Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse
Chapter 191: The Shit Disturber

Chapter 191: The Shit Disturber

"You’re joking, right?" sputtered Eve as Tank carried me over to the chair he was sitting on and arranged me in his lap. "You are nothing more than a child."

"Whatever you need to believe in order to sleep at night," I replied with a wave of my lollypop. Then, an idea hit me. "I guess we can take whatever you want to Alicia and René, but with the state of everything these days, I can’t guarantee that it will actually get to them. You know how it is: zombies and killer clowns. Not to mention the survivors who attack anyone at the drop of the hat. Really, anything can happen."

Adam’s face was locked in a disapproving frown, but the joke was on him; that just made me want to press his buttons all that much more. "What do you say, Daddy?" I asked Chang Xuefeng while keeping my eyes on Adam. "Are we going to take the chance with their stuff? With the understanding that it might not even get where they wanted it to go."

"Whatever you want, Sweetness," sighed Chang Xuefeng as he dropped a kiss on my forehead before walking over to the table with all the snacks on it. "But lollypops aren’t an actual food group. Do you have anything else to eat that contains a protein and a vegetable?"

Letting out a long sigh, I conjured exactly what he was looking for. "What is this? It looks like a stew?"

"Gumbo," I replied as he brought the bowl over. "And it is yummy."

Holding out his hand for my lollypop, he replaced it with a fork while giving Tank the bowl to hold for me. "If it’s yummy, then make sure you finish off the whole bowl. You’ve lost weight. I’m not happy."

"Yes, Daddy," I sighed, digging into the bowl. Ah, it was so warm and comforting... I always forgot how much I liked some stuff until I’ve had it again. And then I wondered why I wasn’t eating more of it more often.

"So, you are her father," murmured Eve in a sentence that was neither a question nor a statement.

"What part of me looks like her father?" sneered Chang Xuefeng. "She has made it perfectly clear. So, are we transporting whatever needs to be transported?"

Finally thinking it through, Chang Xuefeng turned to Dante. "Why does she know Alicia and René to the point where she said no at the beginning?"

"Alicia tried to have her killed," replied Pride. "That’s why she is a bit touchy on the subject. That and the fact that René used to be a good friend of ours. Almost like a brother, if you think about it."

Chang Xuefeng could read between the lines enough to know that René was supposed to be one of the meat sacks for the Sins, but the fact that Alicia tried to have his Hattie killed was unacceptable.

"I’ll deal with her," stated Chang Xuefeng.

"Leave her alone," sighed Hattie, looking up from her bowl of food. There was a single grain of rice stuck to her cheek, and Chand Xuefeng leaned down and swiped it off her face. "You can’t waste food," he admonished before eating the piece of rice.

From the corner of my eye, I saw Eve shifting as if she wanted to say something, but the pounding on our door cut her off from whatever groundbreaking observation I was sure was going to come out of her mouth.

"Sergeant!" called out a voice as they tried to break into my bedroom. "Sergeant! It’s important!"

Letting out an angry huff, Adam spun around and almost ripped the door off its hinges.

That man clearly had anger issues that he needed to work through.

"What!?" he demanded, staring down at the man in the lab coat. "I am busy."

"He did it!" sputtered the man, his eyes wide with something that looked like shock. Slipping my food back into my space, I snatched my lollypop out of Chang Xuefeng’s hand and jumped off Tank’s lap.

My chaos radar was telling me that something fun was going to happen, and I needed to be a part of it. "Who did what?" I asked, cocking my head to the side.

"Doctor Comeau has done it!" repeated the man, so happy he was practically vibrating. "The anti—"

"That’s enough," roared Adam, effectively shutting the other man up. "You do know what top secret means, right?"

"Of course, Sir," sputtered the man. "I’m just..."

"Of course you are just excited," I exclaimed, grabbing onto the man’s arm and pushing him out the door. "How could you not be? Now, why don’t you go show us just what you are talking about? That way, we can all celebrate this moment with you!"

Without giving Adam a chance to react, the guys and I were already following the man in a lab coat down the stairs at the end of the hall.

"Oh!" I called out, looking over my shoulder at where Adam and Eve stood in my doorway. "Be a dear and close the door behind you! Thanks!"

----

The lab in the basement of the CDC wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. All the secured doors still worked, and we needed the helpful idiot’s ID to be able to access the doors. With each hissing door that opened, we went even deeper into the belly of the beast.

Adam and Eve followed quickly after us, Adam’s glare burning two holes in between my shoulder blades, but I ignored him, more interested in the guy in front of me. I will fully admit that I wanted to try to see just how much I could ’push’ him, and the moment I touched him, I realized that his mind was a completely open book to me.

As long as I held onto him, I would be able to move him like a puppet at the mercy of my whims. Something inside of me whispered that I could do this without touching them once I got a handle on it, but for right now, I was more interested in being a little shit disturber.

Whatever this antidote was that Adam didn’t want me to know about made me want to get my hands on it even more.

"Doctor Comeau," called out the man beside me. "The Sergeant is here to see the results!"
