VALENCIA’S POV

I looked at the man before me with wide eyes as he looked back at me with an animalistic desire.

I don’t know what they talked about in the hall.

I was happily playing with my Happy when the door of my room burst open. Before I could react, he grabbed my hand and threw me on the bed, making me bounce on the mattress.

As if Happy knew not to interrupt something or become a witness to it, he flew out of the window immediately.

"Quite intelligent," Maverick whispered before gazing back at me.

"Alpha Maverick, what’s wrong? You were fine just earlier. Is this because of something I did or because I don’t want to be protected by that girl?" I asked, feeling a little wary.

Maverick shook his head, the light in his eyes finally dimming.

He sat close to me and held my hand, his emotions suddenly changing from animalistic to comforting and loving, confusing me.

"I am sorry I reacted like that. I just... I want to love you. The fact that I can’t be inside you 24/7 and make you realize how much I love you hurts me. If possible, I want to make love to you at least seven times a day, more than fifty times a week," Maverick whispered, placing his forehead on mine. I gulped.

My heart skipped a beat at the rawness of his emotions as he poured his heart out to me.

Were these feelings real?

I know he wasn’t faking it, and though he has an extravagant way of showing it, his feelings were real. However, was it really possible?

We weren’t each other’s mates, and to feel this deeply for each other, I don’t even know what we would’ve done if a bond had indeed bound us.

Maverick looked at me as if my words offended him deeply.

I smiled helplessly at his expression before shaking my head.

"So it means I indeed dodged a bullet. Anyway, we were talking about the rogue’s recent attack," He paused before squinting his brows.

"You like it or not, but I am definitely asking two people to protect you all the time. The council also said they won’t send you on outdoor missions. They just said you had a mission related to the secret," Maverick eyed me, and I cleared my throat.

Right. How could I forget I was supposed to take care of the spying mission from the royalty?

Even though I denied the offer both times when the prince was adamant about it and just asked me to inform him about the basics of Aloha Maverick’s plans related to royalty, I had agreed.

"Okay," I said, not wanting to extend the topic.

He nodded at me before bending and kissing his forehead.

"Can I ask you something?" He asked, his expression serious.

I nodded at him before sitting with my legs folded, waiting for him to ask what he wanted.

"What do you know about the rogue head of the northern regions?" He asked.

I raised my brows at him.

What did I know about him? Well, I had yet to meet him, but I knew he was the good rogue head of the two I had heard about.

Though he also involves himself in the illegal business, it’s primarily because he has a large army to feed, along with their families.

Just like I am taking rogues under me, he took them under himself to give them a better life and save them from the useless wrath of the alphas who kill them uselessly, sometimes for fun.

His army of the rogues was one of the most righteous armies I have heard about and was much stronger and more prominent than the army of the southern rogue head.

Honestly, it won’t be a lie that I wanted to meet this man once.

After all, he was like an idol for people like me.

How righteously he was running his business without disrespecting women. I even heard that the men in his army are not allowed to get into illegal business, including women.

I haven’t heard of a man who said he has seen the rogue head of the Northern regions.

"He is a gentleman," I smiled calmly while walking to the balcony.

"What did you say?" Maverick asked.

"I said he is a -" I turned around and paused when he used his alpha speed at me and grabbed the back of my neck, forcing me to look into his eyes.

"I dare you to repeat those words," he whispered, his warm breath fanning my face, and I smirked.

Any person would instead choose to be quiet in a situation like this, but I wanted to push his buttons a little.

"I said he is gentle." I couldn’t complete my sentence when he pressed his lips on mine.

I slapped his chest when he caught me off-guard like that.

Feeling my back being slammed into the wall and the sound of the flower pot breaking, I groaned as his kiss intensified.
