Chapter 51: Can I Just Pretend?
"She created a sanctuary," breathed Greed, his face just as pale as Pride’s. "She shouldn’t be able to do that. Once a wish had been made, there shouldn’t be any way to change it, let alone create a sanctuary as a result of it."
"I’m sorry," sputtered Lust, dropping down on his throne, his face no less stunned than the others. "Our little Pet did what now?"
"She created a sanctuary, complete with a guardian. She made the house alive, sentient to the point it could hurt the inhabitants if they wanted to hurt Elizabeth. She has given Elizabeth eternal life."
"Well, fuck," breathed Gluttony. "I didn’t think that would be possible. I mean, there has to be a limit to what her powers can do."
Envy pulled out a contract from thin air and started reading through it. "It’s a very standard contract; Party A agrees to go out and get wishes. In exchange for the power to grant said wishes, Party A agrees to give Party B any energy, powers, life forces, or anything else that was given in exchange for said wishes."
"Let me see this," sighed Pride, taking the three hundred page document from Envy and started to read it from beginning to end.
"Envy is right. This is the standard human to demon contract. There is no way that Hattie has the power to create a sanctuary out of thin air, let alone a guardian," sighed Pride, throwing the contract down on the table beside Lust.
Picking up the document himself, Lust went through the contract himself, wondering if his brothers had overlooked something.
"Could you and Greed have been mistaken?" asked Sloth, slowly walking over to where Lust was sitting. Reading the contract over Lust’s shoulder, the sin went silent.
"Trust me, there was no mistaking what happened in that room. Even the universe stood still, waiting for the contract to be amended," shuddered Pride as he flopped down on his chair.
Usually, he wouldn’t be caught dead behaving like that, but he was much too stressed to care about his appearance at the moment. His angel, his Darling, had managed to do something that had never happened in the past 10,000 years.
It was thought that only three people in the universe had the ability to create a sanctuary, and even they weren’t able to create a living one.
It was thought that there was only one person in the universe who could create a guardian, and they had disappeared almost since the beginning of time. Not to mention, they would never have made a deal with a sin in the first place.
No, there was no conceivable way for Hattie to have done what she had done.
And yet...
The results speak for themselves.
"What do we do now?" asked Gluttony, his calm demeanor a definite contrast to the rest of the sins.
"What can we do? We still don’t have enough power," sighed Lust. "And that puts a very powerful human alone on earth with no form of protection."
"Could our meat bags be enough? Until we can possess them, of course?" asked Lust, turning to look at Pride and Greed.
"No," admitted Pride. "And we can’t exactly trust them right now either. Who knows what type of wish they’d make."
"So our best solution is to sit here and wait?" sneered Envy, clearly not happy with that idea. "My meat sack is better than the others. He’d be able to protect our Little Star."
"What about Wrath?" interjected Greed, turning to Pride to get his opinion. It had been almost a hundred years on Earth since the last time they had seen Wrath. They knew he was somewhere on the surface, but there was a lot of ground to cover.
Still, he would be the only sin at full power. There should be no problem with him protecting Hattie until the rest could reach the surface.
Pride let out a long sigh as he closed his eyes. As the first sin, everyone seemed to look at him for the solutions, but right now, he didn’t have any.
He no longer trusted the meat sack he had been grooming for the past 15 years. And now, with Hattie being able to do things she really shouldn’t, he trusted the meat sack even less. Especially with that female in tow.
Who knows what she might wish for...
No, it was better to go with the one brother that hadn’t been cast out yet.
But where the fuck did they start looking for Wrath?!?

The men went up and down, bringing up piles of money with every step they took. Jennifer, having gone completely crazy, was now tied down to a bed. Her arms and legs were stretched so far apart that she couldn’t even scratch her nose.
The women had to bring her food and water to eat, spoon feeding her, and helping her use a pot to relieve herself.
I stood outside the door of her room, listening to her protest and scream about the unfair treatment. She demanded the things she wished for, but everyone ignored her... even the women who knew the truth.
"I guess she technically got her third wish," murmured Elizabeth, coming up behind me. Softly, she placed both hands on my shoulders as she pulled me back into her embrace. "She is being waited on hand and foot."
I hummed in agreement. I wondered what she would end up sacrificing for this last wish.
"We won’t be bothering you much longer," I sighed, closing my eyes as I rested my head against her chest. "With everything that is going on and Sunny’s wish, something will probably end up happening tonight."
"That’s fine," replied Elizabeth, dropping a kiss to the top of my head.
"The house should clean up after any mess, and you cannot be harmed," I emphasized. "There is no reason for you to be worried."
"I trust you," chuckled Elizabeth as she moved me to the side as I felt someone slipping past me. "And if something does happen to me, it won’t be your fault. You did everything possible to save me. I have no regrets."
Letting out a long sigh, I sank into the woman’s embrace. "Can I just pretend for the rest of today that you are my mom?"
