Chapter 216: Time And Space

Resting my cheek against Teddy’s head, I watched Tank walking around my room, making sure that everything was safe.

"I think I am broken," I murmured softly from where he had set me on the bed. My back was pressed against the fabric headboard, and I was surrounded by different colored pillows. From the corner of my eye, I could see dark purple, dark blue, dark red, plus the black ones that matched the duvet cover.

"Actually, there is no thinking about it... I am broken." I tasted the words as they formed in my mouth before I put them out there, but there was no lie in them. Père was dead; I killed him myself, but I also knew without a doubt that he was coming for me...

And for everything that I had.

"You aren’t broken, Sweet girl," murmured Tank as he locked the door and removed his shoes. Unbuttoning his shirt, he pulled the bottom out of his pants and stripped it off before throwing it on the floor.

"Then how else do you explain what just happened?" I demanded, waving widely toward the door. "Cause that’s not the actions of a normal person."

"First of all," purred Tank as he crawled into bed with me. Glancing at his chest and abs, I was happy to see that he was even more cut than the Judge. "Who is to say what normal is? You are you, and that is perfection as far as I am concerned."

Before I could say anything, he pulled back the covers and let me crawl under them. Taking off my clothes, I slid between the silk sheets completely naked. I wasn’t looking for anything to happen, but right now, my skin was feeling too weird for me to have anything against it.

Besides, with all my scars, even Tank would think twice.

"What’s second?" I asked, closing my eyes as I pulled Teddy even more into my arms. It had been so long since I had him out of my space that I forgot how good he was at chasing the nightmares away.

"The second thing is that you are shifting, and with that comes change."

"I don’t understand," I murmured, feeling stupid that I couldn’t even follow a simple conversation.

"You are going from surviving to living, and that is going to freak anyone out. Combined with decision fatigue, everything that just happened is completely normal."

"Decision fatigue?" Once again, I tested the words on my tongue before deciding that they, too, were the truth. "What’s that?"

"That means that you have been making too many decisions lately, and you just need a break," answered Tank as he slipped into the sheets behind me. He had removed his pants and was just wearing his briefs. Pulling me into his arms, we both let out a contented sigh.

"So I didn’t do wrong making Daddy decide everything?"

"Nothing wrong at all. In fact, I am sure that if you ever don’t want to make a decision, Chang Xuefeng would be more than happy to help you," chuckled Tank. "I think he likes being in charge."

I giggled at that statement. It was true. But still, it was nice to know that not everything was dependent on me. That I had people around me that I could trust to step in when I just couldn’t deal.

"Père is coming for me," I announced after a moment of silence. "I can feel him even now."

"Good," nodded Tank as he kissed the back of my hair. "Let him come. He isn’t dealing with a little girl anymore. He is dealing with people who won’t take that shit, and most of the time, the bully will turn around with his tail between his legs rather than take the chance fighting someone stronger."

"I’m scared," I shrugged. I might be the reincarnation of the Devil, but that man had been my boogeyman for as long as I can remember.

"I know, Baby," replied Tank as he tightened his grip. "But just know that he is going to have to go through Hell itself before he can even think about touching you again."

Nodding my head, I fell asleep in the arms of a man I knew would protect me to his last breath.

----

The soft sound of the door opening had Tank’s eyes opening before whoever was at the door could step foot in the room.

"Dinner’s ready," announced Beau as he walked softly over to the bed. His footsteps were practically non-existent as he reached out to touch Hattie’s head. "She needs to eat something."

"She needs to sleep more," whispered Tank, making sure to keep his voice low. However, it wasn’t low enough because Hattie turned over, bear and all, and snuggled even deeper against his chest like she was trying to hide from the world.

Beau nodded his head and straightened up. There was more than enough food, Hattie could have a good breakfast tomorrow, and he would be sure to plan the menu.

"You know they consider you the weakest link, right?" murmured Tank, his brows furrowing in concern.

"I know," nodded Beau with a bright smile on his face. "Hattie does innocent, I do playful. They think they can get information from me, but what they don’t know is that they will only get enough to keep them going but not enough to do anything stupid."

Tank let out a soft grunt. He really was impressed. Even he was sure that Beau was a brainless idiot out there.

"If they so much as twitch, kill them," he shrugged. Dante might think that they needed help, but with a house that thinks for itself, what use did they have for others.

"I won’t need to," chuckled Beau, his voice turning dark as he continued. "Did you know that as soon as Hattie left, so did the front door? Only fifteen people out of twenty-three made it into the house before it happened. Tink is gonna be eatin’ well tonight, dat’s for sure."

Tank blinked for a second before nodding his head. That was right; the house could look after its mistress just as well as they could. But still, taking out the front door?

As if he could read his mind, Beau shrugged his shoulders. "For us, we just have to think about leaving, and any of the doors inside will take us out. I’ve never seen anything like it. Even the windows... show different counties and different backgrounds that are definitely not from around here. Whatever Hattie managed to create, it seems to be in its own time and space."
