Chapter 328: Playing

"Tank," I said, not bothering to lower my voice. The fact that Gerald and the other cannon fodder hadn’t even bothered to look over at me, then they didn’t deserve any warning. "Let a few of your packmates go have a bit of fun outside."

At the moment, I didn’t really know or care if there were any innocents among the people outside; if they got in the pack’s way, then they were kibble. It really was going to be that simple.

Hearing my voice, Gerald looked over at me with his eyes glazed over like he wasn’t really looking at me. "The doors will not open unless someone from Operations opens it. Not even the guards outside have that ability. No one is going anywhere, so when you are done with your little temper tantrum, I suggest you close your mouth and be a good girl."

The smile that appeared on my face was sharp enough to cut glass as I took a lollypop out of my space and opened it. "Don’t kill this one too fast," I advised Tank, "he should be able to get a front row seat to his success."

Tank nodded his head before he looked over his shoulder. The front line of hounds peeled away from the pack and approached the door on silent feet. Looking up at the camera that I had found in the corner of the room, I waved at it before putting my finger to my lips.

"Take it out," I smiled right before Tank sent a flame to burn the camera to ashes. "We don’t need anyone spoiling the surprise, now do we?"

The hound closest to the door took in a deep breath and let out a ball of hellfire that engulfed the door. In the time it took me to blink, the door was nothing more than a melted pile of metal.

Alarms started to scream from the door being forcefully opened, and Gerald finally gave my animals the attention they deserved. "I tried to warn you," I smiled at him, getting comfortable on my throne. "You just didn’t listen."

Tsking at his stupidity, I took way too much delight in watching Gerald’s face turning sickly pale. "Didn’t you want to record your findings?" I asked, cocking my head to the side as the second hound at the door opened his mouth, and shards of ice surrounded the five guards at the door.

Huh, I guess lucky number six decided to take my advice. Looking down the hall, I saw the doors to the elevator starting to close on the guard. Taking my first two fingers, I kissed them before lifting them in the air.

Good luck to you in the future. It seems like you have enough smarts to survive the shit storm that was coming next.

Pale and shaking, the guard stiffly nodded to me once right before the doors closed.

"Now, where was I?" I murmured, turning my attention back to Gerald. "Right. Recording observations. So, some of the clones have fire. They are in the first line. The second line seems to be comprised of ice users. The strongest of that line is who took out the guards."

The earth rumbled around us as a third hound took off, running down the hall. Streaks appeared on the marble floors with every step it took, as if his paws were the epicenter of an earthquake.

"That makes the third line an earth power user," I nodded, looking over at the second hound in the third line. I was really going to have to come up with some other way to identify each one of the hounds. Maybe name tags?

The hound, knowing that I was watching him, lifted his head, and suddenly, his entire line was standing on what looked to be a plateau high above the rest of us. "And they aren’t afraid to show off."

The fourteen hounds remaining in the line titled their heads back and let out a bone curdling bark as they all stared at Gerald.

Seeing the two men standing beside me started to shake, I couldn’t help but sigh. "There is no such thing as fear when it comes to progress," I advised them. "I mean, you yourselves said that the hounds wouldn’t hurt anyone. If you want to see the end of your experiments, then you need to put on your big boy underwear and watch."

Hearing the sound of water hitting the floor, I tilted my head to the side. "Well, someone will have to change his big boy underwear before you can watch, but I’m sure you have another pair somewhere."

Tank let out a snicker even as he stepped back away from the mess left by Gerald’s helper.

"Are you recording this?" I continued. "I haven’t seen you writing down anything."

"You said that you thought you knew what God’s greatest regret was," muttered Gerald, visibly pulling himself together. "What is it?"

"Free will," I smiled at him even as I went back to paying attention to my hounds and lollypop. "After all, everything was perfect in Eden until it wasn’t. You might have created the hounds, you might have come up with a detailed plan on what the future looked like, but you miscalculated a few things."

"Like what?" asked the man as he finally looked back down at his clipboard and started writing. It was slow at first as if he had forgotten exactly how to do it, but he quickly sped up after a few minutes.

"Me. You didn’t take me into account."

A giant chasm opened up right where Ronan was about to step. Thanks to demon like reflexes, he quickly jumped over the crack that was widening more and more with every passing second.

"Whys do I be thinkin’ dat our girl is playin’?" he asked, crouching in front of the massive crevice between him and the rest of the men on the outer side.

Screams started ringing out just as the sun chose that moment to sink and the sound of growls could be heard coming out of the darkness.
