Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna
Chapter 316: A story

Chapter 316: A story

VALENCIA’S POV

I sat there helplessly.

I mean, there wasn’t much I could do in this. I had to attend to so many things, take reports from Jason, and then ask Tory and Theo how things were going around their investigation for the pendant or Alfonso. But I couldn’t even do the simple task of talking to someone without needing a maverick to be my interpreter.

I sighed, gazing at Maverick, who was busy meeting with the alphas of the other packs affected by the rogue of the southern regions.

He looked at me instinctively before smiling, and I lay on my stomach, sprawling my legs and arms.

His chuckle reverberated in my headspace, and I lifted my head to glare at him, making him immediately zip up and concentrate on his meeting.

I could hear what they were talking about.

According to the intel, those thirty women we found were indeed arranged by the rogue head of the southern regions. Though we thought there was more to the story, we were probably overthinking about it because of the devil’s appearance.

The Lycans haven’t contacted us since that day, and the council members, when they heard about how the devil came to meet me, have gotten more proactive in trying to find a solution to help me when I think there isn’t one.

I mean, the angels and witches have made it clear plenty of times that there is no solution to it, and concentrating on it is akin to wasting their time when they should be working hard on how to handle the rogues that were our prime problem.

’Aurora, till when are you going to keep quiet?’ I asked my fake-wolf.

She has been reticent since I woke up yesterday evening, and I can’t help but wonder if something is wrong with her.

However, she did not let me enter my headspace, and it was practically impossible for me to see her.

I was about to close my eyes and drift off to sleep when I finally heard a crack-like thing. It was an indication that she was removing the ban she had put me on, and I looked inside my head space.

I gulped, unsure what happened.

To say I was shocked would be an understatement. Aurora was indeed there, but her condition was nowhere near good.

Her fur was damaged, and there were multiple wounds on her body, like some kind of string wounds. It almost looked like she was tied by some strong metal threads that cut through her skin and left those marks.

"Who did this to you? What happened?" I asked.

Was it the devil who hurt her? I fought those skinwalkers, and she has been like this since then. Could that be the reason?

"You tell me. I told you to stop, control your emotions, and snap out. Did you listen to me?" She asked, and I raised my brows.

There was no way all this happened because I didn’t stop. I mean, I don’t even remember what exactly happened. Maverick indeed gave me snippets about how I lost control and lusted after blood and tried to push him away, but...

"You didn’t just go after blood. You gave into the desires of your powers, Valencia. You have no idea how much blood you drank before Maverick controlled you. I kept asking you to snap out of it because it was getting hard for me to control your powers that would end up killing us both, but to no avail; you listened," Aurora said.

As I heard her words, I couldn’t help but feel guilty.

"Are my powers, or whatever they are, that bad?" I asked, feeling sad.

All my life, I was under the impression that I didn’t have a wolf and took all the bullying from family and friends, and now that I know I have a wolf and she is not fake, she tells me that I can’t transform into one because it will kill me.

Aurora sighed after a long, drawn-out sigh.

’I don’t mean to blame you, Valencia. There is still some time before you can transform. I just need you to keep checking your emotions until then,’ Aurora asked me.

’Is it really possible? Am I the one at fault for not being able to do so? I didn’t choose to be like this. Why does everyone make it look like everything around me is my responsibility? And while I don’t want to act like a brat, is it hard to see that I am suffering too?’ I asked with a meek voice.

I didn’t want to throw a tantrum or anything, but I was hurt by the constant expectations and responsibilities placed on me. I was also trying my best to be useful.

When I turned to rogue life, I had planned to live happily without worrying about anything. However, I am still trying to understand the severity of the situation. Does that mean I don’t deserve to loosen up a little and have a little help from people who are vouching for how important everything happening around me is?

Aurora sighed. I could see her expression softening, and she sat close to the walls of my headspace.

"Do you want to hear a story from me?" She asked out of the blue, and I hummed.

She smiled and started narrating the story about a girl.

"Once upon a time, there was a princess called Valerie. She was soft-spoken and very kind-hearted. She had the best life till she was fourteen, and everyone respected her. However, on her fourteenth birthday, she couldn’t turn into her wolf," Aurora stopped, allowing me enough time to take in the information.

I don’t know if it was just me, but Aurora seemed to want me to relate to the story, and I barely hummed.

"When she didn’t turn, those people who never got tired of singing her praises started calling her curse. As a princess, she wasn’t bullied or tortured, but she became an outcast of society. The King started to stay worried about his daughter. He wondered what sins he had in his past life that his daughter was bearing now. He loved her a lot," Aurora smiled as if reminiscing some memory.

She told me how the people who were against the king used to look for an opportunity to badmouth the princess whenever she came out, and because of that, she stopped exiting the palace.

The loneliness and the rumors she heard about herself from the maids started to drive her mad. She was still kind and a sweetheart, but people who used to bask in her kindness started hating on her and calling her names, calling her a cursed omen.

Things continued like this for three years, and in her last year of life, she started to feel some setbacks before she turned eighteen. The powers of her wolf began to show up, and everyone started to stay wary of her.

Since she never transformed into her wolf, they thought she was some kind of bastard witch, and the same father who used to love her started to suspect her. He wondered if his queen had cheated on her and he was rearing a bastard for so long.

He confronted her, but oblivious to what was happening, the princess did not reply.

She still tried to mingle with others and help people in need, but now she couldn’t even step close to them because of their negative energy.

One day, a rogue attack occurred, jeopardizing the security of the King and the kingdom.

It was her eighteenth birthday and an hour before she could turn eighteen.

The princess thought it was an excellent time to show and use her powers for everyone’s benefit. So she fought those rogues and let her body use the powers as much as possible.

She killed nearly 250 rogues at that time, thus saving the kingdom. However, while keeping her father and people, she starts to lose her sense of sanity, and things turn ugly.

When she had killed all the rogues, she turned to her father, thinking he would reward her. Instead, he took out his sword and pointed it at her neck.

Her father thought she was possessed by a bad omen who had arrived in the werewolf community to take over them.

Everyone was horrified by such a display of power, and they started throwing stones at her.

When she started throwing stones on her eighteenth birthday, her body started to transform. Everyone was shocked. Because of the over-exaggerated display of her powers, she couldn’t stop the transformation when her body began to heat up.

She screamed in agony, begging people to help her, but no one stepped forward to help her.

She sacrificed her life, appeasing them, caring for others, and even fighting for others in her last moments, thinking that she would receive the same love. In return, what she saw was pure relief in the people’s eyes when they saw her in pain.

The realization that she destroyed her life in the name of responsibility came too late, and it took her life.

"Do you understand something from here?" Aurora asked me, and I licked my bottom lip.
