listen to me once. P-please, I beg you,’ The man said again.

The distant screams and cries for help were echoing everywhere.

’Let me see her one last time. I...’ A soft voice said, and my heart ached immediately. It was almost like the voice of an angel. The tug at my heart was unexplainable.

My vision blurred. Her face wasn’t clear. All I knew was that she was looking at a baby, whispering a few things in some language that I didn’t understand either.

’I am sorry,’ She whispered in English before kissing the baby’s forehead. The baby was wrapped in a soft white colored cloth, and I couldn’t see what it looked like.

A drop of her tear fell on the baby’s cheek that the old lady quickly wiped.

’Don’t stop. No matter what happens or who you encounter, Mom, just don’t stop. Just think of this person as our only legacy holder,’ The man said, placing his hand on the baby’s head one last time before he ran straight inside the burning house.

’No!’ The old lady shouted in agony, and I could feel my eyes tearing at the pain in everyone’s eyes.

The man was probably her son, but why would he sacrifice himself like this? I saw the lady who had kissed the child’s cheeks earlier also rushing inside the house.

The man and the woman started bringing out people who were probably stuck inside before both of them rushed inside.

"Is everyone out already? The hell?!" Someone asked, and I shook my head.

What were they doing? I looked in horror as a few men rushed to the site and started breaking things, pushing people around to stand closer.

No. Everyone was not safe. Those two people just went inside...

"Hey, stop it. What are you doing? My son and daughter-in-law are inside,"

I saw another man who took out a grenade and threw it into the burning house.

My eyes widened and I looked at the scene, horrified.

No!!! A scream left my mouth, my heart stinging with the amount of pain that was unjustifiable.

No. No. No. What the hell was going on? Those two people just helped so many people. Why did no one help them?

’Quickly, get hold of that old lady. The baby is with her. We need to end this entire lineage of cunning vixens for once and all,’ The man who threw the grenade said, and I shook my head.

The old lady started running backward into the forests.

Boom! The sound of something exploding echoed and I nearly shook, my body trembling.

W- What the hell did they do?

The throbbing pain once again hit my chest like another wave of tsunami, and I clenched my fists against my chest raising the pain.

There was no way I was feeling the pain of someone I didn’t even know. It was just the smoke of these hazardous chemicals that was playing with my head.

Yes. That was the case.

’Valencia, come out of your thoughts. Damn it! Snap out of it! Those thoughts are not real. Open your eyes and look forward. The fire is almost near us,’ Aurora roamed in my head space helplessly.

Aurora was right. I can’t let my fears bring me down all the time. I will have to fight against my demons sooner or later. There is no way I will make both of us suffer because I can’t get over some weird thoughts that appear every time a situation like this arises. I told myself, clenching my fists before I opened my eyes that I didn’t even know I had closed subconsciously.

Panic started to settle in my heart and all the courage I had gathered so far, started to deplete immediately, making me widen my eyes as I coughed loudly.

No. No. I have to get out of here.

I tried to stand, taking support of the wall, but before I could take another step, the wooden almirah that was burning a few inches away from me, fell down, the burning wood scattering around, one of the wood landing on my foot, making me wince in pain.

My vision started to blur as dark spots appeared in my vision and before I could try to escape once again, I felt my body going limp, and I was about to fall when someone saved me.

"Keep your eyes open, Kitten. Nothing will happen to you," His cold yet comforting voice echoed in my head before my vision darkened, and I fell into a dark abyss.
