Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna
Chapter 258: Happy and sad

Chapter 258: Happy and sad

THIRD PERSON’S POV

Valencia sat on the bench near the flower fields, her mind blank from all kinds of thoughts as she looked at the beautiful flowers.

Aurora looked at her human counterpart, feeling pity for her. The wolf felt troubled and had drowned in agony for a couple of days, something she couldn’t tell Valencia about. Now, sitting close to these flowers, she felt calmer, and her head was thinking much straighter than before.

’What are you thinking about?’ Aurora asked after a dragging silence.

Valencia shook her head. She didn’t feel anything at the moment. Scratch that. She didn’t know what to think at the moment.

Thus, rather than replying to her wolf, she asked her another question.

’Why do you think Maverick’s mate has returned after so many years?’ She asked.

Aurora went silent for a moment.

’It’s not for the position because she knows Maverick would never allow that. Maybe because of Maverick’s brother, as he mentioned?’ Aurora asked.

Valencia shook her head.

’That’s the problem. After so many years, why did his brother appear only now? Besides, he wasn’t caught when attacking them. Theo said that according to intel, he was captured in a room. Do you think this is a big trap that we aren’t able to figure outbound by our emotions?’

Valencia asked, her question indeed putting Aurora into deep thought. She was about to speak more when her phone vibrated with an incoming call.

She looked at the caller ID before taking a deep breath.

"Hmm?" Valencia picked up the call.

"Have you been accepted already?" Tory asked.

"I guess," She gave a vague reply, and the man hummed.

"We are ready for the first attack," He said.

Valencia looked at the sky before closing her eyes.

Right. How could she forget about that? While preparing for the ceremony, she forgot about the attacks she planned on the rogues to aid those packs and get them in her favor. To counter whatever this big curse was, she first needed to increase her power and respect in the council.

When they see potential in her, the elders will support her during her miseries, which she has no idea about.

"We will go as planned," Valencia said, and the man hummed.

There was a pause on the other end. Rather than ending the call directly, as she had always done, Tory stopped, and she understood there was something else he wanted to add.

"What is it?" She asked.

Tory hesitated for a few seconds before closing his eyes and taking a deep breath. He might as well get over it.

"I know you would scold us because you strictly prohibited us from coming anywhere near the council chambers, but I hope you understand we were concerned about your safety," Tory added.

"What is it?" She pressed her lips into a thin line, not liking the vibes from the sentence.

She sensed that she wasn’t going to like what Tory would say and heaved a sigh of helplessness—the night that was supposed to be up for celebration turned into a night full of surprises and troubles.

"Well, we got to know about something. The authenticity of the matter isn’t assured, but–" Tory told her about everything.

The more Valencia heard the darker her gaze turned, and she clenched her fists into a ball.

At the same time, inside the hall, Maverick turned back to the party helplessly. As the beast alpha and the alpha of the alphas, he needed to stay in the party to discuss critical political matters with the elders.

Everyone could see that this place was the last place he wanted to be, and he couldn’t help but pity him.

They understood the laws, but they also understood what his mate had done. They had all heard about what had happened seven years ago and what had devastated him.

Apart from Matilda and Alpha Tyler, no one favored the new woman who arrived and spoiled everyone’s happy evening.

Once Maverick was done talking to one of the elder alphas, he was about to turn and grab a drink when Cordelia appeared by his side.

"You still owe me a dance, Alpha Maverick," The woman smiled.

Maverick, who was already running thin on patience, grabbed the glass of wine, not paying her any attention, hoping she would leave after getting bored because of his negligence. He was indeed hoping for a lot from a woman who came into his life, just to turn it upside down.

"Ignoring the elephant in the room doesn’t make it disappear. It only fills you with dread," Cordelia smiled again.

Maverick turned to her. His expression was calm, and his eyes were emotionless, entirely in contrast to earlier.

"Just because I can’t reject you doesn’t mean I can’t kill you, woman," Maverick said before smiling.

Cordelia, who was about to retort, paused.

She was ready and knew how to deal with the seething alpha and get on his nerves, but she suddenly felt unsure when he was smiling like this.

"My woman trusts me. And that’s more than enough for me to fight anyone. I know you have returned to cause havoc because I captured Alfonso. You might have come with some big expectations, but I guess I will have to send you back hopelessly. Send you back to the hell you came from," Maverick said.

Cordelia paused for a second, a flicker of emotions flashing in her eyes that was gone as quickly as it arrived.

"I don’t know what the hell you are talking about. All I know is I am here to regain what was rightfully mine. First, the man who IS my mate and the LUNA position that belongs to me," Cordelia emphasized the words.

Maverick scoffed.

He didn’t say anything and just chuckled before taking a sip of his drink.

"What is there to smile at? Do you think I am not capable of doing so?" Cordelia asked, her gaze burning with the upcoming challenge, ready to put down just anyone.

Maverick shook his head.

"Oh, I don’t question your capabilities. I just trust my woman too much. Let’s hope you haven’t struck her evil side yet. I have seen what she is capable of and how brutal she can be. And with me backing her up, even I would like to see who dares to step into my territory. I hate rogues for a reason," Maverick raised his glass before drowning the entire wine and moving away from her.

Cordelia gritted her teeth at the confidence Maverick had. Even after all the Thai drama, she was still not able to shake him, bring him to his knees, and beg her to leave him and his life alone. And all of that was because that bitch Valencia said she trusted him.

She scoffed after some time.

"Poor Maverick, you don’t even know what I have planned for you and your girl’s future. You shouldn’t have acted so smug before me. Now you have activated my psycho side once again. Who will be responsible for that? Who will pay for that?" Cordelia asked before shaking her head.

Matilda basked in the happiness of the humiliation Valencia faced and took a sp of her champagne as it called for a celebration.

"Alpha Tyler, what do you —" She paused.

"Where are you going?" She asked him when he placed his glass down.

"Beta Kyle just informed me about the rogues spotted near our pack. I will have to give new orders to the security to tighten the border patrol," Tyler said. Matilda looked at Kyle, whose expression didn’t give away anything.

"Ohh, okay. You should do that. Strengthen the security," Her voice shook a little. \

Tyler looked at her with furrowed brows.

"Are you okay? You shouldn’t be drinking this when you’re pregnant. Are you trying to kill the baby?" He asked. The woman’s pupils dilated before she shook her head.

"I was just going to take a sip to celebrate, nothing more," She said hurriedly before placing the glass on the counter.

She watched Tyler walking away, and her heart skipped a beat.

There was no way it was what she was thinking, right?

It was true that she was yet to make the complete payment for the rogues who she had hired to attack Valencia, but that wouldn’t mean they neared the Hazel Moon Pack for that purpose, right?

No. She needs to confirm it. She can’t let Alpha Tyler know what she has been planning. The man has recently become fascinated with Valencia and her likes.

If he found out that she had been planning lethal and life-taking attacks on her by conspiring with the rogues, she would be dead meat.

Even though she was pregnant with his child, and he might not exactly kill her or do something harsh, there were multiple ways he could hear and punish her mentally and emotionally.

Matilda shook her head and excused herself to call the rogues and ensure it wasn’t one of them.
