Chapter 321: Wish Granted

I would be the first to admit that I didn’t have all the Southern flair for hosting that I probably should have. I mean, any time Père had people over, it was to discuss taking over the country or how it had fallen apart.

Plus, it wasn’t like his guests were really the tea and cookie type people.

But I think Adam was even more socially inept than I was.

"In there," he growled, waiting for Tank to get into the cage first. The gun was still firmly fixed to my head, and yet not a single person or guard blinked twice at me being dragged down here. This was definitely not one of those places that believed in the ’see something, say something’ mantra.

Tank looked at me for a second before letting out a low whine. "I told you," I sighed, closing my eyes even as I shook my head. "He won’t go anyplace without me. You want him in the cage; you need to put me in there, too."

Was this the smartest thing I had ever said to someone who wanted me in a cage? No. Typically, it was one of those cases where I just woke up in one and went with the flow.

Unfortunately for me, my brain seemed to be glitching between reality and a dream because the cage in front of me was looking awfully similar to the dream I had a few nights ago.

Oh well, no rest for the wicked.

I willingly came here, and I would put on my big girl panties and get done what I needed to get done. Preferably before I went completely insane.

At least this time, unlike my dream, I wasn’t alone.

Adam pushed me forward, letting go of me just in time for me to bang my waist against the top of the cage. "Ouch," I grunted, glaring at the man. I wanted to make a snide comment about if this was how he treated Eve, but I honestly wanted to see how long it would take him to figure out just who I was.

"In the cage, now," grunted Adam, his face completely devoid of emotion. If I didn’t know better, I might have thought that he was a sociopath with how well he could shut down his emotions.

But...

Since I did know better, I could easily see that he was a psychopath. No matter how much mommy and daddy loved him, he would still be like this.

"Getting in," I murmured, going down on my hands and knees. Was I showing him my ass? Probably, but seeing as I was getting into a cage, I didn’t have to worry about him reacting to it.

That was one of those things that people who had never been in cages couldn’t understand. Yes, you might be locked away and at someone’s ’mercy’, but no one could touch you when you were inside the cage either.

Especially when it was a small cage like this one was.

Going to the far end, I didn’t even have to call out to Tank before he was inside with me.

Placing my hand against his back, I couldn’t help but laugh when he sat down directly on my lap, growling at Adam even as he squished me.

"I’m safe, baby," I purred, stroking him over and over again to make him stop vibrating. "Nothing is hurting me while you are with me."

Adam let out a bark of laughter even as he shut the door to the cage and locked it tight. "I’ll let you keep on thinking that tonight. But tomorrow is going to be a big day for all of us. Make sure that you can get a good sleep. You’ll need it."

With those parting words, I listened to Adam leaving the room and a heavy metal door locking behind him.

"Well, well, well," purred a voice in another cage. "What do we have here?"

"A genie in a cage," I laughed, my voice echoing around the room. I had seen cage after cage lining both sides of the room when I first came in, but the gun kept me from looking around too much.

"Oh," growled another voice. "Does that mean if I rub you just right, you’ll grant all my wishes?"

"No," I chuckled, wrapping my arms around Tank the best I could. "My puppy would get cranky, and then everyone will die. How about instead of rubbing me, you just ask? Anything you want... I can give it to you."

"Ha!" barked a light female voice. Even as she tried her hardest to be harsh, her voice had an almost musical quality to it. "If that was the case, then why are you here?"

"Why not?" I asked, blinking my eyes as I turned my head to look at the cages beside me. I still couldn’t see anyone inside of them, but that didn’t mean they weren’t there. "I was bored, and this seemed like a fun way to pass the time. Besides, what better place to grant wishes than this?"

"Let’s see what you can do," muttered a fourth voice. I couldn’t tell if they were male or female, but the sound coming from them was like nails on a chalkboard to my ears. "I want lobster. Two of them. With a lemon-butter sauce and bread on the side. Give me the whole baguette, not just a single slice. And no veggies. I don’t want no fucking salad."

"That’s all?" I asked. "What did you want to drink? Or were you planning on drinking the lemon-butter sauce?" Hey, who was I to judge?

The voice chuckled, causing goosebumps to come out and play on my arms and the back of my neck. "Fine. If you are going to be like that, I’ll take a 1945 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti."

I really had no idea what he was talking about, but that didn’t matter. I didn’t have to know something in order for someone to wish it into existence. It was enough that he knew it.

"Anything for dessert?" I asked, closing my eyes as I rested my head against Tank’s back. He was so warm and cozy that I couldn’t help but fall asleep on him.

"Surprise me," came the voice.

"Wish granted," I agreed just as gasps of surprise came from around us.
