VALENCIA’S POV

I was shaking. My body was still trembling a little from the aftermath of what I saw.

No. I wasn’t talking about the broken shards of glass or the fact that someone threatened me again. This is starting to become my new normal these days.

I was anxious because of the dream I had.

I wouldn’t call it a nightmare.

"What is it?" I finally gathered the courage to ask, my heart starting to beat at a regular pace now.

"I am returning to the council. It’s vacation time, and as someone who works for them, I have to visit them from time to time. Dylan and Carl are here, which leaves Uncle Jonathan alone. That’s why I am leaving," I said.

Maverick looked into my eyes for a few seconds.

"If you are worried because of this threat or because someone is following you or you feel like that, I will ensure your safety," He said, and I shook my head at him.

"Not this time. I got to go," I said, leaving no room for further discussion.

"Okay," he said after a few seconds.

’Is he really letting us go so easily?’ Aurora suddenly said, and I raised my brows.

What did she expect? For the strongest alpha to beg us to stay?

I scoffed at her and started to clean the area when Maverick took the broom from my hands and started doing it.

"What are you doing? It’s not your job to do. This is my house. I can do it," I said, and the man looked at me briefly before continuing.

He didn’t speak, and I kept looking at him, unsure of what he was trying at.

Once he was done, he looked at me.

"Did you see what I did here?" He asked me, and I furrowed my brows.

"You cleaned the house," I said, and he shook his head.

"You didn’t get the point," He said before washing his hands, wiping them dry, and walking to me.

"I do whatever I want, and I get whatever I want done. You can try to leave this area," He said, his thumb rubbing my chin softly as he looked into my eyes with the same predatory look.

Was he, by any chance, threatening us? I wondered and narrowed my eyes on him.

"I am going to leave this place, and that’s final," I said, and he chuckled.

"I will let you try doing it. And that’s final," he said.

The confidence in his eyes enraged me.

No one tells me what to do and what not to do.

He thinks he can stop me from doing whatever I want.

"I will show you how people can slip from under your nose. I guess you have been proud for too long since no one was ever able to do it. But just you see," I mumbled under my breath.

The man, who was about to pull out his phone, paused and looked at me as I glared at him.

He walked to me in long strides before grabbing the back of my neck and pulling me forward.

"I really try to be gentle with you, Valencia, but don’t you dare challenge me. I fucking like you and want you. And I will not allow anyone to come between you and me, not even you. Let this be my final warning to you. If you dared to run away from me, I am going to hunt you down, and when I do that, I will sink my teeth in this soft neck of yours and stake my claim on you, your body, your soul, and everything that belongs to you. You are fucking mine, and no one is changing that," Maverick nearly snarled at me.

I looked at him wide-eyed.

This was supposed to be a confession from him, right?

If yes, why was I feeling so hot and scared at the same time? My heart was beating very fast, but it wasn’t because I felt loved.

I mean, I was feeling that, but ...what the hell?
