Chapter 208: In Her Own Backyard
"Eighteen?" sneered Dante. "Isn’t she only five? That is thirteen years from now. How are we going to have the supplies to take care of all of you? I didn’t see any sign of Bishop bringing in supplies while we were gone. In fact, in only a few months, Bishop managed to have three years’ worth of supplies walk out this door. I can’t afford to keep you here anymore."
"Please!" the woman cried out again; however, this time, she was loud enough to wake me up. "Please let me stay."
"Okay," I yawned as Tank slowly set me back on my feet. "You can stay," I continued with a smile as I walked up to the woman I had seen fucking Bishop on Dante’s couch. Yeah, I was really going to have to get rid of that thing as fast as possible.
Coming to a stop right in front of the happy family of three, I looked up at the woman and Bishop. I used to hate height differences where everyone was looking down at me, and I was stuck hurting my neck in order to look up, but today taught me a very important lesson.
Height didn’t equal dominance; power did. And I had enough power to knock these two to their knees...
"Thank you," replied the woman, nodding her head even as she smiled with just her mouth. Pushing her daughter forward a bit, she leaned forward and continued to stare at me even as she spoke. "Thank the nice little girl for letting you stay in your own bed tonight."
The smooth way she had said those words told me everything that I needed to know about the woman, and I hoped that she and Bishop had a long, happy life together. After all, a bitch deserved a bastard... right?
"Oh, no," I replied with a shake of my head. "I’m not the one who decides whether you stay or go... that’s Tink’s job."
There was a strangled sound coming from behind me, and I looked over my shoulder just in time to see my four men standing side by side, trying to choke back their laughter. Beau’s forearm was resting on Dante’s shoulder as Gluttony leaned on Pride, but even Tank and Chang Xuefeng seemed to fit in perfectly with the brothers.
"Who is Tink?" demanded Bishop, his face shifting in anger as he looked down at me. Long gone was the man who had made me dinner and watched movies with me. But wasn’t that just like life? One minute, you are friends, and then the next, you are being eaten by a gator.
I wondered if angels tasted like chicken? After all, they both have white wings and like to squawk about everything.
"Not so much as who as a what," chuckled Chang Xuefeng as he waved his hand. "He also isn’t known for really liking anyone but Hattie."
The woman’s face turned white as she looked over at Bishop, expecting him to protect her. "It’s fine," replied the angel, his eyes never leaving mine. "Who or what doesn’t matter. No one is getting through me to get to you and Libby. I’d die before that happens."
"Oh," I interjected, my eyes wide as I nodded my head. "That was the plan. Tink!" I called out, "Let me know if you like these three enough to let them inside."
Honestly, I had no idea where Tink was even hiding. Still, the 20-foot gator seemed to have appeared out of nowhere as he meandered toward us, his tail slashing back and forth with every step he took.
"Isn’t he adorable?" I asked, cocking my head to the side. "I want to think that I saved him, but I am pretty sure that he could have saved himself from that mean scientist."
"That—" started the woman as she pulled her daughter away from me. "That is an alligator."
"Technically," I agreed with a nod of my head. "But he is so much smarter than a normal gator. I think he has some mutated zombies in him, as well as some of the stupid ones. Then again, he might have just eaten them... I’m not too sure how these things work."
By the time I had finished speaking, Tink was standing beside me calmly as he butted my leg with his snout. Crouching down, completely forgetting that I was no longer wearing underwear, I scratched the tip of his nose. "Such a good boy, aren’t you, Tink?" I purred.
Tink raised his snot just enough for me to be able to kiss the tip of his nose. "So, you tell me. Do we keep them, or do you get a snack for being the bestest boy who was ever best?"
"This is cold blooded murder," snarled the woman, dropping her angelic act the moment Tink turned his attention back to her. "You can’t let that thing kill us! We have a child for fucks sake!"
"No," I sighed as I came to my feet. "This isn’t murder; it’s feeding my emotional support gator."
Whatever Bishop and his woman saw on my face, it was clearly enough to scare them because even Bishop stepped back, taking the child with them. "I won’t forget this," he said, his eyes flashing with flames as he stared me down. "I will kill you, even if it is the last thing I do."
"You are more than welcome to try," I shrugged. "Hell, you can even make it a wish if you want. But you and I both know that you are not in any position to threaten me. Or, have you changed your mind about that whole war thing?"
Bishop didn’t bother to reply, only continued to back out of the gate without taking his attention away from Tink. "I will remember this."
"So you have said," I answered with a nod. "But maybe, just maybe, you want to remember a few things, too. Like exactly who I am and what I will do to keep what is mine. Not many people are willing to go against the Devil in her own backyard. Are you one of the stupid ones to try?"
