Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna -
Chapter 269: Fear of being caught
Chapter 269: Fear of being caught
THIRD PERSON’S POV
"Stop," Maverick finally felt his energy returning when he saw the empty room and rushed behind his woman.
He saw her turning around the corner and held her hand to stop her from moving.
"Please stop, Mitsuki. I... I am scared too," Maverick whispered and stepped before her when she stopped.
He fell on his knees and took a deep breath, letting his vulnerability surface for the first time from that night seven years ago so that he could show his woman that he was scared too.
He was scared of losing her. He didn’t say this to anyone, but he was scared of facing his brother. It was the sole reason; even after keeping him in the dungeons for more than 34 hours, he never once visited him, even in the name of investigation.
He was helpless.
Yes, he was hiding that helplessness behind the facade of his annoyance and anger towards his brother, but the truth was that when he faced his brother, he felt like the same eighteen-year-old boy who was frightened after seeing his parents’ dead body and wanted to find comfort in his brother’s shade, the shade that betrayed him.
And now he was afraid of losing her.
He feared that if he let her go tonight, he wouldn’t be able to mend what broke tonight.
Maverick gulped and looked up, letting her see the genuine fear in his eyes.
"Please save me from these emotions, too. No one... I don’t have anyone apart from you. Even if you feel cursed, you are the boon that taught me how to survive, love, and live. Please don’t take this away from me," Maverick whispered.
Valencia, who was drowning in sadness, consumed by guilt for not being enough and hatred for her wolf, who didn’t let her turn, saw Maverick’s bottom lip trembling.
She was hurt. She hated herself.
Only she knew how harshly she washed her body to remove the feel of those hands on herself. Her skin was blood red, and her wounds had opened up.
The wolfsbane in her system wasn’t letting her heal easily either, and it was really hard for her to forget the humiliation. But more than that, she was disappointed in her wolf.
However, seeing Maverick being like this, an instinct built in her heart, her body moved forward on its own accord before she could say anything.
Her hands wrapped around the man who was tearing up before her, making her realize how important she was to him since she was the only person he had ever shed his tears before, apart from his parents.
"I..." Valencia started to speak, but Maverick shook his head.
She embraced him. It was the only comfort he needed. He didn’t need her to speak, knowing all too well how hard it was for her.
"Please stay with me," Maverick said.
Valencia shuffled closer to him before placing her head on his shoulders.
"You have no idea what I went through during this period when I felt like I-" Maverick stopped speaking.
His heart skipped a beat, and he pulled himself away from her, looking at her, his pupils dilating when he realized she had fallen unconscious.
Right.
They never took her to the doctor even though they knew those bastards infused wolfsbane and silver into her system.
Maverick mindlinked Shadow to get the car ready as they needed to rush to the nearest hospital.
At the same time, Matilda, who was sitting inside the car beside Tyler, looked at him repeatedly from the corner of her eyes.
Since Kyle was driving the car, she didn’t want to open her mouth before their beta, who already knew a little too much than she preferred.
"You look like you want to say something," Alpha Tyler said with his eyes closed.
He could feel her penetrating gaze on himself, but the woman stayed quiet.
After some time, they finally reached their pack. After dropping the two near the pack house, Kyle left to deal with the paperwork since the men belonged to their pack and the neighboring Cartisens Pack.
When Matilda saw Tyler walking towards his room, she didn’t leave the chance and rushed behind him.
"A word with you, Alpha Tyler," She said.
Tyler turned around briefly and hummed at her before walking inside the room. He looked at her from the corner of his eyes, and she closed the door as he wanted.
"What is it?" He asked, taking off his coat and throwing it on his bed with the tie and cufflinks.
"Did you see what happened? Did you hear what Alpha Maverick did with those guys? How cruel and pitiful their death was?" Matilda asked.
Tyler didn’t say anything. His silence was his silent agreement, and Matilda continued.
"What do you think will happen to us if the words get out?" She asked.
This time, her words indeed caught Tyler’s attention, and he stopped undressing, his unwavering attention on her.
"What is that even supposed to mean?" Tyler asked.
The woman narrowed her eyes. She didn’t like how he treated her like she was some kind of fool who couldn’t see what was happening around them and what he was doing.
Apparently, there wasn’t any issue with the rogues, either. Her friend, whose father is in the pack of soldiers, confirmed it for her because she was scared she would be caught.
But why did Tyler leave the hall suddenly if there were no issues with the rogues? Where did he go? It wasn’t hard for her to guess that he went out to probably order his people to go ahead with their plan of kidnapping Valencia.
It wasn’t a mere coincidence that she got kidnapped right after a few minutes of him vanishing from the hall.
"You know what I mean, Alpha Tyler. Do you think Valencia wouldn’t have recognized her bullies who always torment her? I don’t know how you got involved with Alpha Maverick’s mate, but you must step back," Matilda barked.
Tyler didn’t say anything to her rude words this time. He knew she was right in some way.
It was pure luck that he had already told Mike and Nick that no matter what happened, they weren’t supposed to take their names. If anything, they could mention Maverick’s mate asked him to do so and even paid them for the work.
The cunning woman didn’t mention her name because she probably thought he would trap her like that. But she forgot that while announcing her name in the middle of the council party. She forgot that he was an alpha and would be there too.
Thus, the first thing he did was text them the woman’s name to make anyone believe they knew about her since they knew her name, which no one apart from Alpha Maverick and his pack members knew as they hadn’t made their relationship official.
He had warned Mike and Nick if they dared to utter his name or tried to hint to anyone that he was involved, he would ensure he made the life of Mike’s newborn baby a living hell along with their entire family.
He was barely lucky since she got people from the other packs involved, too, which became his shield. He had no idea his people were doing something like this behind his back for the money.
However, Matilda was right about this. Even though he could dodge the council’s basic scrutiny and investigation process, it didn’t mean Valencia wouldn’t mention it when she finally recovered from the shock.
Even he was shocked.
Tyler had only asked them to capture the girl and keep her drugged so she wouldn’t open her eyes, as he was still unsure what kind of strength she possessed as the daughter of the strongest Luna who ruled the Phoenix blood pack.
Who would’ve thought they would treat her like that? If they hadn’t misbehaved with her, they would’ve been able to come out of it with little punishment.
"You saw what that man did to his own mate. What would he do if he got to know you were involved with it? And don’t try to lie to me because I know the truth," Matilda said.
Tyler averted his gaze away from the woman and stepped only towards the balcony in his pants.
He felt like lighting a cigar, and that was precisely what he did.
While she was focused on what would happen to them, he was thinking about Valencia. For the first time, he felt bad for her. While as the alpha, he should have felt worse for those two soldiers, who were one of the strongest soldiers in his team, rather than them; he felt sorry for the girl even when all she suffered was due to him.
"I will see to it myself. You don’t need to worry about it. Just worry about being healthy and taking care of my child. Do you think I didn’t notice how you slipped a few drinks? Just because it is an alpha’s baby doesn’t mean it can’t be harmed," Tyler said before he walked inside the bathroom.
Matilda looked at the closed door with heavy emotions.
