Chapter 148: An accident

VALENCIA’S POV

I looked at Caleb, unsure how to answer his question before taking a deep breath.

"That’s wrong. Of course, I know my parents. They belong to the beta rank in the Hazel Moon pack," I said.

There was no way I was going to believe that I was suffering torture and hatred in a household that didn’t even belong to me.

I won’t question anything until someone comes to me with proof.

"Is that so?" Cassandra asked and I nodded my head.

"Then how are you going to explain why you are a werewolf, an offspring of two pure werewolves yet you shapeshift into something different?" Veronica asked me.

I didn’t have the answer to that, but I was sure there was a reason behind it.

"I thought I would find my answers here. That’s why I risked it all and came here. But it looks like you guys are as oblivious about it as me," I said and they sighed.

"Do you want to know what the curse is about?" Cassandra asked, and I hesitated.

I have always been impulsive about things, but this time after hearing such words, I wanted to stay cautious.

"Give me some time," I said before looking at Asher.

I don’t know if it was because I met him first or because he knew how I was, I was more comfortable around him than the other Lycans.

"Can I come again to know the truth and the story once I confirm things?" I asked and they nodded their heads after looking at each other and probably mindlinking if they could do that.

As soon as they said those words, I stood from the table and bowed to them before messaging Maverick that I was going back to the hotel because Dylan called me urgently.

It was a lie obviously. But I needed time with Dylan. If there was anyone who could tell me anything about this, then it was Jonathan and Dylan only.

And I needed my answers without Maverick knowing about it. I was still not ready to open up to him. I might sound like a jerk, but the fear of losing this was bigger than anything right now.

I didn’t want to break Maverick’s heart just like that. I will tell him everything soon for sure, but not now when I wasn’t in my right mind either.

I hailed a cab towards the hotel and messaged Dylan to be available at the hotel and that I needed to talk to Jonathan too.

’Don’t be so anxious, Valencia. I am sure it won’t be anything of that sort,’ Aurora said, and I hummed vaguely.

I couldn’t complete my thoughts because, the next moment, the cab I was sitting in collided with another car.

I could feel my car being thrown in the air before it circled.

Survival instincts kicked in and I immediately held the back of the seat, trying my best to cover my face and curl my body into a circle to incur lesser damage.

The car hit the ground and the glasses shattered, the pieces hitting my body, making me clench my teeth in pain.

A ringing sound echoed in my head.

The sound of people shouting and rushing around us was so loud, but to me, it looked like nothing. The only sound I could hear at the moment was the loud ringing.

The only thing I could smell was the thick scent of mine and the cab driver’s blood.

The car was inverted and my body ached terribly.

’Are you okay?’ Aurora asked me and I seriously had the nerve to crack her head open and see if there was this working organ called a brain in there or not.

Did I look okay in any way to her? I gritted my teeth, groaning loudly.

Moving my hand, making more glass pieces move around me, I squared my jaws and tried to open the door, but to no avail did it move.

"Uhhhh!" I growled loudly, entering more pressure when I realized that I had a wound in my abdomen too.

I looked down and noticed an iron rod-like thing in my abdomen.

Tears flowed down my cheeks as my vision started to blur.

No. I wasn’t going to die like this...

’Happy!’ I whispered the only name who I felt could hear me in this desperation.

’You can’t do this to me, moon goddess,’ I snarled at the higher deity who was responsible for all the happenings in my life.

’Valencia, you are a strong person. You got this. I know it might be looking hard, but think about all the things we came out of. This is nothing in front of it,’ Aurora said and I nodded at her softly.

She was right. I can’t rely on some kind of deity to help me. She has never helped me before. Why would she help me now? She never thought about my happiness or pain before today, and she definitely won’t think about it now.

My life was probably nothing more than a series of events worth enjoying for her.

I can’t expect anything from her.

Closing my eyes for a brief second, I took a shaky breath before pushing the door with all the strength I could.

The rod was digging deeper into my abdomen, but I knew if I stopped now, I wouldn’t be able to exert the same kind of pressure again, and thus, without stopping, I kept pushing the door, the sound of it moving, making my heart full of hope and it wasn’t long before I was able to remove it.

The first thing I noticed as soon as the door was removed and the outer regions came into view was another crashed car that was almost fully damaged.

No. Did those people die? I didn’t even know how many people were inside the car.

"Hey, the girl is alive. Let’s help her first," Someone shouted and I saw a bloodied hand being extended towards me.

Thinking it was the hand of someone who probably was helping the people who got wounded, I took the hand and tried to move out, doing my best to not puncture my abdomen and hurt any organ.

It was not that deep. I could feel it.

After struggling for some time, I was finally able to get out of the car and as soon as my gaze met with the person, to say I was surprised would be an understatement.

I knew this man. I don’t know when and where, but somewhere in my heart, I could feel it.

I looked at his hand and noticed how badly it was hurt. Not only his hand but he was wounded all around.

I stumbled back a little, not being able to stand properly and the man held my hand, pulling me close as if wanting to help me.

"Unfortunately the drivers died," Someone commented around us and I immediately turned to look at the men in both cars who weren’t moving.

People around us were doing their best to pull out their bodies as it looked like the other car was about to burst.

The loud sound of the ambulance’s siren echoed around us.

My body felt slightly numb. The people around me were humans, and thus I didn’t suspect them.

After a few minutes, that man and I were pulled into the hospital on stretchers.

I could see the doctors taking his stretcher in another direction and I closed my eyes.

"You did well," Aurora said softly and I gulped. I don’t know if I did well.

’Fuck me,’

’Well, I don’t think this is the best place for that,’

’Stay where you are, woman,’

’Shut up. Are you wounded?’

As my body started to fall into the pit of unconsciousness, I could hear this conversation happening and my heart finally eased at the realization.

Yes. I knew this man. Now I remember. He was the same wounded rogue that I had met on my birthday.

I was running after seeing Tyler and Matilda together and had ventured into the no man’s land.

At that time, he was groaning because he was wounded and I had helped him with the wounds.

He was quite battered that day and had wounds all over his body, but of course, the wolfsbane-laced one was the one that was treated.
