Chapter 187: That Scares Me

A shiver went down my back maybe 30 minutes after we had left the Legislature Compound. It started off slow and easy to ignore before it turned into a full-on siren screaming at me. Biting my tongue, I refused to cry out.

This was the offset to the mosquitoes, and as much as I didn’t like the idea of all these demons on Earth... at least that gave me the opportunity to kill those who had taken out my other half.

And those who watched...

And those who were in the near vicinity...

And those who I just didn’t like.

"They’re coming," I hummed, a contented smile on my face. I wondered if a demon would try to possess me. After all, as far as I knew, I was human. I only had a fraction of the Devil’s powers inside of me, so there was potential that a demon or two might try their luck.

Looking up at the sky, I saw four bright red slashes in the darkness, like an actual demon was ripping through the fabric of the Earth. The slashes began small until they were covering everything that I could see.

As soon as they were the right sizes, teeny tiny red speckles started to float down. They were so small that they looked like nothing more than dots against the black backdrop. However, if I looked closer, I could see an entire rainbow of falling stars emerging from the slashes and dropping to the earth.

Holding up my hand, I couldn’t help but smile when one of the green speckles landed on my palm. It almost looked like one of those dandelion seeds with a small head and an almost feather-like body.

Taking in a deep breath, I gently blew a gust of breath between my pursed lips as if I were making a wish. However, instead of wind coming from me, a tiny spark of flames encompassed the demon seed.

The seed let out a high-pitched scream as it combusted, turning to nothing more than ashes on the wind.

"That’s new," I chuckled as another seed fell on me. This one was red, and I could feel the rage inside of it, just waiting to bury itself deep in my heart. Unfortunately for the demon, I was feeling a bit more vindictive than him, so another breath of flame from me quickly burned out his.

"I don’t feel anything," grunted Tank as he, too, held out a hand. More and more demon seeds fell on his palm, and instead of blowing on them, he simply crushed them. The little screams coming from the demons as they were squished into nothingness were enough to make me smile.

"They are kind of cute when they are screaming for mercy," I chuckled, looking over at Chang Xuefeng. He, I was worried about. "You still good, Daddy? No need to..." I went up on my tiptoes to look at the color of the seeds in his hand. "Fuck me senseless?"

The gold seeds seemed to glow brightly for a second before they became so black it was clear that there was no more life in them.

"It’s not from the seeds," replied Chang Xuefeng as he looked down at me from the corner of his eyes. "That one is a constant since you barged into my life and sent it spinning."

"But I sent it spinning in the best way possible... right?" I smirked. Gripping his forearm, I, once again, went up on my toes and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "Don’t let anything hurt you, okay?" I murmured softly. "I can’t stand the idea of a demon even tainting you, and I want to burn every last seed at the very idea that they could take you away from me."

"Neither God nor the Devil could take me away from you," assured Chang Xuefeng as he gave me a kiss on my forehead. For a second, there was a pain in my heart like I was betraying him, but like everything else tonight, I pushed it aside.

Ever since I met Luci, my heart has been hurting more and more... and everything just seemed to overwhelm me. Was this how she felt? Was this heart hers?

If that was the case, then this sucked, cause I don’t think that I could have lived with this random pain for nearly as many years as she did. For a woman with the reputation that she did, she really took everything to... well... heart.

"I’ll hold you to that," I replied in all seriousness. Letting go of Chang Xuefeng, I continued on the road in front of us, ignoring all the demon seeds that burned to death the second they touched me.

Hell didn’t deserve Luci, and that was fine. I would make a new Hell here... and I would be the Devil they deserved.

Feeling happier and lighter now that I finally figured out my place in the world, I started to skip forward. The world was an awful big place... why couldn’t I carve out my own place in it?

----

René walked up behind the woman in front of him and wrapped his arms around her slight figure. She was staring out of the window, watching the colorful puffs falling out of the sky as she gripped her right arm.

It still wasn’t working well, even after all these months. They had done everything they could have, but the best they could figure out was that there was something wrong with the nerves and muscles, which was why it just hung there.

"I didn’t see this coming," she sighed, resting her head on his chest. "How couldn’t I see this coming?"

"If you didn’t see it coming, then it couldn’t be a bad thing. You have predicted almost every bad thing to have happened to us. Cut yourself some slack," murmured Max from where he stood by the door, guarding their backs.

"I still think I should know what is going to happen next, but it is like everything has changed," replied Alicia softly as she looked up at René. "I don’t know what is going to happen next, and that scares me."
