Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna -
Chapter 147: What was the curse?
Chapter 147: What was the curse?
VALENCIA’S POV
"Don’t you think you are being too sweet?" I asked Maverick as he brought candy floss for me and he smiled.
"I don’t see a problem in spoiling my woman," he said, flicking my nose as we stood at the tourist spot where we could see all the cliffs and hills. It was a good destination indeed.
The clouds felt like they were moving below our feet. Breathing in them was a bit hard, but it felt refreshing and now that I stood beside Maverick with his hand holding mine, I don’t know what this feeling was, but it almost felt equivalent to something I have never gone through.
There is so much beauty in this world that we neglect because we can’t come out of our comfort zones and take an extra step to observe it.
Wasn’t this exactly what was wrong with all of us?
We are so busy with making our lives normal that we forget to enjoy what we have and what we have accomplished most of the time. We forget to appreciate the beauty around us, the beauty of nature, the beauty of people, and our loved ones who actually care about us.
I closed my eyes, letting the positivity engrave into my heart.
"What are you planning to do next?" I asked Alpha Maverick who shrugged.
"I don’t have everything planned as it is. Since we didn’t know how much time we would take on a particular destination," Maverick said and I rolled my eyes at him.
"I am asking you about going back to the pack. I heard the alpha’s ball will be arranged by you this time. Won’t your work increase by five times because of it? The alphas would surely be wary of a gathering after what happened in the Hazel Moon pack," I said.
Maverick nodded his head.
"It was quite strange how no one found the reason why the center of the venue started burning out of nowhere. They suspect that it was the work of a rogue or someone who probably snuck inside. Some alphas have shown suspicions over these rogues having something they use to hide their scents. We don’t know what exactly that is, but it’s definitely important for us to know," Maverick said and I nodded my head at him.
He was right about it.
Now that I think about it, those rogues who had attacked us yesterday didn’t appear out of the blue and we couldn’t even sense them. What exactly were they using?
"Well, things are going to be tough for sure," I said and he nodded his head.
"You don’t need to worry about those things. I will manage it," Maverick said and I smiled at him.
There was nothing for me to worry about either. Apart from the fact that a particular alpha knew I was living here and might try to create problems for me by exposing me, there was nothing else at all.
But this problem was big enough to create more problems for me for sure.
"I am just going to focus on my exams for some time," I said.
After sightseeing, we went back to the plains area which took us another two hours on the hills.
"Are you hungry?" Maverick asked me and I nodded my head.
"Famished," I said and he grinned at me.
After sitting at a corner table, we ordered some food for ourselves while he pulled out his phone to contact his people.
I closed my eyes for a second to relax and listen to the music, not wanting to indulge in my phone because I was sure it was full of things worth worrying about, like messages from my friends asking me how much I studied for exams. Lol.
But as we all know, a day doesn’t pass Valencia’s life without being attacked or annoyed by people, no?
As I kept my eyes closed, I could feel the presence of the almighty Lycans.
Asher probably told them everything about me and they came to talk to me. Because I could definitely feel more than one Lycan over here.
With a sigh, I opened my eyes and looked at Maverick who had the same expression.
He probably could see them standing right behind me and I took a deep breath.
It wasn’t long before the people stood beside us and I turned to look at four people.
One of them was obviously Asher while the two girls and one more male nodded at us.
Just like Maverick, I stood from my place to greet them, my gaze stopping at Asher who had a smug expression on my face.
"Alpha Maverick," The other male said and I was waiting for them to introduce themselves because I was surely done calling them other males and females.
"Caleb," the man finally uttered his name before extending his hand I thought he was doing it for Alpha Maverick, but he surprisingly extended it in front of me, making me look at it warily.
Well, what were the chances this was some kind of trick for them to feel some kind of energy from me? Anything was possible with these Lycans.
"It’s not poisonous," Caleb said and I smiled at him awkwardly before shaking his hand.
I noticed how his touch lingered for a couple of seconds longer, making me raise my head and look at him. He did the same.
There was an emotion swirling in his eyes but I wasn’t able to pinpoint what it was and I couldn’t help but sigh when he left my hand.
"Veronica,"
"Cassandra,"
The two females said one by one, extending their hands at me and I was honestly getting confused now.
I mean, it’s good they are greeting me, but why me only?
They nodded at the alpha and brought the chairs to sit with us.
Yes, asking for privacy was not an option anymore.
I noticed how Cassandra sat close to Alpha Maverick, who stood from his place and walked some distance to make a call.
As soon as he stood from his place, the four Lycans looked at me.
"You were talking about a curse yesterday," Asher said, getting straight to the point.
I shook my head at him.
"It wasn’t me. You were talking about some curse on me. Can you tell me more about it?" I asked without any formalities and he sighed.
"Don’t you know about it?" Asher asked me and I shook my head.
Why would I come all the way here and risk my life if I knew about it? I wanted to ask him but showing him any kind of attitude wasn’t the best option here and I sighed.
"Well, are you going to tell me?" I asked.
Asher looked at Caleb and Cassandra, who nodded their heads at him.
"Well, I am not sure why no one told you about it. We aren’t sure if you are really the one who is the chosen one, but according to folk tales, your mother was cursed by a Gypsy," Caleb said and now I was interested in this topic for sure.
My mother was cursed? Why didn’t I ever hear of it?
"What was the curse?" I asked, intrigued.
It was Veronica who took a deep breath this time.
"The curse was about the granddaughter of the last bloodline holder to be born without a wolf. We can’t tell you the exact scenario because this is something sacred to the families involved, but when that lady begged the gypsy for mercy, the gypsy who couldn’t do anything about it, turned the curse lighter and said that the heir would be able to shapeshift, but not into a wolf until certain conditions are met," Veronica said.
The more I heard about it, the more confused I got.
I wasn’t even the eldest daughter. Why was I the one cursed here? It’s not fair at all.
"Is it just the curse for the wolf? It’s not that hard though," I guess, we will find out when I will get my wolf, knowing all too well that I had a wolf they did not need to know about. Asher and the others looked at each other.
I didn’t like the way they were being so cautious regarding this topic. What was going on?
"It’s not just about being unable to turn into a wolf," Cassandra spoke for the first time.
"Well?" I asked.
Why can’t they say everything in a single go and stop making this so suspicious?
"The only heir of the lady, the granddaughter who was cursed will be -"
Before she could complete what she was saying, I scoffed.
"Well, that’s not going to happen. I am not the only child of my mother," I said, clapping my hands.
I already had too much on my plate. I didn’t want to hear about a thing that wasn’t related to me.
"Well, that’s strange. Because you definitely show all the symptoms of being that heir. The presence of that bird is an indication. Are you sure you are their daughter?" Caleb asked me and for the first time in my life, I suddenly questioned my birth.
What he asked me was surely offensive but...
