Chapter 362: You Saw Them, Too?
Adam hurled a beaker at the wall, not caring about the glass shards raining all over the lab floor. It wasn’t his first beaker or his first hundred; in fact, there wasn’t a single place in the room that was even safe to walk.
Even he, the first man, was covered in scrapes and blood. Not caring about the tiny slivers burrowing deep into his face, Adam continued to pace back and forth, his heavy boots grinding the glass to dust.
"Temper, temper," mused Eric, as he took a sip of the whiskey in his hand. His first few drinks had been sacrificed to his father’s temper, but he was making sure that this one at least hit his stomach before the glass hit the wall. "It’s been a while since I’ve seen you this pissed."
Adam, gone beyond the ability to speak, simply growled like an animal as he paused for a second to glare at Eric.
"I don’t know why you are so upset," continued Eric, enjoying the ability to taunt Adam. Normally, that man was so cold and psychopathic that nothing could get under his skin. This really was a treat. "It’s not like this is the first time she has slipped from your grasp."
"I almost had her," huffed Adam, every word coming out in a pant as his body seemed to vibrate with anger. "She was in arm’s reach..."
"And now she isn’t," shrugged Eric, taking another sip of his drink. "But eternity is an awfully long time; why not enjoy the hunt? When you finally are able to get her back, then you can punish her for her disobedience."
"Punish her?" Adam had a look of shock on his face as he spun around to face his son. "There is no punishing Lucifer. She is perfection, whatever she wants, whatever she needs, that is what she gets. She is the pinnacle of womanhood, the standard that all others fail to meet. When she returns, and she will, there will be no punishing."
"Wow," grunted Eric, his eyes going wide as he stared at the man who had been like the boogeyman for all of his life. Worse than The Boogeyman, actually, since the fictional character was modeled after the first man. "You are so pussy whipped, aren’t you? I never thought I’d see the day."
With a burst of speed, Adam raced forward and grabbed Eric by the neck, pulling him out of his chair and sending the glass of whiskey to the floor.
"You don’t understand," he hissed, the pupils of his eyes narrowing until they resembled that of a snake.
"No, I really don’t," shrugged Eric, not at all concerned. It would take more than being strangled to death to kill him. In fact, he had yet to experience a death that did kill him. "Mom was made for you, and yet, you act like you can’t stand her. Do you know how many humans would kill to find the other half of their souls?"
"Your mother was made for me," agreed Adam, his head slowly nodding, his gaze hypnotizing. "But I was made for her. I was made for Lucifer."
-----
"You seem to be enjoying your wishes," I chuckled as I shook my head. "First, you didn’t believe in them; now you can’t live without them."
Colt simply shrugged his shoulders as he walked over to where Sadie was standing. Wrapping his arm around her side, Colt continued to look at me.
"Why not use all the tools at my disposal. God only knows what we are going to find over there. If we want to stay alive, then it is best if we have a plan."
"And your plan is to make wishes?" I smirked at the man.
"It’s not like there is a limit, right? You said so yourself. So here is my wish. I wish for five smaller boats that are big enough to carry all the survivors that we brought from the apartment."
"Okay," I replied with a nod of my head. Within seconds, five lifeboats were bobbing in the water beside the ship. If I was the only one to see the massive log-like shadows in the water, then I wasn’t going to say anything.
After all, you had to be careful what you wished for.
"Everyone in the boats!" shouted Sadie as people rushed to the lifeboats. Children and their families went over first, and when they were settled, the rest of the people climbed over the railing and got comfortable.
Even though they knew that there was enough room for all of them, they still wanted to get to the safety that the boats offered them.
Blind fools.
"Oh, look," smiled Colt as he helped Sadie into the boat. "There seems to be only enough room for two of you. I should have wished for six boats, huh? Next time."
"Even if there was room," replied Luca with an ice-cold smile of his own. "We wouldn’t be taking them."
At his words, beautiful green wings erupted from his back, ripping his shirt, before they settled down. "See you on the other side."
Picking me up into his arms, Luca launched into the sky, carrying me over to the land.
"You saw them, too?" I chuckled. The outlines of gators, or some prehistoric cousin, were easier to see from the sky. Longer than the individual boats, it would take only a minimum amount of effort to capsize them. A single flick of their tail and five survivors would be no more.
"Kind of hard to miss," agreed Dante, his midnight black wings helping him to glide beside Luca. Every so often, he looked up at the pterodactyls still circling overhead. However, they didn’t seem to dare come down and check us out.
I guess even prehistoric birds were smarter than to fuck with demons.
"Is we all ignorin’ all de insults?" asked Dimitri as he swooped down over top of Luca. He was acting like a physical barrier just in case one of the birds decided to be stupid.
"What insults?" I chuckled, my arms wrapped around Luca’s neck as I rested my head on his shoulder. "Why kill someone when all you have to do is wait for the right time with a shovel?"
