Chapter 307: Hers For The Taking
Chapter 307: Hers For The Taking
Alicia stared out the window of her condo, a feeling of dread settling deep in her stomach. She had no idea what was going on, and it was stressing her out.
While the timeline for some events at the beginning was in line with her last life, there were even more things that she hadn’t seen coming.
Like the first snowstorm. Like meeting Hattie. Like Adam and Eve and the evolution of the zombies and almost everything else that was floating around like dust on the wind.
Taking in a deep breath, she tried to calm herself down. She had been reborn; she needed to remember that. And because she was the only one in this world who had been granted that privilege, the world was hers for the taking.
It didn’t matter who blocked her path; it didn’t matter what the world threw at her; she would overcome it. She knew how this ended. Réne was sitting at the top of Country M with everyone at his feet. He was already well on his way there, thanks to the New Dawn, and everyone knew that you couldn’t mess with destiny.
Réne was destined for this role, and as his wife, she just had to follow along for the ride.
"It’s okay," murmured Réne as he approached his wife from behind. Ever so slowly, he rubbed his hands up and down her arms. Her right arm was still dead to the touch and couldn’t be moved easily, but they had managed to hide her condition from everyone else up to this point.
"Is it?" replied Alicia, tilting her head to the side. "I’m not so sure about that."
"Okay," agreed Réne quickly, wanting to do whatever he needed to in order to make her happy again. "Then what can I do to help?"
"It’s not that simple," sneered Alicia before she closed her eyes and tried to reign herself in. "Don’t mind me. I’m just off. Probably my period is coming or something like that."
Réne hummed but was smart enough not to say anything more. Offering his silent support, the couple stared out at the prosperous compound they had created.
However, the sick feeling in Alicia’s stomach refused to go away. Something big was going to happen soon; she just had no idea what it could possibly be.

"If I don’t know what tiers are, how can I possibly tell you what mine is?" sighed Luca as he rubbed his forehead.
"What do you mean, you don’t know what tiers are? Have you been living under a rock for the past three years?!? Everyone knows what tiers are," sneered the guard, his eyes flashing in irritation as he clutched the clipboard in his hand.
If he didn’t know that this man had a least two powers inside of him, then he would have kicked him out of line already.
But the Sanctuary needed strong people, and Tarek wasn’t about to let one of the other weaker bases take a power user.
"Fine," grunted Tarek. "The first tier is the highest. It means that you are the strongest of your power, and you can take out anyone. The second tier is lower than that, third tier is even lower until you get to the tenth tier. Any questions?"
"Dat donna make sense," grunted Dimitri, his brows furrowing as he started at Tarek. "Don’t dat mean we can just say anythin’ and ’ave it be real?"
"No," sneered Tarek. There were four men standing in front of him, and they were driving him crazy with their questions. "People like me are able to tell not only your power but also your rank."
"Den what was de point in asking?" yawned Ronan as he rolled his eyes. "Yous tell us, and dat is your answer."
Tarek snapped his mouth shut so hard that he felt his teeth cracking. "That isn’t the point of the exercise. The point is to be able to tell your character before you even enter the Sanctuary. We don’t want people who are willing to lie."
"Seems dumb," grunted Dimitri with a shrug of his shoulders.
Beau hummed and nodded his head. It really did seem pointless. If they already had all the answers, then why ask them for information they didn’t have?
"Water and toxic," grunted the guard, more than done with the whole conversation. He was pointing at Ronan with narrowed eyes as he continued. "Tier One."
"Ooh," smirked Ronan, holding back another yawn. "Lucky me."
"Earth and space," continued the guard, pointing at Beau. "Tier One."
"Look at you, already having the answers to your own questions," chuckled Beau as he leaned on Luca’s shoulder.
"Air and space," snarled out Tarek as he pictured popping Luca’s head off. How could there be so many strong people in a single group? Fucking hell. If Jonas hadn’t told him they were desperate for security, then he would have already kicked them out on principle.
They were strong enough that they didn’t need the base! Go back to where they came from and annoy someone else.
"You didn’t mention my tier," smiled Luca, his voice soft and gentle.
"First tier."
"Ah," nodded Luca. "That’s good. If I wasn’t in the top tier, I was scared that I was going to have to murder my competition. It’s nice to know I won’t be bathing in blood tonight."
Beau snorted as he poked Luca’s cheek. "You just couldn’t stand the idea of the rest of us being stronger than you."
"It will be a cold day in hell before you are stronger than me," snapped back Luca as he swatted Beau’s hand away from his face.
"I’m sure that is just a wish away," grunted Ronan as he rolled his head from side to side. "Can we go inside now?"
Salvatore and Désiré had already been inside for an hour, and after that earthquake, the rest of the Sins were in a hurry to meet up with them.
"Did you just..." started Tarek before shaking his head. Naw, there was no way one of them would make that kind of a threat in front of an armed guard.
"Go inside," grunted Tarek, already stepping aside to let the four men in. "You need to be signed off on all three checkpoints in order to be granted housing."
Beau waved at the guard as he and the rest of his brothers strolled into the Sanctuary.
