Chapter 126: My Landmine
Chapter 126: My Landmine
"I need an entrance song," I determined as we walked through the fighter section of Camp Hell. Grown-ass men flattened themselves against the back of their cages, trying to get that much further away from me.
Honestly, it was giving me a complex.
I couldn’t help the slight smirk that played over my face at the looks of fear in their faces. Really. I was half their size and looked like a fucking kid...and yet they were pissing their pants.
"An entrance song?" muttered Chang Xuefeng as he kept his eyes forward. "I don’t understand."
"All the fighters my step stains used to watch on TV had entrance songs when they went to the ring or the octagon. I should have a song like that."
"Has anyone ever told you that your reactions to things aren’t normal?" chuckled Chang Xuefeng under his breath. "You are going into a life or death match; most people would be terrified."
"Terrified?" I repeated, cocking my head to the side as I stared at the Reaver guard guarding the gate between the fighter arena and the pits. "I used to be terrified when I was younger. Then I learned that being scared did nothing but make you tired. Nothing changed just because I was terrified. My Père still beat me, still... Being scared never changed anything."
The guard, scared to turn his back to me in order to make his job easier, took a few minutes to raise the gate, his hands trembling.
"I once heard an interesting question on TV," I continued, turning away from the guard. His terror, while fun at first, was now boring me. "Is it better to be loved or feared?"
"What do you think?" asked Chang Xuefeng after we walked through the gate. Finding the tunnel entrance, he continued to lead me forward.
"I—" I started before stopping myself. "I used to think that it would be better to be feared because then people wouldn’t fuck with you."
"Makes sense," grunted Chang Xuefeng as the roaring from the crowd started to get louder. We cut through the little cafeteria before walking up to the bars, keeping me out of the pit.
"But right now?" I asked as my name was called out. Chang Xuefeng looked at me, confused, as he took off my leash.
"But right now?" he prompted as the gates started to lift, revealing an empty pit area covered in blood.
"But right now, I would give anything to be loved." Walking toward the center, I didn’t listen to however Chang Xuefeng would answer.
Even those who I thought loved me tended to disappear. Look at the Sins, they hadn’t spoken to me much since I arrived here, but I know they loved me enough to try and save me.
But walking through the fighters’ area with everyone absolutely terrified? I thought I would love that feeling of being the one in power, of being the one in control. However, all I felt was... bored.
Their terror was boring. I really don’t know how Père suffered through my terror for so many years without wanting to hit me upside the head for that, too.
"And her opponent—The Crusher! With 23 wins and no losses, can he keep up his streak against the Harbinger with only two wins?"
I scoffed at the announcer’s statement. Not having any losses wasn’t that much of a feat, considering a loss meant death. It’s the same as saying that Buddy ate 23 cookies but didn’t touch the broccoli. Like, duh.
Realizing that my cranky mood wasn’t going to be helping anyone tonight, I tried to concentrate on the wishes being thrown out. The ones coming from those who bet against me wouldn’t be granted, but there were some interesting ones.
’I wish I had more guns back home. I wonder how I could get more guns right now.’ Deal accepted. He would have all the guns he wanted in exchange for his soul. Too bad the idiot wasn’t smart enough to ask for bullets to go with those guns.
’That fucker killed my brother,’ hissed a voice cutting through the wishes of everyone around him. ’I wish that Harbinger would punch him in the throat and then kick him in the balls before sticking her two fingers in his eyes. Maybe she could even rip his eyes out and have one on each finger.’ It took me a couple of seconds to process his request, but both me and my inner voice grunted with approval.
Deal accepted.
The horn blew, and the fight had started. Letting my inner voice determine which wishes to grant and which to disregard, I simply stood still, waiting for The Crusher to make the first move.
Nobody can say that I didn’t give him a fighting chance.
"Has anyone told you that you look ridiculous?" he sneered at me as he approached. Once again, I had to stop staring at his lips, which weren’t moving in time with the words I heard. "You are fucked in the head, aren’t you? Or maybe you like looking like that because you want to scream Daddy when you were being fucked from behind."
You know what? I tried; I really did. I was going to take Chang Xuefeng’s suggestion and play with my food before I killed him, but apparently, he just triggered me—or did a cannonball on my landmine, I wasn’t quite sure.
Either way, he was going to die a painful death.
"Do you have any last wishes?" I asked, cocking my head to the side.
"Shouldn’t I be asking you that? Or do you think we should change this card from a fight to a porn? I could stand for you to scream Daddy for me." The bastard was so assured of himself, so confident that he was going to win, that he just stood there with his arms crossed in front of him.
Shrugging my shoulders, I race forward, my feet going so fast that they were barely touching the sand. With a peaceful look on my face, I leaped up and punched The Crusher right in the throat, just like that person had wished for.
The Crusher stumbled back a few feet, his eyes going wide as he gripped his throat, coughing loudly as he tried to breathe or speak.
"I’m sorry, did that hurt?"
