THIRD PERSON’S POV

Happy looked at the alpha who killed everyone who tortured their master and nodded in approval.

Though he was still angry, he at least approved of the alpha’s tactics. Maverick dared not grab her in his arms, afraid she would lash out. He grabbed her hand and pulled her out with himself, making the other guards gasp at the sight as they could clearly see what was on her shoulders.

Jonathan and Dylan rushed to where she stood and looked at her condition with a pitiful gaze.

They could see that Valencia was hurt, but what Maverick did was...

They didn’t even have the words to explain.

Maverick turned to look around, his gaze meeting a familiar pair. He used his alpha speed to catch the culprit without wasting a second.

Cordelia, who had not anticipated something like this and just wanted to know what was happening, widened her eyes when she saw Maverick rushing to her.

She froze for a second before she used her speed to run away.

However, faced with the seething alpha, she couldn’t run away for long.

Maverick left her mouth dignity.

"You were the one who hired these people to hurt her. You came up with a plan, didn’t you? Spiking her drink with the help of a council member and then having her kidnapped," Maverick said.

Maverick grabbed a fistful of Cordelia’s hair before he started to pull her towards where everyone was.

"Maverick, listen to me! You can’t treat me like this. I am your mate. You are supposed to love me. How can you act like this with your mate for a bitch?!" Cordelia screamed in pain as her scalp felt like it would come off.

Maverick, who was pulling her, stopped for a second.

He looked at Cordelia, and the woman thought he was finally letting her go in the name of the mate bond, but in the next second, Maverick kicked her legs, causing her to fall to the ground.

Maverick started pulling Cordelia towards everyone once again.

"I never liked or loved you. That was the reason I didn’t touch you even when I found you. And then you died for me the day I caught you with my brother with the blood of my parents on the knife you guys had. I should’ve done this long ago. If I had, my woman, the one I actually love, wouldn’t have to go through this," Maverick said.

Cordelia dug her nails into Maverick’s hand as she tried to free herself from him or to make him lose his grip, but he was not letting her go this time.

Fear started to grip her heart.

There was so much she needed to do, so much she needed to achieve. How could she die like this? No. No. No.

At the same time, the rogue leader who had rushed to the forests to save Valencia, using the scent-hiding spray to mask his rogue scent, looked at the scene before him and didn’t know what to say.

"She was the one who planned this," Maverick said.

He looked at his woman again, hoping he would see some kind of reaction from her, but to no avail was she moving? She just stood there, unmoving, her eyes still dead.

It was hard to decipher what was happening inside her head, and he felt helpless.

Even after killing so many people, he couldn’t bring life back into her eyes. He looked around, moving his hand through his hair, unsure.

However, just as he was about to ask her what she wanted him to do, Valencia moved forward.

She stood before Cordelia, looking straight into Cordelia’s eyes before she grabbed her elbow and helped her stand.

Maverick thought her heart had gone soft because of the way he pulled her there and was about to explain when Valencia slapped Cordelia.

"You bitch!" Cordelia retorted, but in that split second, she saw something in Valencia’s eyes that left her speechless.

Did her eyes just turn golden?

Valencia grabbed Cordelia’s throat, choking her.

She didn’t speak a word to Cordelia or anyone.

She kept choking her, lifting the woman in the air.

Maverick scrunched his brows.

"Let it be," He said before he removed her hands from her throat.

Cordelia coughed loudly and started to breathe heavily to take as much oxygen as she could.

"You finally realized that I am your mate, and you can’t kill me like this? At least you know to follow the rules of --" Cordelia started to speak, but Maverick grabbed the back of her head and slammed her face into the tree as hard as he could.

He always thought he wouldn’t be able to do it. It was always in his heart to kill the people responsible for his parent’s death, but facing them was hard for him. It brought back trauma.

And that was the reason he couldn’t move much before her when he saw her suddenly in the council hall.

But his incompetence caused his woman to be hurt, and he didn’t need any more reason to end this once and for all.

Everyone watched in horror as he slammed her head five more times until nothing of her head was left before looking at Valencia.

His gaze met with Prince Ethan briefly, a clear warning behind his gaze.

No one... And he meant NO ONE was supposed to touch what was his anymore.

He wasn’t the eighteen-year-old boy who couldn’t protect his family. He was a twenty-five-year-old man now who was ready to bring the gods to the earth for his love.
