Chapter 27: Bargain

As Nellyx left with the teacher, the three were left alone in the room, with Kieran seated on the bed.

His mind still reeling as he thought back on the decision he had just made.

Joining the Blue Fang faction? Was it really the best choice?

He didn’t know much about the factions; he never really made any thorough research on them... he never saw the need to.

At the end, they all offered good opportunities and good pay.

All he wanted was a comfortable life, where he could buy whatever he felt like, and as well do whatever he felt like doing.

Each offered such luxury, considering the rank of his skill.

But then, since he had yet to enter a contract with the faction, his decision could be changed, and with that in mind, there were still a few things he still had to know.

"Captain, do you think it’s the best decision to accept him with what he wishes to do? We haven’t even consulted HQ," Anita hugged the tablet tightly, worry etched on her face.

She threw a glance towards Kieran a few times, but quickly averted her gaze.

Despite his hungry build, he still looked handsome, and she couldn’t help but steal glances from time to time.

"They don’t need to know. The important thing is that he joins us... The power of an SSS-ranked talent can’t be weighed. He could turn the fate of our faction altogether, especially with the turn-ups of different realms recently," Jacob said, shifting his gaze to Kieran.

’I believe if he can become a captain in the faction, then they would be pleased if he decides to take on the Nelkon family—they’ve been a pain in the ass.’

"Now all you have to do is to sign a membership contract with our faction, and then we’ll take you to the Allied Faction Organization (AFO), where your data will be entered into the system." Jacob’s cheerful smile was a clear testament to how glad he was.

The moment he heard of the SSS-ranked talent holder, he left all the other students and made his way to the infirmary so he could get him before the other supporting factions of the academy arrived.

Thankfully, he was the first to make it.

And now he was so close to recruiting an SSS-ranked talent holder.

"Sign the contract..." Kieran muttered thoughtfully. He had yet to ask the most important question that he had in his mind all through the time.

"How much do you give for the beginner recruits?" Kieran asked with a poker face.

Since he wanted to live a comfortable life, of course money was an important factor that he had to take into consideration, and as such, he had to be greedy.

Jacob could see the greedy sheen in his eyes as he asked that question.

He thought he had everything in his palms already.

He had no idea that Kieran was after the money as well.

’And here I thought things would be easy if I accepted his request.’ Jacob smiled wryly.

Kieran quickly caught on to what his reaction meant.

"The pay is small?" he raised a brow.

"Well, the faction is still at its early age..." As he spoke, he noticed the shift in Kieran’s expression, "But we can make an exception for you," Jacob declared quickly.

Anita dragged his shirt slightly, and he coughed awkwardly.

She threw a meaningful glance at him, but he ignored her.

Kieran was a saving grace, not only to the faction but to him as well.

His captain position was being threatened by the others. If he could convince Kieran to join his squad, then he was certain that he no longer had any issues.

This was the turning point for him. He was willing to risk everything.

Kieran could see the desperation in his eyes.

’He’s even more desperate than Miss Nellyx.’ A faint and unnoticeable smile curled up as Kieran thought of the possibility.

’The minimum wage allowed by AFO is about ten Doperium.’

Doperium was a special stone that was discovered after the opening of the realms. They were generally accepted and then quickly made into a form of currency.

The item in question was like a mix of gold, silver, and diamond... Although small, the attractive look quickly made it sought out by many factions. This became worse after it was discovered that the Doperium in question could also act as a source of power,

and was now used to create the weapons that were used in modern day.

It was a currency that made hunters recognized among the masses, and only hunters could have hold of this currency. It was as well not very common among hunters, as most were used to craft powerful weapons which were used for fighting against different races they could encounter in the realms.

The conversion in USD was one Doperium to a thousand USD.

Kieran didn’t research much on the hunters, but what he did research on was the amount they were being paid, and if anything, that was the major reason that he was interested in the work.

He was very skeptical about joining just any faction.

With the payment from the faction, he would have to get an apartment to stay in, feeding, and as well weapons for the realms.

He could still remember how tough it was for him to defeat the trolls back in the C-rank realm.

With all that, just ten Doperium wouldn’t suffice for his needs, since the weapons were extremely expensive as well.

’I’m sorry, but if you want to have me in your faction, I’ll have to escape poverty first.’

Kieran momentarily bent his head.

Their desperation was just what he needed, and since he had it, he wouldn’t think twice about making his offer.

"Since you can make an exception for me, can I pick my price?" Kieran said, immediately cutting off Jacob before he could state the price he could offer.

Jacob appraised him. Kieran didn’t look like the type to be too demanding, at least from looks.

"Sure."

Same couldn’t be said for Anita, as she bit her lips tightly. She wanted to tell Jacob to stop making more promises, but she knew the position he was in. She couldn’t stop him... but she just had this feeling in her chest as Kieran was about to speak.

Kieran kept a straight face.

"I’ll take..."
