Chapter 109: Make My Wish Come True

Chapter 109: Make My Wish Come True

The man in front of me was definitely a reaver.

If his height didn’t give it away, or the fact that he was built like a brick shithouse, the gaping holes in his face, arms, and chest definitely would have given it away.

Clearly, whoever had come up with this combination had something against me, and that hurt a little. I mean, I hadn’t even shown off some of my best qualities yet, and they were already trying to kill me.

Why couldn’t they just wait until I ruined their lives a bit before they brought out the big guns?

There was only one teeny tiny kink in my plan to make it out of this arena alive, and that was I had no idea how to kill a guy that had come back from the dead.

Did I take his head?

Given the hole in his forehead where a single white maggot was having the time of its life, I was going to assume that shooting him in the head wouldn’t work.

So, if I had to take his head... just how was I going to go about doing that? I mean, snapping a neck took a lot of effort, but not nearly as much as actually ripping the head off the monster’s shoulders.

Which meant that I was going to have to find a knife.

Or was I?

With a plan formulating in my head with every step I took toward the reaver in the center of the ring, I smiled brightly.

This might actually be fun.

-----

The second the horn blew, I raced up in front of the beast until I was only centimeters away from the behemoth. "Hi!" I smiled up at him, watching a look of confusion pass over his face. "I’m Luci; it’s a pleasure to kill you today."

Silent But Deadly looked at me for a second, his eyes blinking, but there was clearly no one home. After what seemed like forever, the reaver tipped back his head and let out a belly laugh that vibrated the ground beneath our feet.

"I like you, little one," announced Silent But Deadly with a nod of his head. "It’s too bad I’m going to have to kill you." The sigh that followed that announcement let me know that it was actually going to upset the creature.

Shrugging my shoulders, I clasped my hands behind my back, rocking forward and backward on my feet.

Once again, I was sure that it was cuter when I was smaller, but some habits where hard to break.

"If you could make any wish," I asked, the smile dropping from my face. "What would it be?"

The crowd around us started to get restless, their boos and jeers echoing around the two of us in the pit, but that didn’t bother either one of us.

We were too lost in our own world.

The reaver looked down at me for a second, and I could see him studying my face. "I wish I didn’t have to kill you," he replied so low that I almost couldn’t hear him. "I am tired."

"You know that if you don’t kill me..." I started, cocking my head to the side, all pretenses gone.

Silent But Deadly smiled sadly at me, his massive paw stroking the top of my head. "Did you know, before all this shit, before the vaccine and the apocalypse, that I was an accountant? I couldn’t even watch action movies since the very sight of blood made me sick."

Standing still, I let the reaver continue to pet me as he stared at my shoulder, unseeing. "And now... the things I have done..."

"I can’t promise you will go to heaven," I replied softly with a sight of my own. "But nothing that you have done since getting the vaccine has been your fault. Wherever you find yourself next, know that you deserve the best."

Silent But Deadly sniffed for a second as he nodded his head. "Thank you," he started, stroking my hair one last time. "And I am so sorry that you have ended up here."

"I’m not," I assured him as I pulled a long knife out of Teddy. The blade was the length of my forearm. Silent But Deadly looked down at my motions, his eyes widening at the sight. Stepping back, he stretched his neck from side to side.

"You will need to make this look good. If you don’t bleed enough today, then you will have to keep fighting until you do," the reaver advised me, getting ready to put on the last show of his life.

"I make everything look good," I assure him. Vanishing the knife back into Teddy until the final moment, I launched myself at Silent But Deadly, shocking everyone around us.

Out of pure reflexes, Silent caught me before I could latch myself onto his chest and threw me to the other side of the arena. My back crashed against the wall, sending little bits of concrete flying around me at the impact.

Sliding down until I was back on my feet, I stood up.

"Let’s do that again," I chuckled as I raced back toward Silent like a kid who had now found her new favorite thing. If I really examined my feelings, I knew that I didn’t want to kill Silent But Deadly, but that was just me being a bitch.

He wanted death, wished for it, actually. Who was I to tell him that I didn’t want to grant his wish because of personal feelings? The only thing I could hope for was that in his next life, he got the life he deserved.

Flinging myself back onto him, he missed catching me this time. I climbed up his chest until I was perched on his shoulder, my legs crossed in front of me like he was my new throne. "A girl could get used to this," I joked softly as I wiggled a bit.

Silent chuckled for a second, enjoying the ’fight’ as much as I was.

But we weren’t really fighting. We both knew how this was going to end up.

Grabbing me by my waist, Silent held me out in front of him as if I weighed next to nothing.

"Can you make my wish come true?" he asked, his eyes serious.
