Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse -
Chapter 68: What Is Your Wish?
Chapter 68: What Is Your Wish?
’Do I want to know?’ asked Tank as he lined up his next shot. The weak point on the clown wasn’t between the eyes like it would be on any other person. No, according to the glowing red circle that only he could see, the clown’s weakness was found inside of the thing’s mouth, right at the back of its throat.
"No, I’m pretty sure that you want to kill. Go, have fun. The Queen is already taking her pound of flesh."
Tank turned away from the clowns to see his little Lamb, a gun in each one of her hands, as she continued to take down every zombie that rose from the dead.
’She can see?’ he asked, unable to suppress the grin on his face as, one after another, the zombies fell.
"When she is touching someone," replied the voice. "Or when someone is touching her."
Tank’s eyes narrowed, not seeing anyone around his little Lamb. "Ah, she can also see using the Sins," clarified the voice. "But you don’t need to worry about that. Pay attention to the current threat. Then you can slowly unravel all the mysteries of our master."
Turning his attention back to the clowns, he continued to shoot, a clown dropping every time he pulled the trigger.
"These don’t seem to be that bad," he grunted out loud. "Or at least, not something to be so terrified of."
-----
When the last zombie fell to the ground, I spun around, ready to confront Tank. "Bite your tongue," I growled at him. "They are worse than cockroaches."
Tipping my head toward the building behind us, I brought his attention to the red-covered windows.
Somehow, the Killer Clowns had managed to get inside and were now tearing everyone apart.
A bloody fist beat against the door as the face of one of the men seeking refuge inside the building pressed his cheek against the glass, desperate to get out.
"Well, maybe Dante was trying to save me after all," I sneered, taking a tiny bit of glee in the insta karma that was happening right in front of me.
Today was starting to look up.
-----
"Holy fuck, you are stubborn," sneered Pride as Dante, Mathis, and thirty of his men raced up the stairs, trying to find a safe place.
It seemed like every time they opened a new door, a clown with a massive meat cleaver was already inside the room. Their giggles were starting to grate on his nerves as they took a swing at the person opening the door.
He had lost almost half of his men before they decided not to go into any room already closed.
That left only the communal rooms, like the lounges and cafeteria, to hide in. But hiding wouldn’t get rid of the threat.
’Shut the fuck up unless you are offering a solution,’ snapped Dante, not interested in dealing with the sin. It was almost mocking him with his tone, and Dante had more than enough of that.
"I offered you a solution, remember? You turned me down," reminded Pride, and Dante could practically see him sitting on his throne inside his head.
’And yet, you are still persisting,’ pointed out Dante, taking aim and firing it at a clown who had stumbled in after him. The clown simply shook its head before going after one of the men too tired to move.
The clowns almost seemed to be playing with them, herding them to where they wanted Dante and his men to go.
"What can I say? I see a lot of myself in you. Although, I would like to think that I wasn’t so stubbornly stupid. How about I give you a second chance? You protect my angel, and I’ll see what I can do about getting you out of this mess."
The offer was too good to be true, like someone offering a pillow when you were already tired, but still, Dante wasn’t completely sold.
’That’s it? Protect her? That’s all you want me to do?’ repeated Dante, thinking that he was missing something extremely important. ’Can I just get one of my men to do it?’
The laughter inside his head was just as bad as the laughter from the clown in front of them. Dante turned his attention back to the creature that was literally wearing the intestines of his man around its neck like a boa.
"Are you really going to have any men left after this? Like I said, there is a thin line between being prideful and stupid. Hopefully, you can come back from that," replied Pride. The demon was really getting on Dante’s last nerve, but he wasn’t wrong.
He had his back against the wall, and there was only one way out of it.
"Okay," he agreed finally, his voice coming out strong as all his men turned to look at him. Straightening his back, he adjusted his suit. ’Where do you want me to sign?’
"Sign?" chuckled Pride, his voice seemingly coming from right beside Dante. "There is nothing to sign... no contract, so to speak. All you have to do is make a simple wish. That’s it."
’A wish?’ replied Dante, his eyes narrowing as a second clown found its way into the lounge where they were all huddled in a corner. He remembered the creature telling Tank that someone had made a wish... but wishes weren’t real.
Or at least, none of his had ever been answered in his last life.
"A wish. What is it that you want most in the world? Just say the words; they don’t have to even be out loud. Just make sure that you know what you wish for because you can only make this wish once."
Dante thought long and hard about what he would wish for just as another one of his men fell to the killer clowns.
’Okay,’ he grunted. ’I know what I am going to wish for.’
"Well?" purred Pride, the pleasure and enjoyment of getting his way coming out clearly with just that one word. "Don’t keep us in suspense. What is it that the great Dante Leone, head of Country M’s underworld, wishes for?"
