Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna -
Chapter 253: First Dance
Chapter 253: First Dance
THIRD PERSON’S POV
Valencia was shocked for a few seconds when Alpha Maverick dared to act so close to her, even when Uncle Jonathan warned him about it, before a smirk appeared on her face.
She smiled at Maverick, making him lose his grip on her as he thought she wouldn’t try to leave his side again.
However, as soon as he did that, he slipped right from under her grip again, leaving him helpless and glaring as he couldn’t act on impulse and grab her hand when she stood beside Jonathan.
He wasn’t afraid of the council head, but he didn’t want to disrespect the elder for the second time in the night, to be so open.
After the cake-cutting ceremony, Dylan offered his father the first bite of the cake, who shook his head, not wanting to look childish before everyone.
Dylan shrugged his shoulders before looking around.
In the name of a close family member, Carl, some of the council members were the only people he could give the cake to, as was the custom.
If his mom had been here, he wouldn’t have to think about who to give this... He paused when he looked at Valencia.
He had always hesitated to go too close to her, especially after knowing she was his cousin, but it was okay to have her eat the cake, right?
It was as if Valencia understood the dilemma and loneliness he was feeling in his heart.
She stepped ahead and walked to him, taking a little slice of cake in her hand and raising it to his face.
"I hope you love a long and happy life,* Valencia whispered to him.
Dylan smiled and took a bite of the cake before sharing, raising his hand towards her.
"I can’t," Valencia said.
Dylan’s heart sank, but he didn’t let his disappointment shade his expression and smiled understandingly.
He was about to place the cake on the side of one of the plates when Valencia held his hand.
"I can’t be satisfied with just one bite, but I will make do with it for you," Valencia smiled before eating the cake from his hand, and Dylan chuckled along with everyone.
"Thank you," Dylan whispered, and Valencia shrugged.
Prince Ethan, who was looking at all the interactions around him, kept looking at Valencia, remembering how she was the spy the council had appointed on Maverick’s case.
If this was her acceptance ceremony, did it mean they had appointed the case to a rogue? A rogue dealt with everything and completed missions for the council.
The thought and idea both repulsed him, but the woman before him was anything but repulsive.
He walked ahead as it was time for the first dance.
"Miss Valencia," he called her name to catch her attention.
Valencia, who was giggling at something Dylan said, turned to look at the Prince, her expression sobering.
"Prince Ethan," She nodded.
"Congratulations on your acceptance ceremony," Prince Ethan said elegantly, just like how he had always been before Valencia.
The girl smiled.
Despite what she heard about him, there was no point in her dislike or misbehaving with the prince.
She has known people like him all her life, who are hated just because they were born illegally, but then again, is it really their fault that their parents decided to have some fun without marrying each other?
It was true that the prince was enjoying royalty, but she hardly believed that he wasn’t lonely and depressed because of the rumors about him. There was no way they didn’t know what people said about him behind his back.
"Thank you," She whispered with a genuine smile.
"Would you like to honor me with your first dance?" Prince Ethan asked.
At the same time, Maverick, who was watching everything unfolding before him, paused.
He looked at the Prince, looking at his woman with a smile, the kind of smile that only said how enchanted he was with her beauty and a pang of jealousy shot into his heart.
He didn’t waste a single second and was about to step forward when Amelia held his hand.
"Sir, Alpha Callus wanted to have a word with you," Amelia said.
Maverick scowled at her hand, which was gripping his elbow, and was about to ask her to remove it when he felt someone’s gaze on himself.
He froze, turning his head to look at his woman, who was looking directly at him—not into his eyes but at Amelia’s hand on his elbow for the second time in the evening within 30 minutes.
He took a deep breath.
Reaper felt enraged and panicked when Valencia finally looked into his eyes.
She wasn’t jealous. She wasn’t hurt.
Her eyes... They looked disappointed.
’My woman is disappointed!’ Reaper recognized the reaction very well, and his heart ached terribly.
Not liking this feeling, he stood from his place in Maverick’s head space, making his presence known to Maverick, ready to threaten everyone’s presence in the room.
It was sudden.
Even Maverick hadn’t expected his wolf to react like this.
One moment, he was sitting and talking about how breathtaking their woman looked and how lucky he was to have found her and loved her.
He was whipped for her and swooned by her beauty, but more than that, he was happy that the moon goddess allowed this woman to be called theirs.
And the next moment, Amelia ruined it all by grabbing his hand like that.
It might just be her way of calling him, but she could’ve used the mind link. He wasn’t a fool not to see what the girl was doing.
Even if Maverick was ignoring Amelia’s actions because she was his childhood friend, the wolf held the least affection, pity, or sympathy for any woman who wasn’t his woman.
That was how these wolves maintained their one-woman legacy for centuries.
Reaper took over Maverick’s body, and everyone in the hall could feel Maverick’s alpha powers rising.
Reaper turned to look at Amelia, who stepped back, her pupils dilated as her body trembled under their real Alpha’s gaze.
Her fists clenched on her dress as she tried her best not to fall on her knees and expose her neck to the wolf in pure submission.
Reaper’s gaze moved to Shadow, who immediately nodded at his alpha and held Amelia’s hand, taking her away.
Dylan and Jonathan noticed what was happening and looked at the alpha before looking at Valencia, who had her gaze fixated on him.
They finally understood what was going on and realized that Maverick wasn’t the only person who had any kind of influence on Valencia.
Valencia had an equal, probably more enormous influence on this beast Alpha, and the actions of wanting to keep them apart might turn into a disaster.
Reaper took a deep breath before he walked ahead in slow but long strides.
Everyone parted, making way for the beast Alpha, not daring to even look into his eyes.
"Don’t tell me he is going for Prince Ethan," Carl said, and Dylan pressed his lips into a thin line.
He didn’t want Valencia to be stuck between the two men.
But now that it was happening before anyone, could they really do anything?
Reaper didn’t even bother to look at Prince Ethan. It was as if the man didn’t exist for him; no one in the room did.
"It’s me, Reaper, my moonshine," Reaper whispered.
Valencia’s pupils dilated, but she didn’t give any further reaction to him apart from nodding.
"Will you honor me with your first dance?" Reaper said, getting on his left knee before her.
Everyone gasped.
If seeing Alpha Maverick swoon over this woman at the last Alpha’s meet and getting on his knees was shocking; that was nothing compared to what was happening now.
The beast Alpha, who has never bowed to anyone, not even the royalty, was bowing to a council member.
If this didn’t tell them about his love for her, then there was nothing else that could depict.
And they were wrong to think so.
"No," Valencia said, her voice crisp before she looked at Prince Ethan, her eyes telling everyone it was a no for both of them.
The hall turned silent.
They looked at the girl, who was looking directly at her death by denying not only the beast Alpha but the royalty too.
She was really out to make enemies at her acceptance ceremony.
"I am afraid I had promised my first dance to Dylan, and I am not someone who makes empty promises," Valencia said, her words for the Prince, but her gaze fixated on the wolf.
Reaper clenched his fists behind his thighs.
He wouldn’t have to suffer this if not for his human counterpart.
He glared at Maverick, who was struggling hard to take over his body, and glared back at him.
"That’s enough, Reaper. You can’t be so wishful," Maverick tried, but Reaper just scoffed.
Dylan, who understood the assignment, immediately stepped ahead and held her hand, pulling her to the dance floor.
"What was that?" Dylan asked.
