Chapter 284: Needs Information on Glacier

VALENCIA’S POV

I sat on the chair around the table, sipping my juice like the things people talking around me didn’t concern me.

It has been twenty minutes since the lycans arrived and sat with us to have the conversation they were here for.

However, rather than concentrating on it, I couldn’t get the other things around me out of my head.

There was too much going on, but most importantly, I wondered how to help Alfonso and Maverick smoothen their relationship.

Should I ask Theo and Tory to investigate what happened seven years ago and whether they could contact any rogue who was alive and took part in the attack or probably knew about what happened?

Alfonso said Cordelia conspired with her rogue friends to destroy the pack, but what did she gain from it? After all, she had to leave either way, no? The pack still went to Alpha Maverick and not someone else.

As much as I have seen her and know how cunning she can be, I still don’t think she had it in herself to covet the pack for herself. Someone was pulling the strings while she was just a puppet acting for them.

Who was the main boss behind the attack?

Who would’ve gained the most if something had happened to Alpha Maverick that night? Alfonso? But then again, he was the one who was thrown out, too. If he had wanted the pack, he would’ve attacked again, knowing how weak Maverick was and that everything was a mess.

Besides, why did he stay silent for so many years?

Alfonso is clearly not the culprit, and I am sure if Maverick had given him the benefit of the doubt, he would have seen things clearly.

In fact, I think the reason Alfonso stayed out and away for so many years was because he was trying to silently help his brother and keep the rogues away from the pack. But without any substantial evidence, I can’t ensure any theory.

’I think you should look into the rogue head of the southern regions, Glacier,’ Aurora suddenly commented.

She rarely makes comments these days. After what happened that night, though she made her presence known to let me know she was still here, she barely said anything.

’Why do you think so?’ I asked, wanting to hear more of it.

I was in pain and hurt at that time, and I know I overreacted a little after that when I was almost about to reject her as my wolf, but I was helpless too.

If Happy and Maverick hadn’t arrived..., I shook my head to stop myself from thinking about that night.

’It’s just a speculation, but Maverick got his brother when he attacked one of the rogue bases that were functioning under Glacier. Cordelia is suspected of working under him, too. Also, the rogue head has openly shown his animosity to the alpha,’ Aurora said.

I hummed.

Her words indeed made sense. It could be possible that Glacier was the one who attacked the dark callisto pack with Cordelia to weaken Alpha Maverick.

Almost everyone deeply interested in the werewolf community knows that Maverick fought with the rogue head when he was sixteen. Glacier had made it alive all because it happened on a no man’s land where a pack wolf can’t attack a rogue until something lethal.

Could it be that Glacier has been trying to destroy Maverick and everything he holds close to his heart because of that humiliation? There could be other reasons that we don’t know of.

But the sudden increase in the attacks and the attacks on me all led to the same person.

Even the attack on the airport that Matilda plotted was done by the rogue group that indirectly works under Glacier.

I guess I will have to start with him.

But I can’t make Theo and Tori go themselves, either. Glacier and his team are dangerous, and we don’t know how massive it is. Moreover, I can’t risk Glacier knowing about my rogue groups.

I nipped at my nails, thinking about approaching this and getting more information.

Wait.

Yes... I can ask them to...

I stood from my place to make a call.

"Mitsuki?" Maverick’s words stopped me, and I looked at the table, where everyone looked back at me with a questioning gaze.

Right. How could I forget that I was still having this meeting with the Lycans?

"Sorry," I sat back with an apologetic smile.

"If we didn’t know any better, one would’ve thought she was brought here against her will," Lycan Veronica said, her gaze still soft, letting me know she was only joking.

"What is so important that the information about the curse on you doesn’t interest you?" Lycan Asher asked.

"What information?" I pressed my lips into a thin line.

Lycan Caleb narrowed his brows at me.

"Haven’t you been listening? We are here talking about what concerns your life, and you act like it doesn’t matter. Are you taking all of this as a joke? We said that the devil has arisen from the dead and—"

He started, but I couldn’t help but interrupt him.

"Pardon my intrusion once again, but what information?" I asked, repeating my question.

"Didn’t you hear –" Lycan Caleb started but paused himself this time.

I sighed.

"I know that the devil has arisen. I also know that he will come after me sooner or later. This curse upon me has been passed through generations, and since my mom didn’t carry it because her body wasn’t viable for this, I am the one who got it," I paused before taking the napkin in my hand and playing with it.

"My ancestors once put the devil to sleep, but they couldn’t kill it entirely because of some hindrance that no one knows about. I already dream about Eidolon because, for some reason, I crave blood too, the reason even the minotaurs of my labyrinth are made of blood," I said.

I raised my gaze and looked at the Lycans directly in the eyes one by one before smiling.

’My dad has grown some weird flowers in the council chambers that calm me, but they make me dizzy, too. It has something to do with the curse, too. Recently, my eyes changed their color a little, and I felt the heat of energy coursing through me that scared me so much I fainted," I said, knowing Maverick was surprised by this piece of information.

I didn’t tell him about it because I knew nothing about what was happening around me or inside me.

"Amidst all this, I have to deal with the people who want to hurt my man and me. They are after us. The witches say they have a responsibility to protect me because I am probably the one who can kill the devil, yet everyone is well aware that I am 100 times weaker than his true form, which he will take slowly," I said.

I stopped speaking, the realization hitting me like a bulldozer itself.

I could see Aurora looking at me pitifully, but I didn’t need anyone’s pity.

"I know all of this, so if you guys have anything new to add, please enlighten me," I said.

They went silent.

No one spoke a word, and Maverick held my hand, squeezing it a little to help me calm my heart. I was thankful to him for that.

"I know you guys have my wellness in your heart because, as the lords of the wolves, you think it’s your responsibility to help me, too. But I don’t want to deal with this at the moment. Pardon my words, but I didn’t ask you guys to come here, and I am the one suffering here, so you don’t have any right to scold me about it,"

I took a sip of my water, glaring at the Lycan Caleb before looking at Maverick, hoping he would understand the turmoil I was going through.

We all know what is going to happen, but they can’t expect me to stop living just because I know I will die soon. I just wanted to live this life with a bit of happiness. That was the reason I dealt with things my way.

After raging and speaking everything on my mind, I sat there like an innocent child who didn’t know anything about what was going on around her.

Maverick smiled at me and handed me the class of cold coffee that he ordered for me.

I took the glass from him and took a sip from the straw before sulking further into my seat.

"Is it good?" Maverick asked me, and I nodded at him before he bent towards me and kissed my forehead to calm me down even more.

"Please pardon her words. She hasn’t been sleeping well because of all the nightmares she is going through," Maverick said.

"Why are you answering for her? She can very well answer for herself," Lycan Veronica said, and I sensed a little hostility in her voice this time.

"Because she is going to be my Luna soon," Maverick said without hesitation, and I saw the expression change on Lycan’s face.

"We indeed have something new to add," Lycan Cassandra said after some time to clear the awkwardness, and this definitely got my attention.
