VALENCIA’S POV

"Valencia, I won’t let you put your life in danger," Tory said as he approached me. I glanced at him as I held the bow and arrows and placed them on my shoulders to check if they fit.

I didn’t want to call him near this place, but I needed my kind of weapons, and I definitely didn’t want to waste more time roaming the markets here, which would’ve wasted another day.

"It has been six hours since I have been traveling to come here to do what should be done. Don’t tell me what to do and not to do anymore. If I come back alive within a day, Theo is coming back. If I don’t, I want you to send the news to the council," I said to Tory, who held my hand.

I understand his emotions, but if I thought about them too, I wouldn’t be able to toughen myself up.

The love in my heart for Maverick was also increasing, and it was already hard to ignore these emotions and keep them aside with the excuse that I had to save a life—not just any life, but an alpha who had stood with me and fought battles for me.

I cleared my throat before deleting the message and typing a new one.

"I have reached the place safely. I am going for the mission, and it might take a day. Take care of yourself for me. Muah XOXO," I sent the message and was about to put it in my pocket when my phone immediately rang.

I looked at the caller ID, my heart skipping a beat when I realized that he was eagerly waiting for my message.

"Hello," I said as I picked up the call, knowing this might as well be my last talk with him.

"Hey," he breathed, and I looked at Tory, who was looking at me with raised brows, probably wondering who was capable of bringing such emotions out of me.

I scowled at him as he was clearly invading my privacy.

I placed the bow and arrow back on the table in our hotel room and walked to the balcony.

"Hi," I smiled, and he sighed on the other side.

"How was your flight?" He asked.

"Good," I bit my bottom lip.

"And about food, have you eaten something?" He asked, and I looked at the time.

Right. The last meal I had was with him itself.

"I don’t have the kind of money," I smiled, and he snarled.

"Why didn’t you ask me then? You have been hungry for 7 hours? Have you lost your mind?" Maverick immediately got angry, and I chuckled at his choice of words.

He exaggerated seven hours as if it were seven days. I know I am a foodie and can’t avoid food, but must I make it sound like that?

"I am just joking. I landed not long ago and booked a hotel right away. I’ll eat something once I freshen up before leaving for the mission," I said.

Maverick didn’t say anything for a few seconds. It was dead silent. I wondered if he was even on the other side and was about to ask him when he spoke again.

"Is this mission risky, Mitsuki?" He asked, and I froze in my place.

What was I supposed to answer in this one?

Was it risky? Heck, I didn’t even know if I was going to make it out alive.

"You know how the life of spies is," I said.

"Hmm, I will wait for you," Maverick said, making my heart skip a beat again, but I didn’t say anything.

After exchanging a few more words, I ended the call and looked out the window at other buildings. It was close to morning, and the sun was about to rise.

I didn’t know if this morning would be my darkest night. With a sigh, I turned the phone off and stuffed it in my bag before taking the bow and arrow.

"What are you doing?" Tory asked, looking at me as if I did some kind of crime.

"Hmm?"

"Why did you turn off your phone? How will I contact you like that?" Tory asked.

"That’s the answer to your question. You don’t contact me," I said and stuffed the things in the bag that I needed to carry to the beaches. After all, I can’t carry a bow and arrow in the streets in broad daylight.

Though the sun was yet to rise.

"Okay, I am leaving," I said.

"Can’t you rest for some time and relax your body?" Tory asked.

He was trying to find any reason for me to stay, but I didn’t have that time to waste.

With a sigh, I swung the bag on my shoulders and left the room, followed by Tory, who wanted to drive me there.

I didn’t stop him from doing so. That was the least he could do when I was going on such a challenging mission.

As we were driving towards the beach, I suddenly remembered something.

"Do you know the significance of Red Coral? Theo had gone there to find it, no? Recently, I have heard a lot of this coral," I said.

Tory looked at me through the rearview mirror before humming.

"Shut up. You should rather focus on how to get your ass out of that Dark Callisto area. That place is not safe for you," Tory said.

"Yeah, whatever," I said, not wanting to talk about it.

"You can leave," I said to Tory.

"Have you lost your mind? I am not leaving until I drop you at the forests, and then I’ll stay out of it to ensure that if you call for help, I can help you," Tory said.

I looked at the man with a helpless expression.

"You know this is the third time you asked me if I lost my mind. Do you think I would let you spout such nonsense if I had lost my mind?" I asked before smacking the back of his head, making him snarl back at me.

I scoffed and rolled my eyes.

"Tone it down. Do you want to warn the people already and risk my life?" I said, and he immediately controlled his anger, glaring at me.

"Now leave just like the good boy you are. Prepare a feast for me. Because I feel hungry already. Let me get to it," I said before leaving the car.

"Be careful, Valencia," Tory said, and I smirked at him before showing him a peace sign.

If I have decided to do something, I will do it.

"If he is alive, he is coming out with me. That’s a promise," I said to him, and he nodded, blinking away the tears in his eyes.

Stupid guy. What was with this crying? I was going to make it out alive.

I looked at the forest, and as soon as I did that, I heard a loud, earth-piercing screech that almost sent my soul flying out of my body.

’Are you sure even now?’ Aurora mocked me, and I cleared my throat.

’I... I guess,’ I whispered before taking a deep breath.
