Chapter 377: Her Bitch

Tank watched dispassionately as the Sins disappeared into the jungle, each following a path that only they could see. "Good luck," smirked Chang Xuefeng before he, too, stepped off the bridge. "Hopefully, I’ll see you at the finish line. If not, know that I will take very good care of your little lamb."

With a wave over the top of his head, the Angel of Death disappeared.

"Are you really going to take that?" demanded the hound inside the man. Ramsey snarled at the bars in front of him as the man continued to ignore him. He had had a lot of freedom lately, and the human hadn’t been impressed.

But it wasn’t up to the human to determine their form, and the faster he learned that the better it would be for the both of them.

The air around Tank vibrated the second he stepped off the bridge. He didn’t bother to reply to the angel or the beast, nor did he look back.

He could feel the house disappearing, the very earth under his feet shivering the moment Hattie vanished from the world. The fact that it also felt like someone had ripped his heart out of his chest had nothing to do with the pain he was feeling.

No, that pain was simply from being away from his Queen.

But he couldn’t come back until he got stronger... the house had been pretty clear about that, no words necessary. So, if there was no other option than to move forward, then that was what he would do.

"You aren’t going to be able to keep me leashed forever, you know," continued Ramsey, his voice soft even as his eyes flashed.

"I don’t need to," sighed Tank, his fingers brushing against a huge leaf the size of his torso. This jungle, this world that they had found themselves in was definitely interesting. It felt more like home than any other place he had ever lived.

Then again, that might be just the Hattie effect. How could he be upset when she was close? It was impossible.

Moving forward, his shoulders rolled as he cracked his neck with a sharp jerk. Every step felt heavier than the last like the jungle didn’t want him here, no matter how much it felt right. It was like the world itself feared what would happen if it pushed him too far.

Rightfully so. It seemed that the plants here had more intelligence than most humans.

See, not even Tank knew what would happen if he was pushed too far. He had never once had that happen to him. When Hattie was taken from him the first time, it was close, but even then, he knew she was still alive.

The blood he bathed in, the violence and fear he managed to instill in those living in the Dragon’s Lair was child’s play. In fact, no man in that compound should have been as stressed as they had been. As made men, it should have been second nature.

It was for Tank. From his first memory, he had been prone to violence. Not because of his circumstances, his parents never so much as spoke a harsh word to him, let alone beat him.

Not because of the gang wars or his time in the underworld. After all, that was a choice he had made as a teenager, and he had never once regretted it.

No, violence was in his blood. It called to him like a beautiful woman whispering sweet promises in his ear. It was the first thing he thought of when he woke up and what he dreamed about at night.

It was in his bones, his soul.

A predator wearing the skin of a man.

People had always mistaken his silence for stupidity. It was the stereotypical all brawn and no brains, but he didn’t mind that misconception. In fact, he had made sure to cultivate it even more. Bishop was more than welcome to be the brain... right up until he betrayed them.

His mother used to console the child that once he found his soulmate, she would be able to temper the beast inside him that demanded violence. That she was the one who softened his edges until he could be part of society.

But that wasn’t the case. Hattie didn’t soothe his beast; she didn’t soften his edges, and while she might have tempered the beast, she honed it into a more brutal weapon.

She accepted everything about him without complaint, without hesitation. So, he did what his mother had promised him his soulmate would do. He willingly created a leash around the beast inside of him and then handed it to her.

He was still the monster that made grown men piss themselves in back alleys. The enforcer of a crime syndicate so feared that even whispers of his name made corpses out of the living, but the second Hattie touched him, that monster sat at her feet and purred like a well-fed house cat.

It occurred to him that he probably should feel fear. The knowledge of what he was willing to do long before agreeing to give his soul to the Hellhound should make him worried. But he didn’t feel fear.

In fact, if something ever happened to Hattie, if she died or disappeared for good, then he was more than willing to let the monster inside of him free of his leash and devour the world.

Because a world without Hattie didn’t deserve to exist.

"So sweet, you make me sick," grunted Ramsey. "It is not our place to love our Queen. We don’t deserve her love or attention. We guard her; we protect her from the things that go bump in the night. We kill her enemies, destroy realms, and then go home to sit at her feet. It’s that simple. Never wish for more. Never expect more."

Tank scoffed but didn’t deny what the beast had said. It was true. He was her dog in all ways possible. But the beast had never been a man...

And Tank was one of her men.

"Don’t lie to yourself," grunted Ramsey, not wanting to admit that what he saw in Tank’s mind was everything that he ever wanted but knew he couldn’t get. It was his own personal version of Hell, and he loved every minute he got to sit at her feet while the Sins couldn’t even see her.

"You wanted to burn down the world long before you ever saw her."

"Maybe," shrugged Tank. "But now I want to burn it for her."

The jungle grew thicker as he moved forward, vines curling like snakes across the trees, thorns gleaming with venom. But they didn’t touch him. They knew better. But even though the air around him reeked of fear, something was still watching him.

"So," said a figure, walking slowly out of the dark shadows of the trees as he looked Tank up and down. "This is the bitch."

Tank raised an eyebrow, but since Hattie wasn’t here, he didn’t have to play nice. He didn’t have to pretend he was domesticated.

The two alphas stared at each other, neither one wanting to show weakness by being the next one to speak.

After a few minutes of silence, the stranger shifted slightly, the frown on his face deepening as he stared at Tank. In a split second, he lunged. Fast and fluid, his movements seemed to be nothing more than a dance he was performing in the moonlight. However, the talons at the tips of his fingers told a different story.

At the last second, he aimed for Tank, wanting to take his opponent out with a single blow. However, Tank didn’t dodge.

He caught the man’s wrist mid-air, completely halting any movement from the other side. His eyes turned bright orange as he smiled at the man. Letting go of the cage but not the leash, Tank allowed Ramsey to merge with him.

"I might be a bitch," agreed Tank, his voice coming out as a harsh growl. "But I am her bitch."

Still holding onto the stranger’s wrist, Tank grabbed his neck with his other hand. Calling on his own set of claws, he ripped out the stranger’s throat with a single motion.

"Pity," grunted both the man and the beast. "By the way he was acting, I thought he would actually put up a fight. How boring."

Ramsey was quiet, taking in the scents of the jungle around him. It was a different perspective, looking at things from only two legs. He felt weak in this body, but this body could do things that the other one couldn’t.

"You’re going to offer her our soul, aren’t you?" he said at last as the man and beast turned around and started to walk back to where the house had been.

"No," replied the man with a shake of his head. "I’m going to beg her to take it."

Because she was the one who held his leash.
