Chapter 134: She left?

Chapter 134: She left?

ALPHA MAVERICK’S POV

"Sir, are you really alright?" Shadow asked for the tenth time as he looked at my dark face and I rolled my eyes at him.

"If you asked this question one more time, I am going to strangle you, for sure," I said and he immediately nodded his head, probably getting the message.

After the incident with the Hazel Moon pack, all the alphas left the engagement party as the event was canceled.

Everyone tried their best to find out what could be the reason behind the sudden fire, but to no avail did anyone find anything and with the promise to aid the pack with the investigation, the council assured everyone that they would get to the root of it.

They indeed said those words, but for some reason, the look on Jonathan’s face wasn’t too promising.

There was just something about his expression that made me feel like he was kind of happy that something like this happened in the first place.

It didn’t make any sense and I was probably thinking too much into things but when I saw Dylan had a similar expression, I knew something was wrong with the pack and they probably messed with someone close to the council.

Then again, with the reputation that Alpha Tyler had about rejecting his own mate to marry a stronger wolf, no wonder people didn’t like him much.

I sighed and looked out of the window, thinking about everything that happened.

It was as if one moment I was talking to the woman I liked, and the next moment the entire venue started to burn and crumble.

Luckily, all the alphas and other wolves used their high senses and Werewolf speed reduced the risk and amount of casualties. However, even after that, we got 23 people who got terribly injured.

I wasn’t sure about who they were. The report released by the council will have all the details and that’s why I didn’t bother either.

I didn’t want to stay in the place one more minute and left it immediately after telling Alpha Tyler.

Honestly, I looked at the girl he was going to engage and she really looked just so-so. The way she was looking me up and down was another unnerving thing. Did she think she could size me up and show me my place? Poor soul didn’t even know if I hadn’t been in a hurry to meet my love again and see her, I would’ve popped those eyes of hers that dared to look me dead in the eyes.

She was going to bring a lot of trouble to the alpha with that kind of attitude.

But the kind of man he was, he probably deserved that kind of woman in his life.

"How long will it take?" I asked Shadow who looked at me through the rearview mirror before looking at Greta, who grinned.

"Why don’t you call her already alpha? That would be a better idea. She will be talking to you and then boom you are in front of her," Greta said and I raised my brows at him.

As much as his idea was tempting, I know he was hurt trying to distract me.

"Do you think I am a kid?" I asked and he grinned before chuckling.

"I am sorry, Alpha. But the way you act when it concerns her is really funny," Greta said and I smiled at his words.

Well, was it that obvious?

’Obviously, it’s obvious. And why shouldn’t it be? These guys should already start to realize that she was going to be my woman,’ Reaper said possessively and I couldn’t help but chuckle at his choice of words.

’Our woman,’ I said and he rolled his eyes at me, making me quirk my brows.

Was he being for real? That girl probably didn’t even have a wolf. So it was just her and me. He was the third wheel here. I grinned at my thoughts knowing all too well that if I said that aloud, he would surely get annoyed and do something that would land both of us in trouble just because he wanted to take revenge.

I shook my head and pulled out my phone before looking at the photo of hers that I had taken sneakily.

Huh...how can someone look so beautiful and enchanting all the time? I shook my head, waiting for us to reach her apartment already.

It took us half an hour to reach her apartment, and I immediately rushed to the lift, hoping she would be there at her place because I did not want to wait anymore.

I wanted to hold her in my arms, look at her blushing face, and just kiss the hell out of her.

I knew the passcode to their lock already.

Yes, the sneaky me saw it when Carl was entering it last time.

As soon as I entered the passcode, the first thing I smelt was her faint scent which immediately relaxed me.

But why was her smell so faint? Was she not here?

I remembered her talking to someone in the background that she was leaving for somewhere.

Was she not back yet?

Well, this makes me sad.

I sighed and was about to leave with a dejected face when I walked towards Carl’s room, hearing some voices.

Probably Carl was inside.

He must know where she went and how long it will take for her to return. With this thought in mind, I was about to knock on the door when my body froze in its place.

"You don’t understand, Dylan. She is nowhere. Yes, I know. It was my responsibility. Please rather than shouting at me, can you tell me where she must’ve gone? With the rogue head lurking around to look for her, this is not the time when we can afford to lose her," Carl said.

I looked at the closed door, my anger increasing.

What did he mean Valencia was nowhere to be found? Where did she go? And why?

Did something happen that I had no idea about? Was she upset about something?

Wait. Those wounds on Tyler’s body that my wolf could sense, there was no way the alpha Valencia hurt was Tyler, right?

Could it be that she left to meet that Alpha and see what caused the fire? Was she behind it or related to it in any manner?

What was their relationship?

Not wanting to think too much into things, I twisted the knob at the same time, Carl said, "I might have said a few wrong things to her. You are coming here already? In fifteen minutes? That would be-"

I saw Carl turning to me with wide eyes, and I glared at the man in front of me.

"What did you say?" I asked him and was about to grab his collar when I heard Dylan’s voice from the call.

"Alpha Maverick, calm down. I will be there in fifteen minutes and we can discuss the matter calmly. There is no use blaming anyone. We should be focusing on the bigger picture," Dylan said and I walked out of his room, feeling enraged.

I was angry. Scratch that. I was beyond angry.

I wanted to see my woman with me. God knows what exactly this man said to her for her to disappear.

The last time she disappeared like this, she was captured by the rogues. The thought of her getting into some bigger trouble because of this man was surely unnerving and all I wanted to do right now was beat the shit out of him.

After fifteen minutes with me pacing in the living room, Dylan finally showed up and I saw him going straight to Valencia’s room.

Right. Why didn’t I think about it?

I saw him looking around before he finally found what looked like a folded paper under her pillow.

It was a letter.

Carl stood near the door, not daring to come inside as I glared at him.

Dylan read the letter and massaged his forehead.

"What the hell did you say to her?" Dylan looked at Carl, and I couldn’t help but snatch the letter from his hand.

’Dear Dylan,

For some reason, I know you would be the only one who would be able to find this letter. I know you will be coming to me after Alpha Tyler’s engagement. Uncle Jonathan must’ve already told you that I denied the mission.

I apologize for all the inconvenience you will have to face because of that. However, I just couldn’t do something against my ethics. So far you have taken care of me, protected me from this cruel world, accepted me, and given me family and friends to laugh and cry with. I am thankful to you for that.

However, I think it’s about time I stop leaning on you. Please forgive me for all the mishaps I created around you.

I will always be grateful to you for everything. Rest assured, you guys won’t have to worry about me anymore. Please extend my apology to Carl too. I am sorry and grateful for everything.

Your mischievous baby girl,

Valencia,’

The letter said.

It hurt me.

It hurt the fact that she didn’t once mention me in the letter. Was I that insignificant to her? Did I not mean anything to her?

I was about to crumble the letter when it dropped from my hand and I bent to grab it.

Something was written behind it.

I looked at the words and my heart skipped a beat at what it was.
