Chapter 240: Only Way To Save Them
The second the two human soldiers disappeared, I sat back down on my swing and took a sip of my sweet tea. It was no longer as cold as I liked it to be, so with a sigh, I put it back down on the table.
Everything seemed to be swirling around me, and I couldn’t figure out why. My head was like a bubble that was about to burst and it felt like if I made a single wrong move, I was going fly apart, never to be put together again.
"That seems to be a bit dramatic, little one," purred a new voice from right in front of me. Lifting my head, I stared at Luci.
"I don’t think so," I replied, my eyes never leaving hers. I didn’t know what was going on, but I knew a snake about to strike when I saw one. There was no way I was going to give her a chance to take me out. "After all, if anyone is a drama queen, it would have to be you, Luci," I chuckled.
The small statured woman with eyes the same color as mine stared back at me, the secretive smile on her lips making me want to punch her face in.
"I mean, sending me a vision of you getting your heart ripped out was a thing of beauty," I continued. Relaxing into my swing, I gently pushed myself back and forth. "In fact, it was such a thing of beauty that for a moment; I wanted to kill all seven of the Sins and put my soul back together as a way to exact revenge on them for you. But that isn’t the case, now is it?"
Luci hummed, the smile on her face becoming even brighter as the madness in her eyes finally shone through her mask. "I mean, it was worth a try."
"It was," I agree. "It really was. But then Pride gave me his shard, and Wrath explained everything, and I came to a startling conclusion. Do you want to hear it... Luci?"
"And just what conclusion have you come to, my little replacement? I am dying to know what is going on in your brain. Should I open up your skull and see?" purred Luci as she took a step forward. However, the second she moved closer, she was forced to stop suddenly.
"And that, right there, cements what I already know," I chuckled. Picking up the sweet tea that the house just replaced for me, I took a sip, letting the sugar hit me just right. "You and I are not the same. If we were one... in any way, shape, or form, the house wouldn’t have been able to stop you from getting to me. After all, the house only obeys my commands."
"That means nothing," sneered Luci, looking around at the house as if realizing that it wasn’t just a house. "Maybe I was holding myself back from ripping out your soul and putting it back into my body where it belongs."
Nodding my head, the tips of my toes pushed back, and I started swinging again. "Go ahead," I shrugged. "Give it a try."
"No matter how I feel about having a replacement, I would never hurt you," sighed Luci. Her shoulders hunched forward as she tried to make herself smaller, more like a victim. "It’s just hard to see that you have everything that should have been mine."
Humming to myself, I couldn’t hold back my smirk. "You keep calling me your replacement, but you see... I know the truth. I am Lucifer, the High Queen of Hell. I am Satan, the Father of Lies, and I am the Devil, destroyer of worlds. But do you know who I am not?"
I dropped my voice down low as I leaned forward, the smile on my face only getting bigger. "I am not you, Lilith... and you are not me."
Time seemed to freeze as the version of my face seemed to melt away before being reformed just as before. "I guess when you have been wearing a mask for 10,000 years, it’s a bit hard to let it go," I purred as Lilith’s eyes became wide, and she stumbled back in fear.
"Yeah, I know you can’t sit on my throne... and how long has it been since I was banished to hell? 10,953 years, ten months, 30 some-odd days, and change? Just how would you know that number unless you have been trying to sit on MY throne every day for just short of 11,000 years?"
"You know nothing," hissed Lilith as she straightened her back. While her hair was still blond, and her skin and face were still perfect, there was no mistaking her for me anymore. Thank... well... me. "You were never worthy of sitting on that throne."
"And yet, like Thor’s Hammer, it will only come to me. Should I call it? Now that you have successfully destroyed Hell and everyone in it, should I still see if my throne is still around?"
Lilith snarled at me, the nails on her hands becoming claw like as she envisioned multiple ways of killing me. "Want to know something funny?" I asked, cocking my head to the side. "I mean, I find it funny. But you and the other demons might not..."
"You are nothing more than a human kid, playing at something you know nothing about. Yes, you might have figured out part of the truth, but you don’t know everything," growled Lilith as her eyes started to flash.
"You’re right, I don’t," I fully admitted. Things were coming to me in little snippets of information. Like a five-second movie clip when I wasn’t really paying attention. But I was smart enough to be able to put two and two together. "But do you know why demons never left Hell? Or were never supposed to leave Hell for any length of time?"
"Because you are a controlling bitch who made it her life goal to make everyone miserable?" sneered Lilith as she looked down at me. "I mean, why surround yourself with so many people who hated you and wanted you dead?"
"Because that was the only way to save them," I answered with a smile.
